This was the first time we had done concierge. Last year I was never able to get a room. This year I had called several times but the SL was booked. (I even called that morning from the RPH at Universal and was still told that there was nothing available. This was however, the Saturday that Dennis was threatening. They did have several cancellations and so we were able to get a room. Well, it was sure worth it.
As I said I had no idea that they had expanded the concierge. Let me say that the food was generally fantastic. There was a nice continental breakfast from 7 until 10:30: bagels, croissants, cereal, ham, cheeses, juices, etc. There was a snack midday - we were only there at that time once all week. There were veggies and dip, cookies, chips. Early afternoon, until 3 or 4 I think, they had the most delicious cookies and scones, with other desserts. My diet was totally busted! There were rice krispie treats, brownies, raspberry tarts, etc. From 5 to 7 they had wine and beer (I think I saw champagne that first night?) and hot and cold hors d'oevres: mushroom puffs, chicken satay (always some type of chicken), salads, meatballs, olives, tomato and mozzarella salad, some spicy cucumber salad that was great, cheese and crackers, veggies and dip, salmon puffs, salsas, mussels, really all sorts of nice little appetizers. I easily could have just eaten there. (My husband and sons though just saw it as a prelude to a big dinner.) Off to the side there was a table with other children's selections, I am not sure what- I seem to remember chicken nuggets. And again those great desserts! From 8 until 10 there were the cordials and again those great desserts. (Just for your info, my son was with a friend in the main building and he said their food was exactly the same as that served at SL.)
My kids just loved it. Every time they walked through the lobby they grabbed something to nibble on and to drink. (Note - the hot chocolate machine was broken for several days - that was a little disappointing)
Our experience at the Sugarloaf was just incredible. I don't know how we could go back and not go concierge. All the staff was lovely. Housekeeping was perfect - she saw what we were using and brought extra towels, etc. without being asked. I know that some people have been unhappy with the service at th GF but all I can say is that our week there was just perfect.
(I wish I could say the same about the parks! We really thought it was much more crowded than usual - and we go every July. My husband and kids said that next summer we should go back to the GF, stay at the SL, and forget about the parks!!) Now, if you want to hear about the 5 fantastic nights at Universal....love that FOTL!
