Why would anyone sell their DVC membership?

I would inform maintenance about those items in any room of any hotel. And I would expect them to be repaired.

I've never had them in any hotel room - I've only had them at DVC. If I had them in regular hotel rooms, then DVC would be the same as a regular hotel room. It isn't. I don't like the fact that DVC uses me as a maintenance inspector. The Deluxe hotels don't seem to need to use me as a maintenance inspector.

Now, as I said, I'm still content. But I can see how someone who is willing to pay for a Deluxe hotel would prefer a Deluxe hotel.

I travel frequently (unfortunately). And I have had maintenance problems in all brands and levels of hotels, even the top tier like Ritz and yes including Disney. I have found that a call to maintenance is generally responded to within a short time.

My point is that the difference between a hotel and a timeshare is fundamental and those who like the hotel concept may not be attracted to the timeshare world.

I agree. I also travel a whole bunch, and I see maintenance issues at every hotel at some point in time.
Disney is no exception. We stayed at the GF last December, and it appeared as though someone spilled an entire cup of coffee on the carpet. Housekeeping came in short order and cleaned it right up (it was still wet!). There were also other minor issues that were dealt with promptly.

My opinion:
Bottom line, in my experience (average 156 nights/year in a hotel) the DVC Resorts are on par with other hotels, and the regular WDW Hotels.
That said, I think all Disney Resorts should be held to a higher standard than non Disney branded hotels. After all, they're Disney and the prices they charge should command superior housekeeping. I don't mind paying more for anything Disney, but I expect to see WHY I'm paying more. :smokin:

Very true, and also exactly my point as well - but how often do you see that difference played down on these boards when someone is evaluating buying DVC. The common theme is "well, you don't get daily housekeeping - but we prefer that!" Sometimes even assuring people that "they too, won't miss having their bed made daily." Guess what - I miss having my bed made for me on vacation - still do - haven't gotten used to it. We don't care if housekeeping is in the room midday - we are either in the parks or the pool. We notice a difference in the upkeep of the DVC rooms vs. a CRO room. Bug us enough to sell? Not yet, we still get value plus out of having the kids in a different room, but if it were just DH and me - I'd be staying Deluxe (or I'd be staying offsite - and we wouldn't go to Disney often enough for the timeshare anyway.

Guides, DISBoard members, the DVC owner you run into by the pool who gushes about their DVC - sometimes we all set someone's expectations about what DVC is a little high and encourage them to buy - then they aren't met and that person is disappointed. And that disappointment can lead to deciding DVC isn't for you and selling. Should that person have purchased in the first place - probably not, timeshares aren't for everyone, DVC isn't for everyone - even if you are a Disney nut. But we can occationally be a little slow on the uptake here - this thread is a good example of that. Luna99 isn't a member yet, is interested, wants to know why people sell - and one reason - that our expectations weren't met because we wanted more of an hotel experience - is being downplayed by others, almost discounted - but THAT IS A VALID REASON TO SELL (and, for Luna99, a valid reason to consider not buying).

(It isn't just the DVC Boards, the DISBoards are like this all over - people gushing on the restaurant board over Le Cellier like Beer Cheese soup is ambrosia and the steak is the best ever - but the investment in a meal isn't as big a deal as the investment in DVC).

It is true that there are many reasons to sell, but I hope we shall not have to. We purchased OKW in '98, when our youngest child was 20, and our oldest had two children of her own. We have enjoyed many trips by ourselves and with all or some of our children and grandchildren or other family members. Because of financial and medical reasons we have not been to WDW in four years. This year I discovered that we could rent our points which is what I had to do:sad2:.

What concerns me from the DIS are the comments about maintenance and difficulty making reservations. I have never had a problem getting a res when I wanted it except once, but our second choice was available. We even get the location we want (I do have M.S. and can't climb a lot of stairs so I have the med. reason for a first floor at OKW). Have things really changed that much in four years? I am getting visions of everything falling apart, and all CMs being rude which was not the case in the past.

We are planning to go next May with our DS and his family. I want this to be the same as the magical trips we have had when we took our other grandchildren for their first time to WDW. Please tell me that I need not have nightmares over this!

Even in my world, CMs are not rude (but they do, IME, treat you better as a CRO guest - however, I'm a BWV owner - I visted OKW once and it was a much friendlier place during my 20 minute self tour and pool visit than I've ever found BWV to be - we like BWV, but I wouldn't put "CMs make you feel special" as a reason). Nor are things falling apart. Drawers we don't use anyway are off their rails - and can't be adjusted without a screwdriver because the rail has detached in one room, Door on the tv cabinet needing its hinged tighted in another. Rips in the upholstry, but only when you remove the cushions to pull out the hideabed (I think it was a popped zipper, actually). Stoves with pancake batter between the panes of glass. Cracked tiles in the bathroom. None of these are "oh my God, what a disaster" sorts of maintenance issues, just "I really would prefer having the fridge wiped out between guests and the drawers fixed." Perhaps we've had extra bad luck. Possible. Perhaps the BW is kept up to a lesser standard, also possible. And a lot of these are issues you wouldn't get in a regular hotel room - pancake batter in what stove? Cushions on what sofabed?

Just the same the standard should not have fallen to such a state. I definitely would contact maintenance and housekeeping about such incidents. We, on the other hand have had service with just the right touch of pixiedust: One particular vacation at OKW a very special pin of mine was missing. This was a Mickey icon with the USA flag emblem on it which was sent to all DVC members shortly after 9/11. All indications were that it went missing the day of trash and towel service. Wherever that pin went remains a mystery, but CMs were in contact with me several times over the next two days. Then one morning a manager type CM was at our door with a replacement pin attached to the original card exactly like they were sent out to us. Those of you who remember this pin may know that it was not available to the general public, and since this was more than a year after they were issued, they were difficult to come by. One CM told me they were actually looking on eBay to find a replacement for me. So, long story but this is the type of experience I look forward to as a DVC member, and I certainly expect a clean stove.

So far I have sold one small contract and have two others listed. All of these listings are for contracts with end dates of 2042. I have two others left to list.

I plan to raise enough $ to pay for most of a 100- 150 point purchase at CRV when It is finally announced.

I am convinced that others will do this after CRV is announced and that I will make out better now.:cool1:
