I need some help! My DD is almost 9 and wears about a size 2. Her feet are wide and we are having a hard time finding sandals and dress shoes.

We used to get all her shoes at Stride Rite, but they have very few in wide for her size and the one's they do have look like shoes she wore when she was a toddler. She won't even try them on and I can't blame her.

She has a pair of crocs flip flops that fit, but nothing dressy/nice.

Any suggestions of stores or brands that carry wide shoes?

Well, it's been awhile but my daughter had short, wide feet when she was little. She's now 10 1/2 and has long skinny feet...I call them "step-sister feet" :rotfl: Anyway, I always had luck finding shoes at Payless.

I had a EEE width as a baby and toddler. I'm 47 and nothing has changed.;)
Buster Brown and Stride Rite was the store my mother shopped at for my shoes. I had a son that followed in my footsteps - literally!:lmao:

This is helpful!

Good luck! :)

OP, I don't really have any great suggestions for you since I get around the issue by using some great independent local shoe stores in my area. Since you mention sandals & dressy shoes in particular, I thought I might point out something you may not really be thinking about as that's the issue my younger DD has -- wide foot w/ high arches. Sandals are almost impossible for her -- even flip flops are challenging, believe it or not.

If you have access to an independent shoe store in your area, you may want to try them out for special occasions or the summer sandals she can wear the entire season, comfortably. They should be able to get you a good fit, and might even be willing to make some suggestions for stores/brands/styles to seek out for more affordable options also.

www.nordstrom.com has a great shoe dept for all widths. Zappos too, but when my DD was smaller, Nordstrom was the best place to get her tiny wide foot shoes. She is now 7, still has tiny feet, and I often still go the online route so I know I can get styles she likes. Good luck!

DS had square feet - we bought lots of the Nordstroms brand Nordy Sport, it has been many years and we no longer live anywhere near a Nordstroms so I don't know if they still have their own brand.

Vans were a winner with DS along with many of the skater style shoes - they are just wider. Also New Balance had lots of selection in widths.

I agree with Nordstrom but also check the Marts (K-Mart, Walmart, Target). We had the opposite problem, skinny, skinny feet and it seemed like all these places only carried wide shoes. If you just need them for dress shoes that she won't wear often, they are perfect since they are inexpensive (the marts, not Nordstrom).

You can try Payless.

The last time I was in--they seemed to have a better selection of wide shoes in higher sizes than I recall in previous years.

I was able to find wides for my 7yo who has pretty big feet (almost as big as her 9yo sister ).

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your suggestions! I think we will just need a day of shoe shopping.

We did have a local shoe store that was great, but it closed:guilty:.

We haven't tried Born or Clarks, but those do seem to run wider in womens.

I will check out the other stores as well.

Any European brands? They always seem to run wider since they walk so much over there! I have looked at Ecco's but nothing really dressy.

Primigi is a good one for kids shoes. I don't know how dressy they are as I always bought boy shoes from their line- but they do make nice girls shoes.

Funny you asked about European Brands. I pay a fortune in shipping and VAT taxes to ship Lands End shoes over for DD. They are the only shoes that are wide enough for her feet that she thinks are comfortable and look okay. She gets the Mary Janes in wide sizes (she has several pair from dressy to casual and even one pair that works like sneakers). The sandals do not come in wide but they adjust so well that she is fine in them.
She can find boots over here that are good for her but that is it so far.
Good luck on your shopping expedition.
