Why only one real bed in the Villas (studio and 1 bedroom)?

My wife and I came very close to pulling the trigger on the DVC, when we realized the bed situation. Then we walked away.

We have two teenage kids who can't sleep together. When we stay at The Boardwalk, one sleeps in a bed, and the other on the sleeper sofa.

This simply can't be done in the Villas unless you get a two bedroom (which is not financially reasonable for us). I suppose you could have a cot brought in--but it doesn't seem like the luxury vacation we're paying for to make a kid sleep on a cot.

I have to imagine there are many other families who view this a deal breaker.

It was a strategic decision to differentiate the small villas from resort rooms.

Old Key West studios have two queen beds.

Your situation suggests that 1BR units are realistically your best DVC option. Several resorts offer 1BR units with a king bedroom, sofa bed, and a sleeper chair.

Thank you for the reply! I'll take a look at which resorts have that layout. We were hoping to make Beach Club our home resort, but...maybe there is a better option.

I never slept in the sleeper chairs myself but we did a trip where 3 teens took turns between pullout or sleeper chairs and none of them complained that it was uncomfortable.

At WDW, OKW, AKV and BLT offer the pull out chair in addition to the pull out couch in the living room of a one bedroom with a king bed in the bedroom.

PVB, VGF, BWV and soon to be completed remodel of BCV offers a murphy bed (bunk bed size), queen bed and pull out couch in the studios. PVB also had connecting studios.

My sister has slept in a sleeper chair in BLT, a treehouse at SSR and AKV, and she has had no complaints.

Ok, great feedback! I wonder if the BCV remodel would be open by the time we go in November. We really want to try BCV, and the studio would be very cost effective.

You would not be able to have a cot brought in, that is only for hotel rooms, not DVC rooms, you could bring in your own air mattress though.

Totally agree with you. Which is why we went to Disney World for years before we bought DVC. We saw no advantage until we could afford the 2 bedrooms villas.

I will say the sleeper chair at Kidani looked more comfortable than the sofa bed.

As with most things in life, luxury comes at a cost.

I would agree that most Studios + 1Bs really aren't equipped for 4-5 guests. If you want luxury, you're probably going to cap a Studio at 2 guests and a One Bedroom at 2-3 (one child on sofa bed.) For 4+ guests, a Two Bedroom would be the best fit.

Redesigns and remodels have left guests with more options in recent years. As noted, Murphy Beds and sleeper chairs have added beds to several resorts. But in the end, it's all about striking a balance between what owners can afford and their personal comfort level.

Well, bummer. I got all excited about the prospect of a Beach Club villa renovated studio with a queen, sleeper sofa, and murphy bed.

But I was then informed that there was no way to know for sure I was assigned to a renovated one until we checked in. Can't take that chance.

The luxury we'll "settle" for will be the Beach Club Garden view (for 7 days instead of 10).

Note: I know even with those rooms, it's not 100% that you get the sleeper sofa--but it's always been a safe bet.

Once the rehab is completed at BCV, all the studios will have the Murphy bed. Perhaps you can give it a try next year.

Consider giving the BWV a try - its rehab will be done by November and it has the same great EPCOT area location.

Whoa! Wha? So ALL of the BWV studios will have a murphy bed by November??? Oh...that could work.

Note: We LOVED staying at Boardwalk. The only complaint is that the kids had major "pool envy" over the Beach Club.

Here is where the resorts stand in relation to five sleeping spaces in a single room and thus with four guests, two can split up:

The following 1BRs have a king in the bedroom, a pull-out queen sleeper sofa and a pull-out twin sized chair in the living room: OKW, BLT, and AKV (except for the small number of "value" rooms at AKV Jambo which do not have the chair; those value rooms are significantly smaller than any other DVC rooms). At AKV Kidani and BLT, those 1BRs also have a second bathroom.

The VGF 1Brs also have 5 sleeping spaces but the fifth iis a pull down murphy bed from the cabinet below the living room TV rather than the sleeper chair.

The following studios have five sleeping spaces with a queen bed, pull out couch and that murphy bed in the cabinet below the TV: Poly, VGF, and VWL. BWV is getting the same studio arangement and that is almost complete -- the estimated completion date of the resort rehab is August but that includes a lot of outside work such as painting the outside; the rooms are actually almost complete and should be done in the next few months. In other words by Nov when you want to go, all BWV studios will have sleeping spaces for five.

BCV is currently undergoing a rehab, which will result in all studios having sleeping spaces for five with the murphy bed arrangement, but it started just earlier this year and is likely to be going on most of the year and possibly longer.

I'm wondering if anyone can report on how comfortable the sleeper chair is.

My 6'1" son thought it was okay. Not great, but okay. We had a boys' weekend away at OKW for Easter Week last year. The two highlights of the trip? Scoring a Nissan 370Z on the Emerald Aisle as a rental, and our golf lessons we took mid-week.

This is our rule of thumb. For my wife and I (or the two of us plus one kid) we can do a 1BR. If all four of us are traveling, a 2BR is the minimum size we will consider.
