Why,why, why do people bring kids to Las Vegas?

MY point is:
please, why can't there be just one
li'l place in the whole world where
children DO NOT HAVE TO BE
considered?(prayin' to the Bellagio Gods)

I don't think my kids would suffer any irreparable harm if we were to take them, but I really don't want to try to come up with age-appropriate explanations for all the adult stuff that is nearly impossible to avoid.

Hmmm, I just read Bellagio's "under 18" policy and I'm sorry - they're not really REALLY enforcing it. We parked there, walked through the lobby, walked through this awesome little train garden thingie they had (Russ loved it, BTW), oogled at the spa, then headed out to the Strip. All with the stroller. (But we didn't go over to their casino.) This was September.

We had heard that strollers would not be allowed into the Bellagio, unless you were staying there. However, we saw "thousands" of strollers there and decided to give it a go. Didn´t have any problems at all. Would love to stay at tje Bellagio next time.

Las Vegas is a city, not a den of sin! People live there - with children. I can think of lots of things people can do there with kids that are completely appropriate.

I think you might as well say, "Why would you bring kids to New York City?" as say, "Why would you bring them to Las Vegas?"

Try going thru the casino....believe me you are not allowed to stop. There is the "walkway" thru the casino which leads to the elevators and the shops and walkways, if you stop with children, you are quickly told to keep moving. I have seen it a hundred times. In LV they have rules and regulations to abide by and they do not bend rules....they cannot afford to. The eye in the sky is always watching. That is why the atrium is set away from the casino many people visit The Bellagio just to see that and the Chihuly ceiling. That is why you did not see any "enforcing" going on, there was nothing to enforce.

We stay at The Bellagio often 4-6 times per year, I have seen people being asked for ID, escorted out of the casino with children, so I would have to say they absolutely do enforce the law, not just at The Bellagio, but every casino.

Amen to that!

Yeah, I don't think I've ever seen strollers in the casinos. My kids were warned when they were just close to the casino at the Venetian.

this was my experience at the bellagio and at mgm grand as well on our recent trip to vegas. a family tried to cut through the poker room at mgm and about 10 security guards descended on them. obviously they were just walking through, not stopping to play, but security was on them like white on rice.

Their website says no strollers allowed, period - not just in the casino. And like I said, I played a slot machine at MGM Grand and no one told us to keep moving. We wandered around that place, on the casino floor, with the stroller, for 20 minutes trying to find a place to eat.

I'm just curious, if they said you shouldn't, why did you? Not judging, but just curious.

Oh, because I didn't read their website before going - this was a spur of the moment trip so all I knew was I wanted to see the fountains, so we parked at the Bellagio and walked out that way after spending 15 minutes walking around the garden and lobby. And like I said, no one stopped us and told us we couldn't be there.

Also, walking through MGM Grand, we were on the floor with the slot machines just because we got hopelessly lost trying to find food. That place is BIG!

I didn't know the "rules" and I wasn't trying to break any - for the most part we were just walking around the Strip, not forcing the stroller through casinos. I was just sharing my experiences from a month and a half ago.

And I'm still mad the fountains were cancelled due to wind.

There is Las Vegas the Strip and Las Vegas the city. The strip to which we are all referring to is not the community or suburb of LV. Yes lots of families live in LV, but they do not live on the strip, they live in communities just like everyone else and are seperate from what happens on the LV strip.

The things you cannot do with children far outweigh the things you can do with children on the LV strip. Anything that you go to Vegas for is not worth going if you have kids because you can't do them. If you think otherwise, you are just fooling yourself. If you are into taking your kids for shopping, shows, tigers, botanical gardens and coasters, just go to NYC. In all our trips to LV, I have never seen kids at the restaurants we go to, the spa, the shows and they definately are not allowed in the casino...to be honest, I have seen very few children at the pools. There already is a Vegas for kids, it's called Disneyworld.

My parents took us to Vegas when my brother and I were kids. We were driving cross country and we stayed there for 2 days....we hated it. There was nothing for us to do, and this was during the "family" time in Vegas. My parents wanted to gamble - and who could blame them - but they did not want to leave us behind or give us money and let us go. I remember Circus Circus....it sucked, and that was a long time ago when that place was a big selling point.

Who says I can´t do it? If that´s what I want to do, I can most certainly do it, as long as one of us adults always stays with the kids. Well this just shows how different everybody´s experience and opinion is. We did all the kid-themed things in Las Vegas, actually spent quite some time at the pool and I also gambled a tiny bit and saw a show. We´re not big drinkers. Dh doesn´t drink at all, and I rarely drink. We are not big gamblers although I did spend 1-2 hours gambling in total, in the 3 days we spent there. Las Vegas for us was about experiencing the hotels, the buildings, seeing "everything" and experiencing the atmosphere. I guess our anticipation for Vegas wasn´t much different than the kids and therefore we had no problems.

We used to live in Burbank, CA and took many trips to Vegas both with and without the kids.

They were totally different vacations.

With the kids we stayed at Circus Circus.
We did the roller coasters and other rides, saw a magic show, took them on the gondolas and to Shark Reef, watched the fountains, rode the Eiffel tower, played in the arcades, etc.

Without the kids we stayed at nicer places (Venetian, for one) saw more adult shows, went to clubs, gambled, shopped, etc.

We love Vegas and I think a vacation there can be tailored to suit just about anyone's needs and wants.

It can be kid friendly and it can be XXX rated, depending on where you stay and what you do.

When we brought the kids there we made sure to steer clear of any places, attractions, restaurants, etc that weren't kid friendly out of respect to those who might prefer not to see kids hanging out.
I think the problem might sometimes lie more with the parents who don't supervise their children.

For example once I saw a kid messing around with the slot machine while her parents were oblivious to what she was doing. Needless to say, security asked them to leave.

It is adult oriented so if you are concerned about your kids seeing flyers for escort services stuck here and there, or billboards with half naked women on them, then that may not be the best choice for you.

And while it may have the nickname of Sin City, I don't think it's such a terrible place. If I did, my DH and I wouldn't be packing up our 4 kids and moving there next summer. :)

We took DS when he was 5 for my brother's wedding. It was a family affair obviously but the kids had a blast. We took them to the shopping area at Caesars Palace, they spent forever in FAO Schwarz. We took them to Adventure Dome at Circus Circus, they saw the Tournament of Kings at Excalibur, Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay and numerous other things. DS stills asks almost 4 years later when we are going to Vegas again.

I agree that there are many more things for adults to do, but there are many fun things for children too.

It's a city. And the strip is just a big fancy place with lots of great shopping, hotels and restaurants. They hotels and pools, and various fun things to do are filled with and just fine for kids. They are completely orgie free and make a great family destination.

The weather's great, there are plenty of things near Las Vegas, and a trip there would be the perfect combination of a little adult time for mom and dad with fun and sun filled days for the kids.

We had a great week in Las Vegas this summer with a 14 year old, 11 year old and 9 year old. We stayed in a timeshare miles from the strip (no casino). We went to Red Rock Canyon, the Natural History Museum, and lots of places at the hotels.....the Star Trek exhibit, the rollercoaster at New York, New York, the King Tut mueseum at the Luxor....we had a fun week.

I had heard that the pirate show was alo more risque than it used to be, so we skipped that.

Having said that, I'd say it's a been there, done that kind of trip. We had fun, but probably won't go again as a family (at least until the kids are old enough to gamble!!)
