Use are off in 2 days. Leave for the airport tomorrow. My 4 year old has spiked a fever, is chesty, snotty and has an upset tummy. Seriously why!!?????? I am hoping we will still go but will the airline allow us on if she is unwell? This holiday has cost a fortune in money and time so we can't just turn round now and say we won't go.

Kids go up and down like tower of terror. My boy can be full of snot one day and fine the next. Try not to worry. Let her rest, fluids and calpol. May want to check she doesn't have ear pain as if infection the pressure flying could hurt.

My big fear is the pox. My nephew goes to nursery and there has been several cases not him yet. Nice of my sister to tell me when I met her and not before. I joke that he's going spots and all. Bring out the concealer if i have to. ( I 'm kidding people)

Luckily both of mine have had pox. I feel cursed. I had tonsillitis last year on hols and my older girl was in hospital with pneumonia at Christmas. Pity party and rant over.

Counting down to 14th May!

Sounds like the nasty bug that's been doing its rounds. The good news is that it seems to be over and done with within 24-48 hours. Keep her home, lots of rest, hydration and tlc and you should be fine. :wizard:

If chesty it may be worth seeing a doctor in case she needs antibiotics as it would be better to get them started asap (they usually take 24-36hr to kick in)

Would also check for toncillitis as upset tummy (throwing up) can be a symptom along with the temp and rest of it.

My daughter has just started coughing and being grumpy and we leave on Sunday, so I am just waiting for what ever she is going to get to hit, but we might be lucky.....

I am sure in she will be fine when you go. Have a great time.

Don't panic, most kid bugs are over in 24-48 hours :)

Plenty of water and rest and maybe some chewable vitamins would be my recommendation. You could ring NHS direct for some reassurance or to see if antibiotics are required though.

Kids can bounce back really fast but I would see if you can get in to see the doctor in case it's some sort of infection because antibiotics in the US aren't cheap. I had what I thought was a cold flying out in 2001, within 24 hours of arriving, I was really sick. It was severe sinusitis and 5 antibiotic pills (they were strong horse pills!) cost $150. Worth getting in just to be safe.

As for the flight, unless someone is obviously ill for example throwing up etc. You shouldn't have a problem. The real issue is how will your child feel/cope more than will the airline stop her. I can't think of anything worse than having a stomach bug and being stuck on a plane!

Probably a 24/48 hour thing and she'll be fine but I think it's a judgement call you'll have to make on departure day, especially if you have other kids that may cop it get sick en-route.

My. DDS are usually the same and 9 times out of 10 end up at the GPS with one of them the day before we go :confused3

Fingers crossed for you that it's sum thing. & nothing :thumbsup2

Thanks everyone. I will book a dr appt for the morning for a check over. I wonder if they'll give me "just in case" antibiotics. Let's hope.

Aww that's so typical with kids! We are not long back and the one night we stayed at Universal for early entry and express pass my eldest was up all night being sick and she is NEVER sick. As you said, WHY?? I am sure she will be better soon and at least by the time you arrive it should be almost over. Fingers crossed for you.

How did you get one? Any better today?

i don't think we've ever been to WDW without one of the kids getting sick..
i've spent a fortune over the years on doctors visits there!!
but what can you do, kids get sick.... the good thing is, they usually bounce back pretty quickly!!

how is your little one today? i hope she's feeling better!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully no news is good news. Have a safe journey and a wonderful trip Mrs Poppins :goodvibes

Hope that your child is doing better and you are able to travel!:):cool1:

We always purchase trip insurance "just in case". We have elderly parents and we never know "what can happen". These vacations are a fortune and we feel that the cost of insurance is well worth it.

"Better safe than sorry" is our motto. We had to use it once and we got very prompt reimbursement!:thumbsup2

Thanks everyone! Thankfully the fever is gone. She just has a bad head cold now so lots of calpol and ibuprofen. Waiting to board flight ba2037 with my girls as we speak! Massively excited.
No other drama so far other than being evacuated from premier inn Gatwick last night due to the fire alarms going off!
