Why, why, why ?

I know what the Florida law is, but I don't agree with it. Some people, no matter how much they've had to drink, don't show the obvious signs of being drunk. Unless someone is obviously impaired - how and why should the bartender be the one to determine if someone has had too much? Also, if the club/bar is large enough and the people all blend into one and wander the club (being served by different people) who's keeping count of how many drinks a client has? This is a horrible tragedy which could have been avoided by only one person....and that was the young man himself. Unfortunately, the drinking obviously impaired his judgment, resulting in his death. You don't get do-over's after you're dead.

It's so tragic that this man didn't have any friends with him that were willing to face him down and wrestle his keys away from him. Sad, sad, sad. :sad2:

i am so glad you two are alright. but, very sad that you had to witness such a horrible accident. i know there are stubborn people out there that just won't listen to you when you say they have had enough.

we went out one night after class and a couple of older people kept giving a younger girl beverages. you could tell she had enough. well, we were ready to leave and i said i would drive her car home and jeff would follow us. she resisted. no way was it going to happen. none of us could get her to say ok.

so, the next best thing we could do was cut her off and walk her around to other bars until she got her head somewhat back on. i never stay out to bar close. i will tell you that was one long night but, she made it home safe.

I read that 7 out of 10 drivers on a weekend night are under the influence.

We knew eventually being out at that time every weekend we would see something bad happen. We see alot of weaving going on. :sad1:

I totally, 100% disagree with driving even with one or two drinks!!

I've spent a fortune in taxis either picking up Rick or one of the boys, but I'd rather do that than the alternative!!

Denise, I'm so glad you and Frank were not involved in this horrible accident! Three years ago, I was on John Sevier Hwy and it was drizzling rain and very cold so I was being extra cautious as I had my baby girl in the van with me. I went to pull out of the Weigel's parking lot and saw a car coming and thought I had better just let them go on. Had the weather not been bad, I would have pulled out because I had plenty of time and space. Less than a mile up the road, a drunk driver hit the car I had let go in front of me head on! Again because of the weather, I had enough space between us that we were not directly involved. Obviously we pulled over and were held for hours. I had to call DH to come pick me up because I was so shaken up. The lady in front of me was severly injured, but she did get better in time. The drunk driver was killed instantly. He had 3 DUIs and no license. Still to this day, that accident haunts me and I'm sure you and Frank will be haunted for a long time as well. I hate it for those that were involved but again I say, I'm glad you and Frank are alright.

Oh Frank and Denise, I'm so sorry! That is terrible! Maybe one day all cars will have breathalizers. I agree with Deb though...I don't think you can really hold a bar accountable. You don't know how much the person drank before getting there, or what their personal tollerance is. Unfortunately alcohol can make responsibility and judgement fly out the window. sad...so so sad.

Frank had to give a telephone interview to their insurance agent. Weird thing they both had Geico.
