Quick question here. The savannah view is much much much more expensive than a regular standard view at AKL. Since they have a sorta balconey overlooking the savannah anyway what is the point of paying $200+ dollars a night extra for something you just walk 100 yards more to see for free?

Well, I booked a pool view because it was only $20 more per night than standard. I couldn't justify the extra $$$ to book savannah. If codes come out, then I do think it will be worth the little extra difference it will be then.

You are right, there are quite a few nice spots to sit and view the animals. However, an animal lover like me couldn't get enough of seeing three male giraffes frolick right under my window! I got up in the middle of the night for a drink, and ended up watching the cattle, and other animals raoming around in the "moonlight" for about an hour!

If you don't get a view, make sure you use the savannah lookout by the pool. We saw a ton of animals here (while enjoying a Pina Coloda!)

I will not stay at AKL unless I have a Savannah view. Being able to walk out on my balcony and see the animals is worth a lot to me. I also won't stay there unless I get a discount. I won't pay full price for Disney Deluxe resorts.

I am very much in the minority, but I prefer the pool view. The pool is beautiful! Of course, I'm not really an animal lover (I hope nobody freaks out on me - I like animals, but they are not the main draw for me to this resort.) The public viewing areas are great and I always feel like I'm "wasting" vacation time if I'm sitting in the room - even if I have a great view. My mom used to fuss at us for "wasting" pretty weather outside and to this day I feel kind of quilty being inside when I could be outside.!:p

To be able to wake up and walk out to your balcony and see the animals really transports you to another world. You forget about the parks and the hectic touring plans and are quite tempted to stay and relax and just watch the animals. Personally, I love the atmosphere that this allows. I would not stay at the AKL without a savannah view

To me the whole point of staying at the AKL is having a Savannah view. It is way different to wake up, have coffee on the balconey without having to get dressed up, and sit comfortably watching the animals. We ended up leaving the parks to go back to the room. While the resort is great and the room decore awesome not having a savannah view room, to me....well... you might as well stay at the All Stars or a moderate and just run over to the AKL for a couple hours.

Last March when we took my then 3 year old grandson on his first visit to Disney we splurged and went with a Savannah view room/Concierge and never, never, never will I regret that choice. Not only did my grandson spend loads of time on the balcony enjoying the animals, but the Sunrise Safari was just so awesome for all of us. Yes, there are a lot of places in the hotel to view the animals, but it is so cool to just get up and go out to your own balcony whenever you want...to me, and this is just my very humble opinion...it was worth the extra money. I guess it all depends on your priorities during your stay at Disney...

....who hate hanging around my hotel room. I just feel like I'm wastin' my vacation! I can honestly say when we stay in a hotel,we don't even open the blinds!! If it weren't for housekeeping staff, they would be drawn close the whole time.

We stayed Sav. view last March, and it was awesome!!!!! It made us fall in love with this resort!! However, we love the whole thing, so would sleep in the lobby to be here!!:D

We have booked pool view this year (AP rate) but sav. view is great, especially when you come back to your resort in the evening, the animals are out and you feel like you are somewhere in Africa on a safari!! They do have many places to see the animals outside of your room, so if you just feel like the expense is too much, you will not be disappointed, but the sav. view is worth it, IMO.

Keep in mind, you will want to draw the drapes any time you are undressing, as there are cameras everywhere to keep an eye on the animals!!

Why a savannah room? Because I can jump off my bed when I hear MOOOOOOOOOO and see what is going on at 1am, because I can watch the mist slowly rise and giraffes show up at 6am over a cup of coffee in my robe and slippers (obviously the giraffes aren't drinking the coffee, I am! LOL), because I can come back to the park to rest my feet and change, and forget that I wanted to go anywhere else! Sure you can see the animals from some very nice viewing spots, but nothing beats your own private savannah just a doorwall away!

Why a Savannah view room?? Well for one thing first thing in the morning or late at night when I am in my pajamas I can stand on my balcony and look at the animals while I am wearing my pajamas without taking the long walk down to another viewing location and having people look at me in my pj's.... :) I guess you really have try have stayed in a Savannah view room to understand how awesome it is to be able to view the animals from your own private balcony. As another poster stated, I wouldn't stay there if I couldn't have a Savannah view room!!! It is breath taking!!!! :)

Having stayed at AKL twice in Savannah view rooms, I can attest to how wonderful it was to stand outside on the balcony and watch the animals at all hours day or night. My children loved this unique Hotel! If this is your first visit to AKL please splurge for the Savannah view. You will not regret it. You will however have many new stories and memoried. By the way, we were there CHristmas Day 2002 when a baby cattle was born. My kids still talk about how attentive the mother was and how beautiful it was to watch this amazing sight! Having said all that, once you have stayed at AKL in Savannah view, the uniqueness wears off. Since I have done the Savannah view twice, the next time I stay at AKL will be in a standard view room. There are such wonderful public viewing areas everywhere in the hotel and of course at Arusha rock.

it was that we got the savannah room for 170/night or something like that in value season. We've spent close 120 or so a night in regular hotels and had nothing out our window look at. We spent hours on that balcony watching those animals. Yes we used the public viewing areas too, but that savannah balancony really makes it really special. Now if we were paying regular season rates I might think twice about it. But there's just something special about akl that you can't get anywhere else.
