Why would anyone hold a $$ reservation?

For those saying to rent, one of the larger rental agencies currently has almost 1300 confirmed reservations listed. I assume they were cancellations. May not be easy to rent when people are leery to travel and leery of rentals.

I am starting to see a lot of availability into the fall. I bet a lot of those are cancelled rentals. I wonder overall what percent of DVC bookings are rentals?
