Why don't you push your vacation during a different month. Maybe go in September after graduation and the whole vacation mob of people for June, July, and August? JMO
You hafta think about where the best memories will be made for you - you can make a big day of it and celebrate it YOUR way in the World, or you can go to the ceremony and have pictures taken. Graduation ceremonies, IMO, tend to be a big show for the parents and loved ones of the ones who are actually graduating, and I am sure that your kids especially would rather spend that day having fun in Florida.
I was also going to suggest looking online or on Ebay for a set of Mickey Ears with a mortarboard or something else you could wear, and when you make dining reservations make sure to let them know that you are celebrating!!! Order a cake or do a Wishes cruise - these are things that you, and your kids, in the long run, will probably remember more than a long, dull graduation ceremony.
Whatever you decide, HAVE FUN AND CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!
skip graduation, rent a cap and gown the are the same colors and have pictures taken, or if you go to a photo studio for pictures, they normally have cap and gowns in colors of local school for photos to be taken in.
Another GREAT idea--I already have the Graduation cap with Mickey ears--I got it this past May in anticipation of my graduation! Its going to be VERY valuable to me in May now!!!

Nine days are simply too many to miss, much less 14! IMHO.
14 days is DEFINITELY too much for me too, even if we get his homework. That's why September is also out (thanks to LoriMistress for that idea though). Those 14 days would be ACTUAL school days. When I say 9 days, I guess I really mean 5 because it is the VERY end of school. He will miss 5 actual school days but the next week when they go back, it is only 4 days: they clean out their desk and clean up the classroom one day, they have their school carnival the next day, they have their "end of school" recognition ceremony the next day (and only go 1/2 a day) and then the last day they go to school for Mass and get their repot card. We've chosen the end of May in recent years because he REALLY does not miss that much. We've never gone the week BEFORE his last week though. That was special this year because of my graduation.
Definitely ditch graduation!!! I skipped my college graduation to stay home and watch a ballgame. To each his own, though. Ceremonies aren't my cup of tea.
I understand your point. Like I said, I'm not really into the ceremony of it--I just want to wear that cap and gown! I don't know why it is so important to me--I guess because this Masters degree has been such a long, difficult road. I have contacted the school to see if I can rent the cap/gown early so I can get pictures taken. I will actually get my diploma in the mail sometime after January 22, so I will already have that!
Miss the graduation. You have already said that you would rather not attend but just want your picture in the cap and gown. If your vacation is already set, go and have fun. The vacation memories will last a lot longer than a graduation ceremony would.
FYI, I didn't attend my college graduation either. I was originally supposed to get an Associates degree, but the college changed that and I wound up graduating with a college diploma instead (not by my choice). Since I already have a diploma from there (prior to them becoming accredited), I opted to skip it. I really didn't want to hear all the ceremonial jibber jabber.

EDIT TO ADD: We don't buy the caps/gowns--we have to RENT them from the school. I thought about getting mine as early as possible, getting a picture taken and then moving on down the road. BUT I don't know how EARLY we can get them!! WHY OH WHY????
Another vote to skip, based on my vast desire to plan your life. Since you have to rent, may I suggest photoshop. Get a great pic of one of your friends at graduation, and photoshop your face (and mickey ears if need be) for a great and memorable keepsake. Then you have your cake...etc...
No question for me. I'd skip graduation. I only walked at my undergrad ceremony for my parents and grandparents. Those things are boring and take way to long anyway.
