First let me say I'm not trying to step on anyone toes here, but I am very curious about people attitudes when it come to Disney, DVC and what they expect.
I'm not a DVC member, but I have noticed if the words *WELCOME HOME* is not spoken by a cm some DVC members consider their trip to be ruined and the*MAGIC* is lost because of this. Isn't this expecting to much .
Are DVC members considered more important than Non DVC members. Are they entitled to better treatment.
I also noticed how people become upset with others because they don't like this DVC RESORT or compare it to a non DVC RESort why is this?
Also what is this *MAGIC* and *PIXIE DUST* that people feel at Disney, and how can a rude cm or anyone for that fact take it away. I'm curious because I have visited Disney, stayed onsite and got what I paid for nothing more nothing less.

When I go on vacation am I selling myself short by *NOT*expecting towel animals, magic and pixie dust (WHICH I DON'T BELIEVE IN BTW) ect...
I thought I was entitled to what I paid for and nothing more. I never expect the cm's to roll over backwards for me nor do I expect them to be at my every beck and call.
Other stuff seem so minor and trivial to me, but I do want to know
if I'm missing something and if so please enlighten me::MinnieMo

Don't worry. I'm sure there are plenty who will enlighten you.

Personally, I agree with you.

Gosh I'm always told welcome home by the guard at the Poly and I'm not even a DVC member!

Thats nice Skiwee:D

You say that you're not a DVC member and that probably explains your confusion. To many of us, DVC is like a family. And as a family, we kid each other about a lot of things. Things like our DVC resort is better than your DVC resort, or I got three 'Welcome Homes' when we checked in. It's all good fun. No one really thinks their vacation is ruined if they don't get a 'welcome home'. I think you'll find that as a group DVC members are less concerned about everything being perfect than other guests might.

Someone who's making a once in a lifetime trip to WDW, spending thousands of dollars for travel, lodging, meals, and tickets, might expect a lot. Maybe a lot more than they should. But DVC members know they'll be going back again next year, and the next year, and the next. We know every trip won't be magical. It does rain at times, it does get cold, not all CM's are the same.

I think you're putting more into it than there really is. Wishing someone Magic and Pixie Dust are simply ways to say have a great trip. It doesn't mean they should expect to get a towel animal. It simply means that hopefully their flights, or drive to WDW will go smooth, the weather will be good, and they'll have a great time.

BTW, I'm sure you understand that DVC resorts are 'home away from home' resorts. They are not hotel rooms but fully equiped condominium type vacation homes. A 'welcome home' seems appropriate with the intent of the program and the way Disney presents DVC in their sales. If someone gave me a 'welcome home' when I checked into a regular hotel room, I'd be insulted. I do not consider a hotel room a home.

Now of course, I won't argue that there are exceptions to everything and everyone, both some DVC members and some regular WDW guests. Some people just think they're king of the world. But for the most part these type of people are few and far between. Don't confuse some good natured kidding among members with that small minority of sourpusses you'll find in any population.

And may you receive lots of pixie dust on your next WDW vacation.:teeth:

Well thank you Caskbill, but unfortunately my 15 and 10 yr old are burned out on Disney so it's US/IOA this year

We have gone to WL several times and there is one guard, brain freeze on name right now, that always says welcome home to us-the kids love it. We are not DVC members either.

Caskbill,
We were welcomed home and we are not DVC members. It was nice that the CMs remembered us and even if it is only a hotel room it still home away from home, we are after all living there for the week. We stay at POR each time we go, and I see no reason to spend a lot of money on a room that we are not going to be using very much JMO. Sorry you would feel insulted if a CM welcomed you home and it was only a hotel room, but atleast they remembered you out of all the millions of people they see every day.

I am not a DVC member but that doesn't mean that going back to Disney doesn't feel like going "home". :D It is a place where the worlds of reality and make believe are a little blurred....a place where your heart skips a beat, no matter how old you are, when you see Mickey for the first time...a place where parents can act like kids and no one thinks there is anything wrong with it.....a place where brothers and sister honestly LIKE each other....:lovestruc

We always stay at Fort Wilderness. As you check in, there is a sign that says "Welcome Home". That's EXACTLY what it feels like!!! :bounce:

Not to mention the first time you round the corner on Main Street and see the castle for the first time....or the second time.....or the hundredth time!

Well said Colleen!

Maybe it's just me, but stuff like that doesn't matter to me at all because as I said before I go on vacation to enjoy myself and my family while not expecting cm's to roll over backwards as some do. I'm not saying you or all DVC members do, but I have seen a self entitlement about what Disney should do for people when they vacation there.

IMHO, it's not just DVC people who have this mentality. They come from all walks of life.

I don't like when people lump a particular group together that way.

I think the magic is what YOU make of it with those who are going on your trip with you. I really don't expect castmembers to do anything "magical" for me. If the magic happens, then that is just what it is MAGICAL. I think if you go in with too many expectations you will be extremely disappointed. I do expect a clean room, food that is decent etc. The last time we even got our room request at the Poly so that was magical. ONE castmember took the time to talk to my ds, that was magical., ONE cm server was overly patient with our family etc. No we did not get one towel animal, have NEVER gotten an upgrade nor expected or asked for it etc. I can't see paying alot of money for the magic to happen anyway. I have written posts with comments about the high prices disney expects a family of 5 to pay for with very few options. We are now getting to stay at the swan for ALOT less than a deluxe and about the same prices as 2 value rooms. The amenity options sold us on it. I will put up with the less than disney feel of the hotel and the non charging in the parks to the room for the ton of money we are saving. I guess with college around the corner for the 3 ds, my new philosophy is to make more magic for a whole lot less money.

I don't expect CMs to go out their way for me, but when it happens, it's magic. I don't expect towel animals, but if it happens, it'll be magic. I don't expect an upgrade, but when it happened, it was magic. I am staying at the Dolphin my next trip, when I stay, it will be magic.

Some get it, some don't, and that's okay.

BTW, I am a DVC owner, I love to hear "Welcome Home", but it won't ruin my trip if I don't hear. However, that has never happened to me.

I think you made a wise decision for this year and all future years, IMO.

Your "tag" says it all -- if you like Universal better, stick with it and leave WDW to those of us who never tire of it...

The "magic" of Disney is a feeling....not a towel animal (we bring our camper and never have even seen one of these creatures!!), not someone saying "Welcome Home".....if you 'get' it, you understand. If you don't, well I feel sorry for you to miss out on such a wonderful emotion!! :bounce:

FOJMO there is no need to act immature about what I posted. Since this a message board where we can ask questions ect... I find nothing wrong with my post.

One thing I do find interesting is that when someone says something negative about DISney your type rears its ugly head with all the sarcasm and rolleyes. Very immature don't you think.

I don't know if this is in response to something I said but if so let me just say that non of this is a big deal to me. Whatever feeling people receive when they get something special at disney like an upgrade/towel animal/welcome home ect... thats great whatever floats your boat.

I think I get what you're saying and I agree. Some people come back from their trip with notes about what was wrong with it and then actually post a list here telling the world.:( I don't get it. I do think Disney has a special feeling to it and that's why we keep going back. However, I don't expect any special treatment EVER and am always surprised and appreciative if/when it does happen.

Have fun at Universal. We love it, too!
