Why Won't You Sit With Us?

Are you willing to share a table?

  • Never under any circumstances!

  • If I'm alone, and there's a blank chair between me and them.

  • Only in long table establishments like Biergarten.

  • Sit down, stranger, and enjoy your meal!

I have no problem with sharing a table if it was pre-planned (i.e. eating at Teppan Edo), but otherwise I would probably be one of those people taken aback if someone asked me to sit with them or tried to join my table at a CS restaurant. I am a little on the shy side (though my husband would invite the world to sit with us) and when I sit down to eat it is kinda my downtime from the Disney crazyness. Plus, at some restaurants others may be offended by all the oohs and aahs I make while eating a good meal :lmao:

Oh NO, your oohs and ahhs would not offend me. I do the same thing. I have also been know to get up and do a little happy dance.

I hate it.

Maybe because I've had bad experiences. Once (not at Disney) a drunk lady actually threw up right at the table. On another occasion another lady started eating off of my friends plate "to taste what he got".

I generally avoid place like Biergarten b/c I don't like making small talk with strangers. I generally have a ahard time coming up with things to talk about since I do not follow sports, don't watch a ton of TV and generally don't like talking about my job too much. I'll say hello if engaged, but I purposefully give short answers to any questions to curtail an awkward evening of stilted conversation.

I am not a huge fan of Japanese steakhouses for one reason only - I HATE when the chef decides it is time for him to flip little pieces of food into people's mouths. What the heck are we, performing animals? Just put on your cooking show, no need to throw shrimp and chicken bits into my mouth, buddy.

You live in a worldly group of people, then -- I've seen several posts in other threads about how people hate to share the Biergarten tables with others.

Then don't sit with those unfriendly Americans. :thumbsup2 Unless the person stinks of BO, I tend not to give a hoot whom I sit with on vacation, but that's me.

I have 2 disabled childrern, who are now young adults. Sometimes their eating habits could seem repulsive by others, so we tend to not put other people through that if we can help it. We are friendly in other places though, such as waiting for parades, on the bus rides to/from the parks, etc. It is just that eating can be challenging for our family and we also tend to take a long time. :cool2:

Mostly we skip out on table sharing because we are lesbians and we just don't want any drama to invade our vacation. We are making one exception this year, but we are already seriously considering cancelling, and that is for Teppan Edo.

What kind of drama would you expect? Last time I booked, there was no requirement to declare your partner's identity when you booked or ordered...

From a potentially ignorant point of view, I see lots of women traveling together and I don't automatically assume they're a couple... but then again, my wife has warned me that I'm terribly naive in many ways.

Well, you don't need to worry about me. My mama raised me right ;). In the course of conversation, I might tell you your food looks good and ask what you ordered so I can try it next time I eat there.

I just think that it is very SAD that 12% of the people who voted in this poll, will not share a table under any circumstances.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Not sure that it has anything to do with being American:confused3 , but my DW and I both have introverted personalities so we prefer to not sit with others. That is not to say we would never sit we others, we just avoid it unless necessary.

I don't hate it, but I have to be in the right mood for it. I'm usually quite shy and there are moments when I just want to be with DH and no one else. We both work long hours and never see each other, so we like to reconnect on our WDW trips. Therefore, I don't always want strangers in the mix.

I hate to make small talk, but if you'd like to discuss your WDW vacation with me, then I'm all ears. My favorite is talking to people who are enjoying their first ever trip to WDW.

I will sit with others, I will chat with others waiting to ride, it doesn't bother me. I just don't like being touched by people I don't know so as long as they aren't hugging me I'm just fine lol :flower3:

Sharing a table is common in my culture. I grew up sharing table at restaurant since I was born. Every Sunday, that's the only way we can get a table at any restaurant. It never even occur to me that's an issue.

The way I look at it. I am on vacation at the most popular place in the world. If I want to shelter myself, I might as well stay home. I too like my personal space. But when it comes to eating time, sharing table would not bother me.

I guess you could ask, say at the Biergarten, if there are any open spots near first timers... Has anyone tried this?

Ah, but the good news -- over 82% of respondents WILL share in some circumstances, and more than half of those in ANY circumstances.

I may test those numbers when I'm there in Dec.

"Pardon me, is this seat taken? Mind if I sit with you at this table?"

45% is over half? :confused3 ;) :goodvibes

The way I am reading it 54.5% say never or only in certain circumstances and 45.5% say sure - anytime.

It's over half of those who say they would share... not of the total.

IOW, of the 83% (100%) of the total who would share, 45.8% (or 54% of the 100% who will share) will share regardless of circumstances and 37.5% (46% of the 100% who will share) will share under limited circumstances.

Is that clear now? ;)

Our family loves it! We love the Biergarten b/c we get to be with other people- and DD8 & DS9 thoroughly enjoy entertaining the other people! We have always met some of the nicest people at the tables we share! Not sure everyone enjoys us as much- but we have fun!
