Why would a member buy 25 points at the new Bay Lake Towers?

We just got a notice that there would be a price increase and one of the things mentioned was the chance to buy a 25 point contract at the new BLT. I know the minimum is usually 100 points so seeing this offer really confused me.

I can't remember if there is a good reason to buy only 25 points at a resort? I think I remember that someone once mentioned it in a long ago thread but I am at a loss now to remember the content. I am already a member.

About 5 nights in a studio every three years -- bank into one year, borrow from the third and in the middle year you thus have 75 points total to use.

Was just about to say the same thing!

The minimum for an add-on is 25 pts. Someone may have an original contract for 160 pts but, decides that isn't enough. They can add, as little as, an additional 25 pts. That is obviously going to change in January....for BLT.

Oh, I thought that the 100 pts was the norm. Now I see it's not. That's the big deal here with the announcement I guess. Will all the other resorts remain 25 points then? Why is BLT singled out? Seems contradictory to me. I might buy 55 points, that way I can stay in a one bedroom in off season --MK view or a better season--lake view. I forget, how much is it a point?

Here's another reason to buy 25 point contracts- they allow you to build your points in a more affordable way. I don't know if people really buy a 25 point contract and then say, "Ok, that should be enough"!

I have 2 25 points contracts at OKW, and was planning on getting another one this March. By buying them separately, I didn't have to finance them, and I didn't have to wait to get points there. I used those points, adding them to my other points at the 7 month mark.

And with 75 points, I will have:
-More than enough for a studio Sun-Fri every year. (in any season)
-More than enough for a 1 br Sun-Fri every other year. (in any season)
-Exactly enough for a 2br Sun-Fri every other year. (in Magic season)
-Exactly enough for a Grand Villa Sun-Fri every third year (in Dream season)

But if they raise the minimum add-on amount for all the resorts, I'll be an unhappy camper in March. :sad2:

I was planning on adding on some BLT points the same way, starting in 2010, but I guess that won't happen now.

Exactly.

Right now our youngest doesn't count and she sleeps in our bed so no need for 1 bed room yet. Why pay extra MF each year and finance charges.

Also we have almost finalized our purchase at BWV where we plan to stay most of the time.. We only want to be able to stay a night or 2 each trip once or twice a year at BLT.

We plan ongoing at the end of school - May/June & beginning of Christmas break. So 25 points would get us a studio at BLT 1 or 2 nights (Sun-Thur), one or both of those trips.

I certainly hope that they don't change the 25 point chunks as I was planning to buy all my points at GCV as serveral 25 point contracts so I can give them neatly to the kids later.

I have contracts with as little as 50 points, but now I wish I had kept them all around 100 points. I have so many contracts, I have 12, that checking each one for reservations and availability has become a nightmare. Of course DVC does a good job with selecting points from the contract I advise them to, so I guess I'm okay.

I want to buy into BLT but my husband is saying NO MORE TIMESHARES, NO MORE DVC POINTS EITHER. I could persuade him, but in this economy, am I crazy buying more and more things??? We have watched our portfolio dwindle and we are retired with no opportunity to earn more $$..So what to do, what to do...?

I'm the same way, I really want some BLT points and my DH just gave me permission to purchase when the developer points came into play, but with the economy the way it is I'm a little nervous to purchase right now. Plus I really don't need 100 BLT points in order to stay there every 3 years. I'm going to think about it for a while and if I decide to go for it, the increase in points isn't until Jan. 15th, so if I'm going to purchase I'll purchase before this date.

We were planning on buying a 25 or 30 point add-on at BLT in the spring. That would give us a studio for a couple of nights each year, or we could bank and borrow for a longer stay. With the new 100-point minimum, we won't be buying at all. We don't want to finance, and we really don't need another hundred points. We'll take our chances at seven months.

Wait-a-second. So, members can do that??? I mean is it posible to get the points from three years? Banking from the first year, borrowing for the following year and using the points of the middle year to multiply our amount of points by three???

That is FANTASTIC!!!!

We have two more "traditionally sized" contracts (165 and 150 points), and have really thought about getting a smaller BLT contract. We would love a few points at a MK resort, and we prefer the conveniance of a monorail resort. The Contemporary is our least favorite monorail resort, which makes justifying a BLT purchase more difficult. I wouldn't want or need a lot of points there; we don't care for the theming, we just want the location and the views for a couple of nights from time to time. If we were more certain we'd be able to get what we want at 7 months from time to time, we wouldn't need any points at all there. As is, we're thinking about a small contract simply because that is all we'd want.

I personally think that their timing on this one stinks. If they waited another month or so people would have time to get their taxes done & filed (we will still be waiting on documents thru the end of January). A big fat tax refund could cover a smaller contract.:rolleyes1 We typically get a decent size one - but I would never presume to make such a big purchase before actually getting the taxes figured out for sure.:sad2:

Yes and if you travel over the time your UY changes, you could even do 4 years worth of points.

It is possible, but you only get to vacation once ever three years. And you're still on the hook for dues every calendar year.

Example: You own 50 points. In 2009 you could use 150 points for a single stay. That would be using 50 points from '08, 50 from '09 and borrowing 50 from 2010.

All three years you would still pay dues on 50 points.

And you would not be able to repeat the process for three more years in 2012 (using 2011, 2012 and 2013 points.)

It's a little cumbersome but doable. I'm not sure how well it works with a single contract, though. For instance, if your 2009 trip was only 140 points, you have 10 left over (presumedly in your 2010 Use Year.) What do to with them? You could bank them into 2011. But then that means your next vacation would have to be moved up to 2011 and all you would have available are 10 points from '10, 50 from 2011 and 50 from 2012 (total 110.) If your typical trip is 140 points, you'll have to compromise somewhere or risk losing those 10 banked points.

You could buy a few and resale them after Jan.15.

Mm hmm. Remember those 25- and 50-point AKV contracts that were bought at $94(?), points stripped until 2009 and 2010 and then went up on TTS and sold at $104 a point?
