We have a five year old with wide feet and it is hard to find comfy shoes for her. She is above average height and is already in a big kid size 1- 1 1/2 shoe. Does anyone know of a good wide width shoe for the parks?

Both of my kids have wide feet and we buy all their shoes at Stride Rite. They have a great selection and carry extra wides in many brands. My son, age 4 has been wearing Saucony running shoes since he switched out if the special soft soled walking shoes. He wore them in WDW the last 3 trips with no complaints. If you don't have a Stride Right near you, they have an online retailer. Hope this helps you out!!

Thank you for the help! I will look into the online retailer and see what they have.

Zappos might work for you to "try" things on from home. You can order shoes (they have extra wide I think, even) and free shipping to return if you're wanting to avoid an actual store.

I HATE buying $50 shoes for my kid, but he's got big fat feet, too so I have to do it. For the parks, he'll also wear crocks with socks sometimes. Not the height of fashion, but it keeps his feet happy.

Looks don't matter as much as function in my eyes. The little princess would probably disagree. She gets upset because her sister has narrow feet and can wear any shoe. The nearest croc's store is 45min away so I guess that is also an option. It is hard always having a high price tag for shoes when they outgrow them so quickly but it is what it is.

I second trying Stride Rite, but try to go to a brick store and let them do a correct measure to be sure they are in the correct size and width. They have tons of cute shoes that are also comfortable.

New Balance is a comfy shoe that comes in widths. I've worn them since grade school. Now I'm a 13 EEEE.

My DD has a very wide foot as well and I find that Stride Rite shoes fit the best. The nice thing is that they come in wide and extra wide.

I found a store one town over that sells stride rite and they will measure her feet. Thanks everyone for the helpful advice and suggestions. We found a disney sandal wide width on the website so fingers crossed they have her size.

My DD had a very wide foot, and she could never wear Stride Rite. Her foot was very wide in the front, but her heel was not that wide, and she walked right out of every pair of Stride Rites, the store claimed were a perfect fit for her. We had a really hard time finding her shoes and they were always expensive. On the bright side, she is 8 now, and sometime when she was 6, her feet slimmed down quite a bit to where now she can wear a whole lot of regular sizes and styles. Sometimes she still needs a wide, but there is a much bigger variety that fits now. For WDW, back when her feet were wide, we found that the best shoe for her were Merrells. She did not even need a "wide" in them, like she usually did in other shoes. I think the style she used to wear was something like these:

You can probably find them cheaper at other websites.

Now both of us are addicted to Bernie Mevs as our Disney shoes. They are definitely the best shoes I have ever worn to Disney and DD loves them too. They are stretchy so even though they don't come in "wide" sizes, they should stretch to accomodate a wide foot. My feet are pretty wide too, and I love them

I would also say be careful of open toe shoes at WDW. It is a crowded place and little feet get stepped on and shoes can get caught on things. My DD trips a lot over the front end of her own shoe if she has sandals that are open all the way across. We do the open toe Bernie Mevs at WDW, but it is more of a peek toe than having it all the way across.

Also, I would absolutely recommend getting Body Glide to avoid blisters. My DD and I are blister magnets because with wide feet, shoes tend to rub areas. I rub Body Glide over both of our feet at WDW and we never get blisters there. Pre Body Glide, I always got blisters on my feet at WDW. You can get it at most runners shops or bike shops and Dick's Sporting Goods sometimes carries it.

I picked up some body glide and have it in the supply box for WDW. So many people suggest it on the boards I thought we would try it. I always get blisters on my right little toe. Thanks about the open toe advice, totally didn't think about that!

We are also big SR fans for wide feet. Great to get fitted if you have one close, but Zappos is great for selection. If no store close by, read the reviews and they have free shipping and returns.
