Why Sprint PCS and WDW Don't Mix

When I last spoke with you folks, I mentioned that we arrived at WDW very prepared to break away from our often moody, hormonally-challenged teen girls. We brought CELL PHONES! OK, so there we are at MK, turning our girls loose while we're ready to have some of our own fun. Uh, it didn't quite work out that way, as you may have guessed.

First sign we were in trouble was right after riding Big Thunder, DH gets a voice mail on the cell. It's DD, telling us they were planning to hop to MGM. OK, fine. DH tries to call her back and finds that his phone has completely locked up. Key pad isn't working at all. Well, after a couple hours of swearing at the phone, he decides if this vacation is going to run smoothly, we need to get to a Sprint store and get this phone thing taken care of. So, we find a phonebook, call a Sprint store in Orlando, give them a call - "Sure! Just come on down and we'll take care of it for you sir!"

Again, once you leave the boundaries of WDW, the magic dissipates pretty darned quick. We find ourselves in a million year traffic jam which turns a long drive into a REALLY long drive. We finally find this rathole and DH goes in, I decide to wait in the truck. Good thing I had a book to read. After an hour, I decided MAYBE I should go and see if he's been abducted. Well, it turns out, he's STILL waiting in the line. I kid you not. This is true. Of course, by now, he's swearing up a storm and about ready to murder someone, so I quietly exited and went back in the truck.

My main concern at this point is not that the cell phone doesn't work. MY main concern is I MIGHT MISS SPECTROMAGIC! It's the only day it's running, and it's already almost 6:00 - and we are nowhere NEAR WDW at this point.

Oh, and I guess I should mention that I hadn't had any communication with my girls since we split up in the MK, and now I'm wondering what they're up to. We didn't even have our room number yet, so they had to be wandering the World somewhere - lucky for them, they had charging privileges on the UPH pass, so at least they could eat.

To sum it all up: Girls ended up back at ASMo, begged a desk clerk to tell them the room number and found their way into the room before DH and I did. Their only regret was not having their luggage so they could go swimming. So we found them laying in the room watching a Lifetime movie (the first of many they watched that week if you can believe it). The idiots at Sprint were useless. Told DH they could send him a new phone to the hotel in a few days, but he would have to drive back to the store to activate it. I'll let you use your imaginations to guess what he told that store clerk.

When we next meet, I'll let you know how Spectromagic went, and I'll tell you all about my new boyfriend...;)

Yikes! I have a fairly new sprint phone. I hope I don't have those same problems in the park.

Though I must tell you, I absolutly hate sprint. I'm counting down the day until my contract is up. The customer "service" people are amoung the worst I've ever experienced. Long story, won't go into it here......

I too hate my sprint cell phone the have the worst peoples wroking for them. and theycharge youo to call there customer service line. I'm thinking of starting a Hate company list because Curves for women is also on my list

"phone has completely locked up. Key pad isn't working at all"

I too have Sprint. If its a Samsung phone to unfreeze it just remove the battery and put the battery back in. DS15 figured this out!! Seems to be a common problem with Samsung phones.

but seeing your girls watching lifeline in the rooms......oh boy.....thanks for this update

I have a Samsung phone that belonged to my sister originally. It's an older model (460?)but it works like a charm and it cost me nothing. Turns out it was rated very highly by consumer reports.

I originally had a samsung n200 and did not have a problem with it dropped it constantly ,battery always went under the van :) I had to purchase a new one because I "lost" the n200(read it died and fell behind the tv) so i figured I like samsung flips and got the n400 it locks up all the time and th eonly way to fix it is to take the battery off and put it back on which eats more of the life etc.... i do have a question for anyone who has the n400 does your car charger fall out of your phone all the time? would like some feed back on this one .I do love the ability to download stuff I have stitch as my screen save and treasure planet animated ringer which is too cool :) (I am such a kid)

Sorry to hear you had trouble. I used my Sprint phone all of the World both trips this summer. (My room had intermiten service). My sprint contract was the best offer anywhere. Maybe it's because I talk so much;)

I've had Sprint for about 7 years now. I've made at least 10 trips to WDW during that time and have never had a problem using my phone.

I think I'm on my 4th phone and can't remember what my others were but now have a Treo. It is great, and I can get my email and browse the web while away from my laptop.

I love Sprint as I travel a lot and it has worked every where for me except overseas and in parts of rural Arkansas.

We have 2000 anytime minutes shared by two phones with unlimited Internet access for $85 a month.

The only time I have gotten an "out of range" is inside some attractions, but that's ok with me as I should not be using my phone inside an attraction.

I have to say I love Sprint too! We're using 3 N400 Phones sharing a contract. Probably the smartest thing I did was get the service contract at Best Buy(I never get these!!). When DS15's phone started locking up 15-20 times a day and just brought it back and got a new one! The Best Buy rep said the locking is just this phone and has nothing to do with the Sprint service.

My rings with the Winnie the Pooh song,or the Lion King!! Gotta love these teenages who find free ringers!

Yep. We knew all about taking the battery out - we took it out a couple thousand times in a matter of a few hours, it became a real pain. If it weren't for knowing someone who works at our local Sprint store, I think I'd be looking for something elsewhere.

I've also had Sprint for several years and have made at least a couple trips a year to WDW. I've never had any trouble and have been pleased. I'm sorry you had a bad experience.
