Why so mean?

I haven't been playing VMK long, a little less than a month. I'm 19, almost 20, but I started playing when my younger cousin asked for help with getting things. I play to help him finish quests or get items he can't, and to make sure that he has someone to play with when he wants.
So tonight I'm in the music room, and a girl says "who wants a teleporter?" and another girl replies "me" to which the first girl says that "not for free.." so, seeing as how my cousin would like a teleporter, i figured i'd ask what she wanted for them- "what would you want for a teleporter?" She walked over to me, said "shut up!" and left the room right from the spot. Um, what did I do? Maybe this isn't the kind of place where at 10 year old should be playing if you ask a simple question and get told to shut up.
I know I've seen worse (what is up with the whole taken/not taken thing?), and it's nothing to get upset over, and I'm not. It just doesn't make sense why some people would be mean in something Disney related, let alone a simple game.

Yes. It is the older kids and young teens that are the ones mainly making things unpleasant sometimes. Although I'm sure there are others too.

You learn to ignore them. In fact, there is an ignore button to use if necessary (tho I've never used it).

But, if you see things that are very inappropriate (violence, talking of sex acts, cussing, etc), defintely use the report button.

Some ppl are Older than the VMK Staff said it should be (like BriarPrincess),
Some VMK'ers go on VMK just to get banned, and have fun. But others are just plain rude! If they said something really hurtful (like "your ugly!" or a bad word report!)

I actually was thinking of reporting her, because it could have been my cousin she was talking to. But she left so quickly I didn't have a chance. But I remember her name (or at least part of it and what she was wearing ) that if I see her again, and she says something again, to anyone in the room really, I won't think twice and I'll just do it.

How can you possibly know how old someone is on VMK? I'm within that age range, and I have to say that not every kid those exact ages are exactly like that. I know that I am not. And possibly other kids aren't either. It really doesn't depend on the age either. It just depends how they are and their maturity .
Also from my past experience there are thousands of adults that are like that as well. When I was at WDW a few days ago and in the line for Big Thunder Mountain, I saw an adult hit their daughter - the daughter was possibly 4, 5? And kick her son in the foot. Possibly around 4 or 5 also. And then there was a baby, who she would yell at. I just dont understand. I felt so bad for those kids.

But when you have a large number of kids together like that, there's a higher likelihood that the people being rude are kids. I have five nieces, five nephews, and all but two are teenagers. I know exactly how kids in that age range and maturity level can be.

And of course adults can be rude and mean too, they're just not generally that randomly immature. I know I haven't told someone to "shut up loser" since I was about 13.

Well when I read this it feels like you are saying it from your past experience. Since you said, ' I know I haven't told someone to "shut up loser" since I was about 13.' But I still dont understand how you can exactly know how old these kids are that are saying this??

Like I said, since the majority of people on there are kids, and most adults wouldn't behave like that, it's pretty safe to assume that the people doing it are at least under the age of 18. Sure they could be adults, but chances are they aren't...

Well most like I said before - how do you know there are more kids than adults? How do you know there are more adults than kids? How do you know if there are the same amount? How and where are you getting this information?? I would assume possibly yeah, more kids than adults but you never know if its true or not. How could you possibly, just possibly know? I know that I dont have exact facts but just like you im assuming, I just dont know how you could actually know that, ' There are more kids than adults.' I also know that there are plently of people on dis who are adults playing VMK, also there are many bad adults playing VMK and acting like children. Once, this man acted like a kid, online and he met the girl kid in real life somewhere - and the girl got killed. You never know who they truly are, just never. Also, you should never believe people on VMK - you never know if they are telling the truth or not.

um... I really didn't mean to offend anyone. Seriously. I wasn't saying that you are rude because you are a kid. You seem to be taking what I said too seriously.

I'm going by the general... maturity level. And yes I know all about child predators. Like I said, I have lots of nieces and nephews, and I myself have a daughter. Also, I went to middle school. Those kids were brutal.

You're right about there being no way to tell. But most adults I know wouldn't act like how I've seen people on there act. A few times I've seen people telling their age to their "taken" partner and it's usually around 11-13, though that could just be the age group that is willing to risk telling people their age.

I should amend my original statement. When you have a lot of people with a low maturity level, no matter what age they may be, you're going to have some rude ones. Luckily, the mature friendly ones seem to outweigh the number of rude ones by quite a lot, and that makes VMK worthwhile. If everyone acted like the bad ones I have encountered, I would've quit the first week.

Speaking of rude people on vmk..

Well today I was just sitting in a room with my friend minding my own buisness when out of no where this person ( lets call him theblackspider) comes up to me and says i took his stitch hat and inferno. I was wearing my inferno and stitch hat and no i did not steal it from him. I looked at the screen a minute to make sure he was talking to me. Then I said excuse me? He then continued to reply that he had let me wear them for a moment and I ran off with them, so now he was going to report me. Ok now i was ticked, I assured him i did no such thing. I knew for a fact he was just another conartist who wants something free, I was just upset it was happening to me. I then reported him and the moment i did he started towards the door saying that he had the wrong person. Oh course i replied ok then.. Although I was very happy to see that I got a reply from staff notifying me I had nothing to worry about because I had done nothing wrong.
Also, about a week or so ago a few girls came into my room and began telling my best friend that she took their haunted mansion pants. My friend is so sensitive and so she really did take this seriously. We did report them for saying that she took the pants and for the girls reporting my friend for nothing. The girls then proceeded to say they got the wrong girl somebody else actually took them.

What is with people on vmk? Don't they realize this is just a game? Do they really want to make somebody upset just so they can get free stuff?

i got mad at my younger sister one time, she was going on my account and taking my stuff then coming on hers and being mean to me, at times i thought of reporting here, but i really dont want to because shes my sis and it would sound mean if i did. So we made a deal so now she doesn't go on mine anymore, its great! lol.

I've never really had any rare item before, but when I got one extra of the Pirate hat, I kinda changed my stripes. And I realized I did not like that change.

Let me start by saying: I was one of those people that could not get passed fireworks, but through practice I got better and now I'm scoring better than 170,000. So once I got my spare hat, where was the most ugliest and rudest place to go? The Fireworks game. Taking advantage of those unable to beat the game.

I ask if anyone needs a pirate hat, I get into a trade and he offers me all the POTC2 prizes (save the costume, of course). I ask if he has the 3rd pirate pin, he says no, so I say 'sorry' and cancel the trade.

For the first time in this game, I realize I had become the scummy person that I despised: those who had spares of rare items and were very picky about their trade.

Why am I so mean?

I have actually found it to be just the opposite. I rarely, if ever, say anything on VMK. Sometimes I just go sit in a public place and watch. I have found that the number of "you ugly" and other things like that, far outweigh any niceties. And I sit there often for hours. I mean, really, I will be sitting there not talking at all and someone will come up and say "you taken?" out of the blue, I never respond, and then there is the "hello?" and "Hey you!" and then of course "I hat you" always follows that. Always.

Hmm..you must be hanging out with the wrong people... sitting in a public place for hours will only bring more of those types of comments to you. I would only sit in a public place on vmk for hours, to do research. You need to hang out with more DIS folk.

I'm sorry to say - but that is their nature. They are most likely like that in life as well.

I'm glad you guys all understand. We should start a DisBoards guest room were if you use any mean words or ask if someone is taken, you have to donate an item to the group that is gifting items to new players (which I love the idea of!) or give up your disboard tag. Which would be worse?!?
