Okay, I am 38 and I have never had my eyeballs hurt. It started out with my right eye earlier, feeling king of achy and when I touch the eyelid, it feels like it's bruised. A few hours later the left one is starting as well. I don't wear contacts and don't have any other symptoms like redness or itching. Any idea what this might be? I don't know if I should go to the doctor, the optometrist or just wait a few days to see what happens with it.

sinus congestion. Take a nasal decongestant or spray with a nasal spray decongenstant.

Are you hungover? That's the only time my eyes hurt.

Sinus issues.. it can also make your teeth hurt. No fun at all. Advil will help and a decongestant.

If I fall asleep with my mascara on, my eyes feel the pain. Or if I don't get enough sleep they feel bruised.

The only time my eyeballs hurt is when I have the flu. That is how I know for certain that it IS the flu and not something else.

Sound plausible. I had this a couple of weeks ago, and combined with my long-standing but recently diagnosed ocular hypertension, it actually caused a black artifact in my field of vision a few times. Sinus medication relieved the pressure (it didn't really "hurt" me, but people perceive things differently) and the artifact didn't come back, even since I've stopped taking the medication.

I take Claritin and FLonase daily, but ran out of Flonase last week and haven't had time to refill. Maybe it is sinus or tiredness. Definitely NOT a hangover as I don't drink, LOL.

I don't even want to THINK the flu! We have only been in school 6 days, and have been sanitizing like no tomorrow.

My eyeballs feel like that when my sinuses are bad...it's pressure on them. Try Sudafed and Motrin and that should take care of it.

Ouch. I hope you'll feel better soon.
Mine feel like that when I have sinus trouble or when I have a cough. But anything with the eyes is not to be messed around with so if it's not better right away and you can't figure out an obvious cause for it--I'd head to the doctor.

When is the last time you had your eyes checked? My first thought was glaucoma, which builds the pressures up behind your eyes. The "puff of air" test is what people usually refer to it as.

It could be a virus - maybe even something that is going around. My DS was just complaining about the same thing and I was all set to take him to the doctor, but then it went away.

Glaucoma is painless though unless it's acute glaucoma and that is INTENSE pain and an emergency. I would guess it's sinus pressure.

Just seeing that you live in the south, I would suggest the flu. It's going around like crazy. My sister-in-law has a confirmed case right now, and her only symptom was a bad headache that was making her ears hurt.

i thought that too.

it could also be eye strain or something. i'd get it checked out. an optometrist would probably be better than a gp

I would call the Dr. It is probably nothing, but really, if it is something wrong do you want to play around with your eyes? They aren't like ****s, you can't buy a new pair. :rotfl2:

Well, sudafed helped some, so I am thinking its sinus related. I am picking up my flonase later, and hopefully have caught it before it turned into an infection. I went to the optometrist last winter, but I don't think he did the glaucoma test. If it is still bothering me in a few days, I will get an appt.

Mine had been hurting for several weeks. I went to see the eye doctor about 3 weeks ago and this is what I have:

I have another appointment in a month for a recheck. But, the doctor said that sometimes it takes months for it to improve. The appointments are covered under my health insurance because it is a medical condition.

Ugh, my son(15) just told me that his lab partner in science is out with "some kind of flu".:scared1: This morning he had an upset stomach, but went to school(his choice). I had an upset stomach as well, but attributed it to a change in diet(going gluten-free) Now he just told me his eyes hurt. Sounds very similar to the way mine feel. Now I am worried! I guess we will see if there are any more symptoms to come.
