Why we are not thrill a ride family

Cedar Point is a great park! Accidents happen. That would have scared the mess out of me!!!! I probably wouldn't get back on a thrill ride for a while, but I believe I eventually would.

You realize that's kind of like saying "We don't fly in airplanes because of the Air Malaysia incident."

Stuff happens.

It's still more dangerous to get in your car and commute to work than riding a thrill ride!

I'm reasonably sure that more people are injured every year in car accidents than on theme park rides of any kind. Sure, this is awful, but worse things happen and I don't bubble wrap myself yet. :lmao:

I understand. It's why I never cross streets anymore. I've also tried to stop breathing because of all the pollution, but I always wind up with a headache and then I turn blue.

125 feet in the air at 60 MPH and breaking cables..................plain dangerous !

Thankfully no one are seriously injured.

My 7 yr old son rode it for the 1st time just a few hours before the cable snapped. I was standing about 4 inches to the right of where the fence was destroyed. Honestly, if they re-open it, we'll ride it again. We're there almost everyday. You're far more likely to get into an accident driving TO the park than on any ride there.

:thumbsup2 And it's best to stop walking around due to number of emergency room visits when a person trips over own feet. Don't shower--you'll slip.

Just not caring for a thrill ride or not wishing to do them is a personal choice. It does not need to be justified. If it's my time to go, I'd rather be enjoying the thrill. That's my personal choice. I can't live my life in fear of what MIGHT happen.

Hi Tajz,

I am not in anyway saying Cedar point was at fault or they did anything wrong!

Travel is necessary, so we all take a risk, this is just to us a unnecessary risk.

To each their own!

That's still a silly way to look at it. The risk is so small. Travel is not necessary to any vacation. You are more likely to get injured in a car or plane on the way to your destination. Heck, it's more likely that a tree will fall on your roof and kill/injure you. But keep pretending like you are smart for not taking this calculated risk.

This ride will never be safer than the day it reopens given how inspectors will be going over it with insane scrutiny.

Sir, you are free to do as you wish. You need not mock someone you don't know.

Your points are mostly incorrect. Travel is done for more then just enjoyment or a vacation. Are we more likely to have a car accident...yes........plane or train accidents........no....hit by a tree or lightening.....I don't know.

This is because there is more then you would think small park and traveling amusements accidents.

Anyone who thinks that because accidents happen on thrill rides that it's an unreasonable risk to ride one, can certainly avoid thrill rides via their own choice. I did note that the OP said this was his own decision and his family's and didn't say "you are out of your mind if you ride thrill rides, you could get hurt." I know by the fact of just posting it, there is the appearance and the assumption that the OP is looking to persuade others to take his stance, but maybe not.

Although it's also true that there are even accidents on non-thrill rides, as well as on airplanes, cars, crossing the street and bathtubs/showers, although I hope nobody decides they're going to give those last two things up.

I agree, chances are when it's reopened, it will be the safest ride in the US!:thumbsup2

It's actually in the same range as shark attacks.

Thank you.......you are right........this was our choice and I explained why.

There is no way to be 100% safe in this world!

Hi Dave and that would make it highly unlikely......agreed..............I just don't see the reason to take the risk, yet I was big in diving back in the day! I can remember the first shark I saw in the water with me, I guess I thought that was worth the risk!

Times and opinions change.

Accidents happen. It's totally the OP's prerogative to NOT ride thrill rides. I've never not felt safe on any rides I've been on, and personally, I feel safer on them than I do driving in South Florida. It's all a matter of personal preference. Nobody is right or wrong.

It's actually in the same range as shark attacks.

So if I start to fly off the tracks at EE (as a poster hilariously questioned here last week) all I have to do is punch the Yeti in its nose and I'll be OK? (As is my knowledge of shark attacks based on 80s sitcoms)

Certainly your choice, and I endorse it ! The more people who feel that way, the shorter the lines for me and my family on all the good rides at the park.

/ I'm just worried about getting to MK - between Monorail accidents and all the Ferry accidents in recent years, I'm more scared about the journey from TTC to MK than Big Thunder Mountain.

Good laugh?, glad you enjoyed it.

Of course the discussion was about 125 feet in the air at 60 mph and cables breaking.

Not the monorail not moving on a track and I don't remember any ferry accident..............however the same situation floating the water.
