wi fi in DLP / other phone options!

Looking up on the cheapest way to keep in contact with my husband at home and other family members.
My choices are

(using my iphone on orange)

Pay £5.10 before I go and I can get FREE incoming calls (therefore hubby will need to ring me using his minutes)

Pay £3 a day to use 3g services (x 4 days) therefore I can message him online using what app! and use the park guide with waiting times on phone. upload photos to facebook!

Ive read that Macdonalds is free wifi, but others say its not. Anyone know an answer to this? Do you have to make a purchase to get it free? Can I stand outside McD and log onto the net etc?

Staying at Cheynee but dont think there is any up there!

I used the McDonalds wifi in August and it was free. You can use it outside of McDonalds but the signal is a lot better inside, you will need to fill in a form when you first access the wifi on your phone to log in (just your name etc I think).
I also used my phones 3G (on O2) in the hotel, I only got charged £3 something (price for 1MB I think) and I used it for 3-4 days to upload pictures to Dailybooth.

could you turn your internet data off while you're at DLP and just text instead? Thats what I do when we're at DLP, send a couple of texts a day to say we're okay and what we've done etc.

If I can get free wifi, then would just send hubby a few messages via that!

Be careful when texting if you're on contract! I didn't text much, maybe 20 texts and was charged £9!
