We will be going to one of the Braves Spring training games at Disney's Wide World of Sports. I read on the webiste that after each game, kids are allowed to go on the field and run the bases. Does anyone know if a child in a wheelchair can go run the bases, too?

TIA!

No one has posted about doing it, but the Wide World of Sports was built after 1991, so it would need to comply with the ADA. That means the area would need to be wheelchair accessible. I didn't find anything specific on the Disney website.
Their phone number (which may be a call center, rather than the actual place) is (407) 939-6244

Also, the infield dirt can be very soft (to prevent players from getting injured in their cleats) so a 'regular' wheelchair might just sink down into the ground. If you have a more 'offroad' wheelchair, it would be much easier to get around. We have one that is called a beachchair at the school I work at. It has big, inflatable tires, and can travel over most terrains, but the tires do tend to pop.

I had emailed Disney's Wide World of Sports about a week ago. I finally received a response from them today. The email said that we could be accommodated. The email just said to ask any usher for assistance! Yeah! :yay: My DD will be so excited! Thanks for the responses!

Glad to hear you got a positive response.
Please let us know how it went!

I just wanted to update everyone on our adventure to Disney's Wide World of Sports. We went Thursday night to watch the Braves play the Detroit Tigers. Hannah did get to "run" the bases after the game. The night we were there a CM named Carey, who also was in a wheelchair, came by to ask if Hannah and her sister wanted to run the bases after the game. Of course, they both said yes. (Her sister is not a wheelchair user but was allowed to go out on the field with Hannah and the other wheelchair users.) At the top of the 9th inning, the CM came over to where we were sitting and took the girls out one of the exits and took them down a long ramp that ended near right field. After all of the "abled bodied" kids ran the bases, the wheelchair users got their turn. The girls had a blast! It was well worth staying for the entire game. Also, Hannah was chosen as fan of the day by the security team. She received an "official" major league bat and baseball.

Wow and now Sue has something else to add to FAQs. Poor overworked Sue.
I am so glad everything came out alright and hope for pictures.:grouphug:
