Two fifty-somethings, my DS and I enjoyed four days at WDW last week--no kids, no husbands! I had made ADRs for Ohana and the Phantasmic dinner package at H & V. As suggested, we requested the main dining room for Ohana upon arrival, and waited to get it. We were seated right on the main aisleway--big mistake for many reasons. Miss 'Shaka Maraca', or whatever her name was, the ukelele/guitar games entertainer, made us crazy--nonstop loud patter--we heaved a sigh of relief when she took a break. Second craziest thing, was that each parent crowded around our table to take photos/video of their kids during Miss Shaka Maraca's entertainment--we felt it would be impolite to eat when these people were right there in our faces/spaces--I even took a photo of the parents taking photos--it was nuts! But the worst thing was that all of our food was delivered at one time--and the hot foods were cold after about two minutes. We both felt that the skewered meats were of very poor quality.
On the other hand, our cafeteria/buffet experience was terrific at H&V--and the hot food was hot!
A few other tips--if you want to eat at Earl of Sandwich in DTD, do not wait till 6:00 pm--go earlier, or you will be in line forever. HOB was great, and the noise factor was much less than in other places.
Mama Melrose's dinner was also good--expensive, but good. We decided that if parents with small children were on a budget, one Character Breakfast was all that was required--food and drink is extremely expensive in WDW. We ate a simple breakfast in our rooms, and tried several places outside the world for the rest of the week--and saved a bundle. Most of the kids we saw had little interest in meals--and small appetites. We would recommend bringing along 'grazing' foods, i.e. quartered PB & J sandwiches, crackers, mini carrots, nutrigrain bars, etc. We did not drink soda, but got free cups of ice periodically--which melted in the heat as they day went on--it was great. Since we do not drink caffeine, this was healthy and did not break the bank.
Just some thoughts we wanted to share with future visitors!
