wide angle lenses

Hey everyone! I'm looking at picking up a wide angle lens for my camera (stated above) and I'm wondering how I am going to mount it to my camera. I have a feeling that I need to pick up an "adapter ring" for my model...is this correct?

Okay...let's make this easier! Other than the wide angle lens, what do I need to buy so that I can make the wide angle lens work properly?

TIA

I'm thinking about buying a wide angle lens (Sigma 10-20). I'm interested in seeing what can be captured in WDW using a lens like this. Please share your wide angle photos. Thanks!

Don't have any Disney photos with this lens...yet, but I can tell you it is a wonderful lens. It stays on my camera 90% of the time.
Here are a few HDR's I took using this lens.

Here are a few with the Sigma 10-20...

See and I loved the wide angle ones, but the fishy doesn't do anything for me except make my eyes wig out... :)

Very nice shots

Love your pics here Jeff. Awesome!

I really like the 10-20mm. I certainly would have come in handy while touring Philadelphia's Citizens Bank Park. I only go as wide as 18, but going to 10 would have be very nice to have. I'd get so much more in 1 shot.

Its a lens that's DEFINATELY on my list to get. I may try and rent one or at least the Nikkor 12-24mm for our trip to the World in Nov.

MGM

Is this wide enough? :rotfl2:

12 frames @ 60mm Dimage7i 5Mp

There is really no need to spend big $ on a wide angle.

it's funny i got the tokina 10-17 fisheye which i really like as a lens. sharp etc..., it's only really fishy till 12 or so imo.( on my 1.6 crop, dont' know how much difference that makes)

but i hardly ever use it wide....just not my style i think. maybe when we go on vacation i'll use it more. the fisheye is really fun imo and the wide is nice and sharp...i just need to make myself shoot wide:confused3 i aways want to crop it to death and then what was the point? love the others work here though just not mine;)

Color me in the 10-17mm fisheye camp. In fact, I think that the fisheye at 17mm captures a similar angle of view as a 10mm rectilinear lens like the 10-20mm, with little evidence of fishiness. (I don't have the exact numbers in front of me, but I seem to recall that being the case.) Plus, you have the full fish effect as an option, which is a lot of fun! :thumbsup2

Ok so as many of you know by know we just got the Sony A100...I noticed in the box the other day an extra lens that came with the pack I bought (through ebay). It is a Digital Concepts digital high definition 0.5x wide angle lens with macro. Wow what a mouthfull. I attached it to my kit lens (18-70mm) and my 35-105mm lens, took a few pictures and noticed a little difference in width. So I'm not getting what this is for and how to really use it to my advantage? TIA

10 more days until we leave!!

Hello,
I have said camera and am thinking of investing in a wide angle lens. One that can capture the entire DCL Magic ship or the beauty of Hawaai when we go next year.

OK, I admit to being a point-&-shoot kind of gal. Can you take a 'regular' picture with a wide angle lens or do you need to switch back to another lens to get a pic of the family in front of the ship? :confused3

Any lens suggestions?

as you get wider, at some point the picture will become very obviously fish-eye looking.

An entire cruise ship is pretty wide. If you only want a few super wide shots you can take them in sections and splice them together with panoramic software.

I have looked at wide angle for my canon xt, they seem to be pretty expensive. But I have only looked at canon, not third party lenses.

If you got a wide zoom then you could probably take normal vacation portrait pics somewhere in the zoom range.

Sigma makes a great 10-20mm lens, it runs about 800$ last i checked. great quality My photo teachers recommended it over the canon one and Sigma lens are available for digital rebels. may be work checking out for you

Also! :D
if you place people towards the edge of the wide angle shot they will look more distorted then if they were placed in the middle especially when you go towards the 10-20mm range... just a thought
