Why so few October use years?

I'm about to take the leap and buy an OKW direct contract. I would like an October UY, as we will be traveling mostly Nov-May. I'm planning to get a BWV resale contract next year. I'm a bit worried because there seem to be so few October UY resale contracts! Why no love for the October UY, as opposed to December, which there are plenty of?!

I mean it's not that rare. It's not like September would be that big of a difference to you.

Why? Because I bought an Oct UY and my life always has to be difficult. Sorry. It's all my fault.

We hear you......Oct use year here as well and have some difficulty finding smaller resale contracts.

Another October use year here. Bought it with my first contract (resale) because it fit our travel pattern really well (we never go to WDW between the beginning of June and end of September). Obviously YMMV, but I have purchased 5 additional contracts all with October use year since then (both resale and direct) and never had trouble getting pretty much exactly what I was looking for.

If you buy a resale first, it's very easy to match UYs when buy later buy a direct. The other way around can be a long wait to get a matching UY with a contract size you desire.

Well, DVD set the UY for each unit when they first sold each resort, and I’ve never read any explanation for how they allocated them. However, several years ago they gave themselves the right to change UY when re-selling points they reacquired via foreclosure or ROFR. So if you can’t find what you want on the resale market, they’ll probably be happy to sell it to you direct!

And I think they figured out that it’s easy to sell December UY points because no matter when in a calendar year they sell them, they can claim the buyer is getting a whole year of points for free - e.g. in September 2021 they can say “Buy today, and we’ll throw in the 2020 points too!”
