Why so hard to get DVC Apparel

We were at OKW last week and saw a few things with DVC on them. A polo shirt was selling for $39 and they also had a navy jacket which was in the $80 price range. They had several DVC mugs the first day but were sold out after that. The CM said that even the warehouse had sold out. Also being sold were some key chains, magnets and a cushie (or whatever it is called) to keep your soft drinks cold. All in all, not a whole lot. I'd love to see more and maybe something in a price range that is affordable...$39 for a polo shirt that cost probably $5 is a huge markup... ::MinnieMo

I have a very nice Navy (collar and sleeve ends have a navy and khaki design)DVC Members are Magical logo polo that I got at BWV last year. Iwent to Beach Club and they had the same ones in a few different colors. The funny part is that I really wanted the same quality polo that actually said BWV on it (my home resort). The only ones that said BWV were of a lesser quality, so I didn't get it. My son wanted a BWV shirt as well, but settled for a DVC t shirt. Don't get me wrong, I love my DVC shirt, but I would really like to see both DVC and resort specific wear. We are proud to be members and I wear my shirt all the time (there are a lot of people that think I am a CM when I am wearing it ;) ) and I agree that it is a great form of advertising for DVC. When I go this December, I will be looking for some BWV and DVC Christmas presents for myself :earsboy: !!!

Am I the only sad person here, or is there anyone else that visits each resort during a trip to see what merchandise they have in stock :rotfl2:

David :rolleyes1

I gave in and bought the $80 rain jacket. I had actually been looking for a rain jacket that zips in the front, but was not poncho looking. It was more than I would have spent at Eddie Bauer's but it was conservative looking with the mountain logo. I wore my red DVC had when we were down there (EBAY find) and noticed that I was the ONLY person wearing DVC stuff. In the whole resort, the parks everywhere. I kinda felt like too excited geek kid there for a while. ;)

We have not had a chance to go on a DVC vacation yet (coming in May '06) but I do know that everytime we go to WDW we always look for at least one item from the resort at which we are staying. We would definately purchase DVC items as well. :teeth:

DH & I have had this same conversation numerous times.

We would love to have more DVC member stuff. I did buy the hooded rain jacket at Vero Beach in January, when we were visiting my DSIL who lives nearby. I didn't see much DVC merchandise in the gift shops at WDW(we were there for a few days before going to DSIL's) so I was glad to find that at VB.

We just returned from our first DVC vacation and we too said the same thing, we really wanted to see more DVC merchandise.

I really wanted a watch but they only had a silver Skagen watch and I really did not like it.

The other logo stuff was not really that great and we only bought a couple luggage tags.

I looked all over for DVC pins and only could seem to find a Magic Kingdom one and MGM pin.

Overall, not a good selection at all for DVC merchandise.

I haven't read through all the response,s but my family and I just got back from OKW today, and we saw DVC merchandise in the gift shop (not resort-specific). There was a nice navy windbreaker for $80, khaki colored t-shirts with navy trim, navy visors and navy duffle bags with the DVC logo.

Hope that helps someone! :sunny:

That sounds encouraging! I hope that stuff is still available when we get down there in December/January! Were the DVC logos large or small? Did the jacket have it on the back or on the crest?

The windbreaker had the logo (small, embroidered, multi-colored) on the upper left chest area as I recall.

The navy visors and navy duffle bags had what appeared to be a silk-screened (?) logo in white.

The khaki shirt....oh my memory  ... I think it had the logo printed in navy but don't quote me on that.

Well, at least a non-resort specific logo is what I was wanting. Too bad it isn't the multi-color one, but hey, logo wear is logo wear! I like the fact that it isn't WHITE!

We just returned from BCV and received the post card to do a survey - lack of DVC merchandise was one of the comments I made. Hopefuly if they hear it enough, it will make a difference...

Back on our Disney cruise (using points) in 2001, DVC was doing sales promotion meetings on board. My wife and two children and I stopped at one and spoke to the CM, and he asked us if we'd come to a later meeting to "discuss our experiences" (a.k.a. be "exhibit A" of the wonderful world of membership, yada yada yada....)

When we said yes, he handed us four dark blue ball caps with the below logo on the front and "member" in white on the back. I'd never seen these before and have never subsequently seen anyone else with one. We still have them, and in fact we were stopped several times during our Boardwalk stay last month by other guests of that resort, all asking us "where did you get those?"

Do they have the logo with the three peaks or only two? The three peaks logo was discontinued years ago for some reason. My original DVC merchandise from '95 has the "three peaks", but I have not seen it lately.

Have the issues of DVC merchandise, a catalog or online store come up at any of the meetings, Q&As or forums with DVC execs present?

DVC used to publish a catalog of DVC logo merchadise. It was a mail order operation and carried a wide variety of things including all sorts of apparel, key chains, umbrellas, etc,- all emblazoned with the DVC logo. I still have a copy and have even posted scans of the pages here in the past (the photos are no longer on my website- so I can't post them at this time).

Unfortunately, the last catalog was issued in 1994 and was apparently discontinued due to lack of sales. I'd sure think there would be a MUCH larger market for such merchandise at this point in time - there are about 65,000 more members now. Maybe I can dig out that copy and upload the pages again- it's fun to look back at the prices!

BTW- the 3 mountain logo was down graded to 2 back in 1995 after VB opened. At one time, there was also a red sailboat in the logo along with the 3 mtns- that was pretty non-existant by 1994.

The caps I mentioned have the vintage three peaks logo. Thank heaven, because anything related to "twin peaks" freaks me out......
