Why Would Anyone Buy Park Passes from Ebay

ummmmm.....NO....

I would assume that these people don't do their research into how much the passes really cost. It's amazing how many people"do" Disney with no prior planning or preparation.

Nope... they are most likely selling used passes and passes are non-transferable as well as you can't trust how many days are left on them. So not on my life would I do that.

I remember someone posting a few months ago that they purchased PHP tickets off Ebay and when they got them all that was left were a couple of the plus features...no days in the parks at all.

I almost won a bid on park hoppers because it was a good deal. I did not let my bid top the current price, though.

Now, before you all think I was off my rocker to even attempt such a stupid trick, here are the details.

They were 1992 (5-day) hoppers, with great pics of the unstamped windows AND they were clearly not punched either. In those days, the tix had 5 spaces for the use date to be stamped and also a place for a hole punch. The hole punch prevented the owner from trying to remove the date stamp and get more (i.e. illegal) dates of entry. The pics were very clear and they had 2 days left on the tix. Also, the pic showed that they had never been signed; they were blank.

Having been on the DIS for years, I knew that they were still valid. I was hoping that most Ebayers would think that the old tix weren't as good as new ones and pass them over. Up until the last hour of bidding, I had them at about $43/day. With my DVC discount, I knew could get 2-day UPH's for less than $60/day, so I did not exceed $50/day in my bid ceiling. I thought I would have a great deal but somebody else saw the same thing.

I would never, ever think of bidding on the scanned tix. Too risky and I wouldn't want my family to be visited by Mickey's police for using stolen tickets.

Mostly, I think it is people who don't do their research. It is so common to see tickets going above gate price. However, I did see one semi-reasonable reason from someone who wanted the ability to park-hop but only for 2 days. He said it was worth paying a little bit more than gate price for 2 daily tickets so that he could hop from park to park during those 2 days.

I would never try it unless I was getting such a good deal that I was willing to gamble with the purchase price.

Maybe for the same reason someone would bid on a voucher to ride in the front of a monorail.
