Wide leg pants for women

I try to buy pants that are more on the thin side. Not that I'm thin, but any kind of wide-leg looks horrible on me. I look like a stump.

Irrespective of your size or height, its all about proper fit and proportion.. A wide leg pant can look good on anyone as long as the pant fits properly at the waist and hip, and drops smoothly to the hem. Not Ursula's description and photos are really good examples.

Im short and round, but have a couple of evening pants that are wide legged, and look very good when paired with the proper top and heeled shoes. I also have a couple of pair of summer pants that I love because they are loose and flowing- much more comfortable in hot weather than something form fitting. I wear them with a wedge heeled sandal. But you need to pay attention to the kind of top you wear with them. Any top that is loose and baggy makes you look like you're wearing a tent. And wide legged pants that are too short will definitely make you look stumpy.

I'm all for boot cut and wider width pants! I don't care what today's style is calling for, I refuse to wear those tapered ankles! I'm pretty tall and on the thinner side and they still look horrible. NOBODY really looks good in those skinny jeans.

The narrower the leg is below the knee, the wider you're going to look in the hip area. That's enough for me to choose boot leg every time!

Picture says it all...

I am 5'6 and about 129lb and I love palazzo pants , as long as they are paired with a close fitting top they look great. They are perfect for cruises Day and night. I think any size can wear them as long as they are paired with the right top. I would never wear a baggy top with them even if thin.

Here's a picture I found. The full break would look sloppy, but the no break is choppy.

I like the quarter break myself and have them on almost all my pants - in which the majority are boot cut or straight leg. I've only recently embraced a narrower straight leg :lovestruc (at Old Navy) which is narrower than the usual straight leg but not so full on skinny as the skinny jeans, which are basically as tight as a thick pair of leggings.

The narrower straight legs are a better proportion to the roomier tops I wear. When I wear these tops with boot cut, I look dumpy & frumpy. :(

I have a couple bell bottom jeans that were in a few seasons ago. I bought them as an over-reaction to finding out a couple of my jeans tapered into those dreaded "mom jeans." :crazy2: :faint: So I made sure NO jeans could possibly be mistaken to taper IN. Now, I'm trying to figure out a way to narrow them to at least boot cut, if possible. The problem is that the seams of old jeans have a faded line right at the seam and it's quite obviously missing when the jeans have been altered. :headache:

You could try a bleach pen?

On last night's episode of Elementary, Lucy Lui (Watson) wore a pair of wide leg pants at one point. They fit her well, were the proper length and looked OK, but I'm not convinced of the style really working for anyone.

When you alter the shape of a jeans leg you have to do it from the inseam-side only; if you can't manage that, they are pretty much not alterable.

I thought of that, but I'd have to time it so right to not over-bleach it that I don't end up with an even more white/faded look that it draws even more attention to the fact that it was altered. Also some of the jeans have those faded "bumpy" marks down the leg along the seam, from the inner seam material being pressed against the inside of the pant leg. That is impossible to duplicate, even with a bleach pen or sponge.

Yes, that is also part of the problem. The grain line (straight, up & down weave of any material) of jeans is pretty obvious. Especially on faded jeans. So I can't take them in too much without pulling or shifting the material to not be straight up & down anymore. :badpc:

I'm 5"4" and look horrible in wide leg pants and trouser legs. I feel like I have elephant legs in those things. I have a pear shaped body so the skinny look looks good on me.
