I am relatively new to DVD's and am looking for opinions on the wide screen format vs. the full screen format. Which is better and what are the major differences?
Widescreen is similar if not exactly the same as the shot in the theaters. Full screen has to crop off the edges to fit. While this may be ok for a comedy, it'll be frustrating for an action or epic flick.
I always try to buy widescreen. If it's not available I seriously consider if I should buy it. With VHS's fullscreen where the order of the day, but with DVDs most people have figured out that widescreen is by far the better option.
When we bought our big screen the salesman suggested that we buy the full screen if we were sports enthusiasts, and If we were avid movie watchers we should go with the widescreen.
We purchased the full screen, and are happy with our decision.
I'm e a wide screen girl all the way, I have a wide bum to prove that. Hey Dan, thanks for that explanation, I knew that was a better choice to buy widescreen Tv just by listening what the sales guy told me but that really lets me know why it is a wide screen TV and happy I bought it.
Absolutely wide screen here. We like to see the whole movie, and there have been times when critical parts of the movie have been cut off with full screen.....
Thank you all for your opinions. And Dan, thanks for the link. Am I correct that the wide screen version is the one where it is black on the top and bottom?
And yes, in the widescreen versions, you will see black along the bottom and top, but after the first couple of minutes, you probably won't even notice it anymore.
A lot of people who are really into movies will only buy wide screen.
If you look at a DVD that offers both versions you can see the difference. Take a look at Monsters Inc. it has both versions. When you go with the full screen you lose a lot of details on the sides of each picture. I prefer wide screen so I don't miss anything.
