Why split your stay b/t resorts?

I do it because I am a DVC member and the point costs for Friday and Saturday nights are outrageous, so I'll stay at another resort (my choice now is Pop Century) for a Saturday night and move to DVC on Sunday. It's pretty much painless because I am only one person and they'll move my heavy luggage for me.

I have one night at All Star Music in December because I'm staying with friends and they get in one day after I do. Music was all I could get at the time, otherwise I'd pick Pop Century.

May I ask you how many nights of dining you're getting and how many days your tickets are for??? We are planning a split stay in August 5 nights CSR and 5 nights BC. We'd love to do the dining but we were told we'd have to buy 2 sets of tickets, sending the price up of the tickets to where it's not worth it... :confused3 !!!
We are going 10 days over T'Giving and really wanted to do a split stay because we won't be going to Disney again for a long time and we want to try to get the most out of our time trying different things. We are also crossing seasons so, it made sense to split to a new ressie when the seasons changed to take advantage of the lower rate. We originally had room only AAA ressies for POR (regular) then moving to AKL (value) and couldn't get the dining. But then the Fall MYW package discount code came out and the discount was greater than the AAA AND we could get the dining but you are right, if you want to keep your split stay you need TWO packages meaning two sets of MYW theme park tickets. To keep the dining the whole trip, I considered getting a 10 day ticket for the first package and then a 1 day ticket for the second and saving it for a future trip. Like I said, we are not going to be doing Disney for several years so we decided it was either one resort or we give up the second package. We had our heart set on the split stay, so, we decided to to get the package with dining for 5 nights and then keep our room only at AKL for 4 nights. We are getting 10 day tickets on the package and the dining for 5 nights. One advantage is that you can use your dining credits right up to midnight the day you check out, so really, we will have the dining plan our first night at AKL but then the remaining nights everything is OOP. I am hoping we stuff ourselves so much the first 6 days, we won't have a problem eating a little lighter the last 4 days...hehehe...Sorry that was long winded. I hope it helped.

We've gotten hooked on splitting, because we get to choose two resorts instead of one! I always have a hard time choosing, so this is a huge plus for me!

Sometimes, we split just to be closer to MK/MGM area. Other times, it's so that we can save money (lower-priced resort/higher-priced resort). I've never found that the moving day is any more difficult than a non-park day. We usually pack our dirty clothes as we go, so that isn't an issue. Sometimes we head to a park for early entry that day and sometimes sleep in. I pack our non-essentials the night before we switch, making sure there is a small bag with swimsuits, etc. The next morning, I pack our nightclothes and the toiletries, check out and take a taxi to our new resort. This lets us have access to our luggage for the whole day, and we've never paid more than $13 + tip for the ride. Well worth it for the convenience, IMO. (We are usually a party of 2-3, if you have a large party & need a van, that would be a little more.)

When we get to our new resort, if there is a room ready, that's great! If not, we continue with our plans for the day, whether it be hanging at the resort for a nice lunch and a swim, or heading off to one of the parks. Just as we would do on our original check-in day. If we are checking into a resort that we've never stayed at before, this gives us time to really explore. My kids are now teens, though, so it's probably easier for us to go with the flow - no afternoon nap is more of an inconvenience for me than the kids, lol!

I do agree with the posters who say that 3 days at each resort is the minimum for a relaxing stay. We've done a 2/2 split, and we didn't get to enjoy either resort as much as we would have liked.

HTH! :wave2:

My DH and I are splitting on our next trip, we booked one night at Portofino at US to get the front of the line access, then moving to AKL for five nights. We are only planning one day at US/IOA so this works for us.

We did our first split stay in January and are planning another this coming February. For us, it's a combination of things - we like to try different resorts and their amenities and we like to make sure that our DD3 has fun too. So we stay part of the time at a monorail resort so getting to MK and EPCOT are easy. Then we stay at one of the further out resorts so that we can relax and enjoy ourselves. In January we started at AKL so that my stepdaughter, who had never been to WDW could see it and enjoy the animals and the pool. After she left (she's 25 and had to go back to work) we moved to Poly for the MK - EPCOT nexus. This time we are reversing that and starting at Poly and then going to AKL. DH loves Poly and and AKL and didn't want to try anything new. That's ok - in October we got down for a brief visit and stayed at YC, which neither of us had stayed at before.
