Been watching the wait times and LL times in prep for us being in the parks from Aug 5-9th and today seems oddly busy, especially for DCA. Any ideas why or what could be going on?

At ~2pm Cali time:

Sorin' - 110min
Webslingers - 75min
Monsters, Inc - 75min
RSR - 135min
Ariel - 40min
Toy Story - 65min
Incredicoaster - Down

Autopia - 60min
Space Mtn - 80min
Small World - 55min
Mickey & Minnie RARR - 60min
Thunder Mtn - 65min
Pirates - 45min
Indy - 55min
Tiana - 85min
Star Wars ROTR - 85min

Thanks,
Brian

Single day ticket prices are down at $164, which is one of the lower prices during the whole month of July. This drives people to the parks compared to the frequent $180, $196, and $206 days throughout the month.

On your dates, single day ticket prices are $164, $164, $180, $180, and $196. I would expect the Thursday-Saturday to be your best crowd days, with the first two days having heavier crowds.

Also, your dates coincide with the first week the Enchant Key is unblocked after the summer (second lowest pass). Today's crowds are probably close to what you should expect your first two days, actually you should probably expect a bit heavier crowds with the additional key being unblocked. 8/9 will have the best crowds while you are there - the highest single day price plus the Enchant key will be blocked.

Interesting. I just got an email from Touring plans that they're decreasing the crowd level on every day of our trip August 2-7. I don't buy it other than Saturday and Sunday as those have been low for a while and Keys are still blocked. Thankfully, only Monday is a day we're worried about getting stuff in because it's our one day at California Adventure. We plan to rope drop though. Tuesday, wife and I will take it easy while our teens run around with all the lightning lanes. We're skipping Wednesday as just a rest/pool day. Thursday, we're only there till 1pm before we have to head to the airport.

Do you think TP is worth it for Disneyland? I've always used them for WDW but haven't heard great things about their version for DLR.

I think they're a good gauge on what things could be like but with DLR you really have to account for things like if the Keys are blocked. They don't really do that so I always take their crowd calendar with a grain of salt. I look more at what the single day ticket cost is and always plan to be there on Saturday and especially Sunday since that's the real sweet day to enjoy the parks. I also look at what they rated the same days that previous year. They did have today and Monday listed as 7s but I think the wait times would push that up more.

If you want to gauge their effectiveness, they have tomorrow as a 6, Thursday as a 5, and Friday as a 3.

It seems like longtime trends are changing at DLR and WDW. Especially at WDW, more people are skipping peak summer and going other times of the year instead. I assume this is because pricing and weather is at its worst during the summer. But it’s crazy to see a 20-minute wait midday at Tower of Terror during peak summer. RoR was 25-35 most of the day as well.

Meanwhile, at Disneyland, who the heck knows what’s going on. 55 minutes for Aerial? 40 for Poo? WTH? One thing I do know for certain is that some moron has found a quiet place in the park and is filming it for another ‘Disneyland is empty!’ TikTok.

SDCC?

I was thinking it might be the ticket price. Been diving into the lightning lane data on Thrill for the past month and they do seem to go quicker (park is busier) on the lower cost days. That and Early Entry seem to be factors.

Yes, I am a bit concerned with crowds that first week of August as well. My wife broke her ankle a week after we bought 70th anniversary tickets this spring so we are trying to give her as much time to recover and do PT before we go. We plan to be in the parks on Tues 8/5, Wed 8/6, Rest day 8/7, Fri 8/8 and Sat 8/9. I am halfway thinking of moving the rest day up to Wed to avoid the other $165 day but not sure. I was hopeful that the $142 and $104 price dips later in August cause the crowds to delay a bit. 🤷‍♂️

Thanks,
Brian

Yesterday was insanely busy. So glad we got so much done on our first two days. We rode 22 rides between both parks on Sunday (with a five hour break) and we left the parks around 10:30pm. LLMP was a godsend for those first two days but yesterday would have been impossible to utilize LLMP if trying to book anything after around 11am. I will try and post a trip report later on (at the airport currently) as I had great success at stacking rides our first two days.

Thanks @Wilcojoe I look forward to reading the report.

It is 10am now on 7/23 and the wait times aren't crazy (yet) in either park but the LLMP for Gradians is sold out and Sorin' its 9pm. Maybe fewer LLMP because of the reduced capacity on those two rides?

165 MINS???? That’s like half the day in the parks!!!

Ticket prices today are back to $180. Watch - crowds will be substantially lower than yesterday.

There is no mystery to it. The hard and fast data for several years shows that the higher the ticket prices the lower the crowds. Disney intentionally designed the system this way.
