Yeah, obviously Pixar has been such a failureOriginally posted by jcodespoti
Steve Jobs!!! That guy can't run a company for more than a few years at best!! Look what he did to apple! And the company NextStep was a disaster. Eisner has his problems but Jobs is a lot of trouble.
There are other "honest people" (as you put it) on the board already -- Jobs certainly wouldn't be the only one, were he to join. Roy and Stanley only have issue with three board members in particular. They haven't leveled criticism at the others.Originally posted by Bob O
One honest person on a board of eisner cronies cant do much of anything and then wouldnt be able to speak out about what wrong with disney due to corporate gag orders that were forced upon Roy before he left the board/employment of disney.
That's a good point, Razor. I hadn't thought of that as a by-product of all of this. I mean ... there are Peanuts and Nickelodeon and Warner Bros. and Sesame Street characters populating lots of other theme parks, but it's the Disney characters that parents want their kids to meet. Throwbacks from their childhoods, I suppose, when the only characters you COULD meet were at Disney. Before everyone else got into the character costuming biz. I wonder if the Pixar gang is thinking of that? And, further, I wonder what kind of agreement that will be? There are, for example, Nickelodeon characters in both Six Flags and Paramount parks. Disney is notorious for protecting its characters to such a level that you need a special dispensation to have Mickey standing next to ANY non-Disney character, whether it be an Olympic mascot or Santa Claus. And Disney turns down requests every year for the characters to appear in other parks. Will Disney have a say on whether or not Buzz and Woody show up in whatever park the "new" Pixar characters are in? Or will certain Pixar characters remain exclusive to Disney?Originally posted by Razor Roman
Maybe they will have a brief walk-around period in Six Flags or some merchandise, but the only company that seems to make movie characters immortal is Disney. Where will my kids go to hug the characters from Ratatouille, or whatever the first non-disney picture is? They probably won't be able to.
You can make an argument that Disney did the right thing in letting Pixar go ( though I would disagree), but to say Jobs is mismanaging Pixar is absurd.
Then why aren't Roy and Stan targeting everyone? If they truly believed that the whole board was a total loss, they'd say so, but they haven't. They must believe that there are people there who could be effective board members, otherwise they'd condemn the whole board.Originally posted by Bob O
If the board members were honest and not a bunch of toadies in the back pocket of eisner they would have taken their fiducary responsibility seriously and gotten rid of eisner for both the companies well being and that of the stock holders who have seen their investment go down over several years time. But of course as reported in most places, this board has no independance at all and has been rated one of the worst of all corporate boards.

Well ... yeah. I GET that. But your note seemed to condemn all the board members out of hand, when in truth, Roy and Stan have only had issue with three or four. Just trying to keep things in perspective.Originally posted by Bob O
You first have to chop off the head of the "beast" and the rest will also drop off or fall in line and do their job like they are supposed to do.
Roy realizes if they can get rid of eisner then the worst board members can be next!!!
But have you seen Lion King 1.5? I've pretty much hated all the direct-to-video films (Poca 2, Hunch 2, One Hundred and However Many Dalmatians), and I REALLY didn't like Return to Neverland, but I've got to say that Lion King 1.5 was pretty darn enjoyable. But then, I've always been a fan of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, so I suppose it was to be expected.Originally posted by jcodespoti
Airlarry!,
Eisner has done many things that are dumb (Lion King 1 1/2 pops in my head right away)

Apple is trading at about $22.75 a share+-. In late fall of 2000 it was at about $65 a share, by December that year it was at less than $15.00 a share, all with the mighty Steve Jobs at the helm. This happened in just 3 or 4 months.
So the Stock has gone up 10 points (+-) in 3 an1/2 YEARS. a whole 2.75 points a year..what a good job he's doing.
And what about NEXTSTep?
Look I'm not saying that Apple is a good or bad company..what I am saying that when Steve Jobs says that Eisner is a bum (in so many words) he should think before speaking because his track record is not much better.
Eisner may have lost his way..time will tell.
