Bonsai!

So I started an update over an hour ago and ended up deleting it. UGGGGHHHHH! I hate when that happens because I really wanted to do one today. I am busy the rest of the week.

I had started to write a mini TR on our most recent timeshare trip to Williamsburg. But I can never get that done tonight so its back to our regularly scheduled TR!

But first - some news - My bro and SIL paid for their train tickets so now it is official. I even decided to have Nick take the train back with them. He was Ok with it. Right now his coach seat is the same price as a mid day flight (or similar) and this way I don't have to worry about him getting a ride home from the airport. So its done - he's taking the train.

My SIL also wants to do the QS dining plan. I don't think its a money saver, but logistically it makes sense. So I will be trying to maximize the value of that plan. If anyone has favorite CS suggestions, fire away. I am thinking we can try the Pepper Market one night since we can drive. I'm also thinking Sunshine Seasons and Wolfgang Pucks.

So Back to where I left off.

I think we had just arrived HERE.....

IMG_1972.jpg

We decided to go in and look around.

I love watching the pearl girls.

IMG_1978.jpg

They are all so cute and so enthusiastic

IMG_1976.jpg

See what I mean

IMG_1983.jpg

I think she got twins, but obviously I will never know for sure since my picture didn't turn out.

IMG_1985.jpg

We walked around for awhile and Nick quickly developed a fascination with the Bonsai trees. In the store they had seed kits for $5 and mini Bonsai trees for $15. I encouraged him to buy one, but he declined. That is, until we got outside.

Then he decided he wanted to see kit. I handed him $20 and told him to get the tiny established bonsai. He headed back inside.

Denny and I watched the drummers

IMG_1991.jpg

IMG_1993.jpg

IMG_1994.jpg

I actually never spent this much time watching the drummers and I found it rather mesmerizing.

IMG_1996.jpg

It also looked like a pretty darn good workout.

You go girls!

IMG_1997.jpg

IMG_2005.jpg

Nicholas finally came outside and can you guess which Bonsai he purchased?

If you guessed the seed.....................................................................................................................................

You are CORRECT!

For some reason he wanted the challenge of growing his own Bonsai.

The first seed rotted - probably because he overwatered, I mean flooded, the seed.

The second seed grew but it looks nothing like a Bonsai. Sure - I realize that Bonsai is a technique, but I don't think the seed from a regular old oak tree is going to turn into a Bonsai.

So what does that Bonsai look like now. See for yourself

f7485d10.jpg

Yup - Not a Bonsai!

In addition to the glass mickey head I am also buying a mini Bonsai tree in June.

From China we continued to loop around the showcase.

Oh wait - sidetrack

Here is a picture of Kismet I took the other day while she was hiding in a big paper bag

And here's Max making himself way to comfortable on my bagallini as I was getting ready to leave for work.

What the heck kind of musical instrument is that red thing with the black dots? :confused3 It doesn't look like any musical instrument I've ever seen before.

IMG_2030.jpg

I think this is the first time I didn't take pictures of the fountains in France.

Moving on

IMG_2031.jpg

Such a gorgeous afternoon! It was so sad to know that our time in the world was quickly coming to an end.

IMG_2032.jpg

IMG_2033.jpg

Dum Dum Dum........ The dreaded red phone booth

IMG_2034.jpg

Why you ask?

Well, what happened here was weird and totally unexpected.

I pulled out my cell and started dialing the numbers. I did get someone to answer one of the phones and we had a short conversation, but he was a young kid and he hung up fast.

I sent Nick into the middle booth and I tried to call it. We learned that I could hear him but he couldn't hear me.

Then I walked in the booth and while I was there the first booth rang. So I picked it up and said hello. I started to laugh, assuming that the person on the other end had to be standing within my sight. I asked them where they were and they said "New Jersey". My response was "Yeah right. Where are you Really?"

And their response, "Are you drunk? You must be drunk? Why are you laughing like that if you're not drunk?"

My response, "You think I'm drunk? I'm not the one calling Epcot from New Jersey!"

I'm sure there were more words exchanged, but I can't remember what. All I know is that the conversation was taking a turn for the unpleasant.

And with that I hung up.

I actually felt a little shaken as I walked away. I mean REALLY?????? I was calling those booths to wish people a Happy Holiday and here was someone calling me to say I sounded drunk?

I couldn't wait to high tail it out of England.

When we hit the end of the world showcase we basically decided it was time to leave the world showcase and the world. We still had a little more time to kill before we had to return out rental car. But we were done.

On the way out I got this great idea to take a ride through Celebration, Florida. I have always wanted to see the town. We found it pretty easily.

Unfortunately, I did not have the forethought to change my lens so I was actually using the distance lens. Bottom line - these pics are not that great, but here they are.

Celebration, Florida

IMG_2048.jpg

IMG_2050.jpg

IMG_2052.jpg

We passed the elementary school

IMG_2053.jpg

IMG_2055.jpg

IMG_2059.jpg

One of the main streets was closed for a Christmas festival they were having in the evenings

IMG_2061.jpg

I was hoping we might find a place to park and walk around for a few minutes, but it was pretty obvious that wasn't going to happen.

3:30pm. I think our flight left around 5:45, so it was time to hightail it out of there.

IMG_2065.jpg

IMG_2066.jpg

IMG_2071.jpg

The houses in Celebration were not at all what is typical in central Florida. I loved the cape cods and colonials. It was such a pretty town and I do intend to go back when I can actually park and walk around.

But for now it was off to the airport to gas up and return the rental car.

Denny actually got off the highway to get gas and ended up driving in the opposite direction of the airport. That was another $2.00 in tolls. Sheesh.

We had an easy trip through security and shocking - no flight delays!

Good night and Good bye Orlando

IMG_2077.jpg

Our luggage - literally - that's our gray suitcase on the top!

IMG_2080.jpg

Our plane

IMG_2083.jpg

IMG_2089.jpg

Our flight back to Baltimore was uneventful. Our ride home was uneventful. When we did get home it was immediately obvious that Brian was home from school. We found tell tale signs of a party weekend. I won't go into the details but it wasn't the best ending to a trip.

So that's it folks.

Up Next - My mini Williamsburg trip, final thoughts, trip review, firsts and favorites.

It aint over yet!

YAY that your brother's family is committed to goind now! You will have fun showing them around for sure!

CS _ in DHS, we love the Studio Catering menu - good combo of burgers and healthy choices (wraps and non-fried sandwiches) that are yummy (but skip the apple sauce on the kids menu, its nasty, and is across the world - they use an all natural unsweetened apple sauce that tastes like they made it from Granny Smith apples and added NO sugar at all)

Another CS that is often overlooked at a resort is the Roaring Forks at WLR. not sure why you'd go to a resort just for a TS but they do have some really good options.

One plus to the QS plan for your nephews is that the DP only tracks numbers of CS meals left, not per adult and per child. the result is that kids do not HAVE to order off of the kids menu for the CS - and the meal plan cost is the same either way. We found last trip when Katie was 7 that she was 50/50 ordering sometimes off the kids' menu and sometimes off of the adult menu. It was nice for her to have the wider options.

We've never managed to see th drummers in Japan. one day...

You kitties are cute :goodvibes:goodvibes

Is it my imagination or does this violin player look like Bill Clinton?

IMG_2010.jpg
freaky! yes, yes he does!
Great photos again Mary Ellen! Love the "artsy" shots.

Celebration looks very cute and very New England -ish.

too bad you had a party aftermath to deal with at home but you had a nice wrap up till that:scared1:

I love the pictures around World Showcase! Beautiful :thumbsup2

:yay: for the extended family "officially" joining you! The QSP should work well since there are so many choices. The only place I don't like their QS offerings is DHS. I'd probably just snack there and take the boat over to Epcot or BW to eat.

Question! - those of you who have gone in October might be able to help me. We want to eat dinner at Ohana and go to the beach at Poly to watch fireworks. If it's a MNSSHP night, will they still pipe in the music for Hallowishes? I hope someone around here knows. Thanks!!!

YES they do :thumbsup2

i love that red dress!

I love it too.

Love AA - Always bring a tear to my eye. Sorry you did not have more time in Celebration.

:cool1: That your brother and his family FINALLY got on board.

Ugh on the findings when you got home, that is such a drag.

Adorable that Nick wanted a bonsai but seriously, I'd call WDW, that is definitely not a bonsai seed and you should get your money back!

Wierd experience on the call. I will say, having called Epcot from Oregon once, it's a little weird, you aren't sure what to say when you actually get someone on the phone.

Gorgeous pics, I especially like the drummer shots and the france painting (which totally makes me think of Tracy's picture as well!).

QSP. Ugh. I think that plan is a rip off for what you get, it's not that much less than the regular DDP and unless you are at a resort with a food court, a little challenging. Doesn't help that I'm pretty anti food courts as a general rule (the rare person who does not care for Sunshine Seasons at all) lol! But it does depend on the family and their eating style/needs and might be perfect for your SIL's family.

That said, our favorite quick serve places are: The bakery in France, Hurricane Hannahs (don't have to be a resort guest), Tangerine Cafe, Columbia Harbor House, Yak & Yeti Local Foods, Roaring Forks, Boardwalk Bakery, WPE, Starring Rolls, Toluca Turkey Legs, ABC Commissary. We find those enough to fill out lunch, and I'm sure breakfasts but I'd struggle with it for all meals, CS isn't my idea of dinner. Given your group and the fact that you are at a treehouse, making dinner or breakfast might be a good idea. Not sure if you've thought of that or not. I just think you might get more bang for the buck that way with your TIW as you won't be that close to the soda refill for those mugs.

Kids have liked Cosmic Rays but I wasn't overwhelmed. None of us were overwhelmed by Sunshine Seasons but like myself, the rest aren't really food court folks either.

Since you have a car, you may want to look at the new food court at Art of Animation as well. The menu sounds incredible, one I even want to check out! Honestly I wouldn't mind hopping over there in Oct to see it. We don't have time with our two days this summer or I'd slot it in while we have the car.

This summer we plan to try the Mara, very excited about that one and others on our list that we've yet to try are Pecos Bills, Flame Tree, Fairfax Faire and Picnic in the Park. I hope to hit either picnic in the park or flame tree this summer, in addition to the Mara.

I've heard rave reviews on Earl of Sandwich, and Pecos Bill is one of our favorites for the taco salads. They have a wonderful topping bar with mushrooms, sautéed onions, nacho cheese, along with all the usuals. The flatbreads at SSR are wonderful too.

Your kitties are so cute :goodvibes:

You're right, that doesn't look like a bonsai.

Celebration is beautiful! I need to check it out one of these days.

I can't believe the trip is over. Thank you for sharing all your adventures, very fun following along. :)

I'm sorry it was not the best homecoming, I'm sure that was frustrating.

So that's it folks.

It aint over yet!

I'm sorry you came home to that. My brother used to have parties when we were away (Usually to WDW!) but the house would at least be spotless when we got home. Is it any wonder he never wanted to come with us?

Can't wait to hear about your Williamsburg trip and then it won't be too long until your June trip!

Excellent update! (Well, most of it.)
Love your kitties :lovestruc Kismet has a really precious face!
Sorry about your odd experience in the phone booth. :confused3 Perhaps the person calling was actually the drunk one?
That bonsai tree is... leafy!
The pictures around France are gorgeous! Very artistic and well composed :goodvibes
Celebration sure is pretty.
Sorry you didn't have the best welcome home :sad1:
I can't believe it's over! What a great trip! Can't wait for the next one! :thumbsup2

A last lap around the World Showcase really is a great way to close out a Disney trip! Nick's bonsai tree definitely doesn't look like one I've ever seen, but it does look like a cute plant!

Celebration looks like such a nice town!

Sorry to see the Disney portion of your TR come to an end, but can't wait to hear about your recent trip next! :goodvibes

Great update!

Ugh, sorry the bonsai tree didn't work out! :sad2:

Your kitties are adorable!

I love all of your World Showcase pictures, they actually look like they are from other countries! :woohoo:

Celebration looks like such a cute little town, I'd love to check it out someday on a longer trip!

Sorry about the annoying homecoming, that's not a pleasant way to end a trip!

Can't wait for the Williamsburg TR and final thoughts and everything! :yay:

Oh no back to BWI! Love the tour of Celebration. I have often thought of turning in my lovely brick colonial in scenic Anne Arundel county for a wonderful home in Celebration. So thanks for giving me a sight into my future :rotfl2:

Back to you - glad your family has made travel plans. Lots of yummy CS in Epcot. Love the Bonsai / maple hybrid. Look forward to your next report.

Glad to hear that all is going well with the rest of the family finally booking their transportation! I've thought about doing QS as the selections are varied a lot more tha the old days of nothing but burgers, dogs & fries!

The Bonsai can be any tree, to get a bonsai takes years to do. the tree is a regular sized tree. A bonsai is accomplished by lots of pruning of the tree as it is growing & wiring the branches into shape. I learned all this because I was into bonsai trees. I had a nice elm tree bonsai that I bought in Gatlinburg many years ago.

YAY that your brother's family is committed to goind now! You will have fun showing them around for sure!

I am very happy that they are all paid up and definitely going. I think they will be totally shocked at how much there is to do when we get there.

I like Studio catering too. That's nicks favorite. He loves the burgers there. I would like to try Starring Roles but I can't sit outside if its super hot!

Another CS that is often overlooked at a resort is the Roaring Forks at WLR. not sure why you'd go to a resort just for a TS but they do have some really good options.

I have eaten there and the food is very good. It's also nice and convenient to the pool, if we were to decide to pool hop there. :)

I have heard this but its good to hear someone substantiate it because I know my 8 year old nephew will want to eat off the adult menu mostly. He is almost as big as his brothers and that will not be enough food for him. Personally, I think the children's options are terrible. yuck! Way too many chicken nuggets for me.

We've never managed to see th drummers in Japan. one day...

Maybe you will get lucky on your upcoming trip!

You kitties are cute :goodvibes:goodvibes

Thanks. Those pictures just happened to be next to the "bonsai" picture in my photobucket account, so I thought it would be fun to post them.

i love that red dress!

freaky! yes, yes he does!

Great photos again Mary Ellen! Love the "artsy" shots.

That red dresses and all the outfits are so pretty. I wish I was that tiny.

Yup - Bill Clinton in Epcot playing the violin. No sax for the Moroccan band I guess. :rolleyes2

Thanks! When I posted them the other night I was really pleased with how well some of them turned out. It's always great to find some pics you really like!

Celebration looks very cute and very New England -ish.

Yes - very white picket fence New England like. I would like to take a drive back over there this summer and actually walk around.

too bad you had a party aftermath to deal with at home but you had a nice wrap up till that:scared1:

It was not pleasant and the worst part was that my son thought he HAD cleaned up. :rotfl: Yeah right!

I love the pictures around World Showcase! Beautiful :thumbsup2.

Thanks! I was really happy with the way some of them turned out. When I finally looked at them I thought, "Did I really take that?"

:yay: for the extended family "officially" joining you! The QSP should work well since there are so many choices. The only place I don't like their QS offerings is DHS. I'd probably just snack there and take the boat over to Epcot or BW to eat.

Yes - its official now. Finally! :faint:

I'm not a big fan of DHS CS either, but that will probably only be one meal. My goal is to make this trip as simple as possible and if it means CS in the park we are in, then that's they way to do it. It's too hard to drag all those kids around. convenience is key this trip!

YES they do .

Thanks for verifying that Pat! :thumbsup2

I love it too. .

I swear those clothes are made for a size 0. I wonder if anyone ever buys one? :scratchin

Love AA - Always bring a tear to my eye. Sorry you did not have more time in Celebration. .

AA is definitely a tear jerker. No matter how many times I see it I always have the same reaction.

Yeah - Celebration was a tease, but we'll be back!

:cool1: That your brother and his family FINALLY got on board.

I am so relieved and excited that the drama is over and now the fun can begin!

Ugh on the findings when you got home, that is such a drag.

That's when you know vacation is REALLY over! I mean - REALLY OVER!!!!!! :rotfl:

Adorable that Nick wanted a bonsai but seriously, I'd call WDW, that is definitely not a bonsai seed and you should get your money back!

After a friend gave me a book about bonsais I learned that those seeds typically come from regular oak trees. I know the art is in the pruning but I have know idea how the trunk gets as big as it does in proportion to the body. I warned Nick it wasn't a smart purchase, but I like the fact that he has been taking care of this thing for 4 months. It is cute!

Wierd experience on the call. I will say, having called Epcot from Oregon once, it's a little weird, you aren't sure what to say when you actually get someone on the phone.

That was definitely a weird experience and it might be awhile before I answer another phone in Epcot. What was supposed to be fun turned out to be just that - WEIRD!

Gorgeous pics, I especially like the drummer shots and the france painting (which totally makes me think of Tracy's picture as well!).

Thanks! I love those pictures and it totally reminded me of Tracy and our girl's trip!

QSP.

I agree that its a rip and you really have to eat dessert to make it worthwhile. Once I really priced it out I realized it is so NOT a bargain, but once again the theme of this trip is convenience. I am sure that my SIL does not want to be bothered with any cooking (except breakfast) and neither do I. It will actually be a treat for her kids because they never eat out!

I just think you might get more bang for the buck that way with your TIW as you won't be that close to the soda refill for those mugs.

I was worried about the soda refill thing but for the times we eat at the resort we can just head over to Artist Pallette and eat/drink there. given the fact that my brother's family rarely eat out, I think this will work out well for them. I'm really do this for their convenience. But I am going to track my meal expenses on my phone and do an analysis.

Good suggestions for CS places. Maybe once Denny and I get over to the BWV we can check out Hurricane Hannahs!

Kids have liked Cosmic Rays but I wasn't overwhelmed. None of us were overwhelmed by Sunshine Seasons but like myself, the rest aren't really food court folks either.

I think Nick would like the ribs here, so I am going to check out the menu. I haven't eaten at SS in awhile, but I'm willing to check it out.

Since you have a car, you may want to look at the new food court at Art of Animation as well. The menu sounds incredible, one I even want to check out! Honestly I wouldn't mind hopping over there in Oct to see it. We don't have time with our two days this summer or I'd slot it in while we have the car.

I will definitely go check out the menu online. did you find it here or allearsnet. I really want to go see the resort. It sounds so cool.

This summer we plan to try the Mara, very excited about that one and others on our list that we've yet to try are Pecos Bills, Flame Tree, Fairfax Faire and Picnic in the Park. I hope to hit either picnic in the park or flame tree this summer, in addition to the Mara.

Love Pecos Bills and Flame Tree, but I can't eat outside in the summer heat.

LOVE the Mara. It's probably one of my fav CS places! I hope you like it. Yummy flatbreads and good choices plus excellent shaded seating near the pool.

Love the pics of the pearl girls, World Showcase and of the cats!

Lol I laughed at the conversation that took place in the phone booths but can see why it would make you want to high tail it out of England! :rotfl: Btw there is none of that sunshine in Manchester :(

Ah, I fell behind due to not being able to get on the boards for several days, but I'm all caught up now! I can't believe this trip is over! But I can't wait to hear about your Williamsburg trip. :thumbsup2

Your WS pictures are gorgeous!!! It put me right back in Epcot, and I saw some stuff I'd never noticed before. Now, I'll be on the lookout for those spots.

I don't know what seeds were in that packet, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a bonsai! :rotfl2:

I can't believe someone called the phone booth and was rude! Who does that?:confused3

Your cats are adorable! Max reminded me of my cat, it's her life mission to sit on every bag, book, and electronic I own.:lmao:

The second seed grew but it looks nothing like a Bonsai. Sure - I realize that Bonsai is a technique, but I don't think the seed from a regular old oak tree is going to turn into a Bonsai.

Congrats on your weed! :thumbsup2

Is it my imagination or does this violin player look like Bill Clinton?

"I did not inhale anything in the Morocco Pavilion."

Dum Dum Dum........

What did you call me?

I actually felt a little shaken as I walked away. I mean REALLY?????? I was calling those booths to wish people a Happy Holiday and here was someone calling me to say I sounded drunk?

You'd think he could have just stuck with asking if you had Prince Albert in a can.

On the way out I got this great idea to take a ride through Celebration, Florida. I have always wanted to see the town. We found it pretty easily.

I loved your monorail pictures.

Celebration is a nice little town. Julie and I talked about retiring there until we saw what condos were going for.:scared1:

Good night and Good bye Orlando

Quick Service...I highly recommend either 1) The Kringla Bakery in Italy...we tried it this year (my mom and I) and it was AMAZING. They have healthier options, like cheese and apple sandwich or roast beef, all on really good chiabatta (sp?) bread. You get your choice of fresh fruit or side salad with it and a pastry, I believe I got the shortbread pear tart. VERY good all around. Nice crispy sandwich with grilled onions. Yum yum.
Or, 2) Starring Rolls. They have sandwiches there, and their cupcakes/desserts are amazing, particularly the chocolate peanut butter cupcake!

I've heard rave reviews on Earl of Sandwich, and Pecos Bill is one of our favorites for the taco salads. They have a wonderful topping bar with mushrooms, sautéed onions, nacho cheese, along with all the usuals. The flatbreads at SSR are wonderful too.

I like both EOS and Pecos Bill (Denny love PB). I did not know they had flatbreads at SSR. I am no officially very happy because nothing beats a good flatbread. Yum!

Your kitties are so cute :goodvibes:
Thanks. I have one more but she was missing for this week's photo session. :rotfl:

You're right, that doesn't look like a bonsai.

Yup - It looks like a seed from a regular tree. It's been the same size for about 4 weeks now. I am definitely getting him a real bonsai when we go back.

Celebration is beautiful! I need to check it out one of these days.

They have a segway tour there that is very reasonable. I would like to try it, but only if its not scorching hot this summer.

I can't believe the trip is over. Thank you for sharing all your adventures, very fun following along. :)

I'm glad you enjoyed my TR considering how lengthy and long winded it is. I am going to do a recap so I have a few more updates left.

I'm sorry it was not the best homecoming, I'm sure that was frustrating.

When you come home late and all you want to do is crawl in bed you definitely don't need to see a mess. At least I was off from work the next next, because if I wasn't - watch out!

I'm sorry you came home to that. My brother used to have parties when we were away (Usually to WDW!) but the house would at least be spotless when we got home. Is it any wonder he never wanted to come with us?

Nicholas keeps saying, "ARe you sure you are going to leave Brian alone in the house for a week this summer?" But seriously, I am not staying home just because he's irresponsible. Nothing was broken, but I would have preferred to walk into the house the way I left it.

Can't wait to hear about your Williamsburg trip and then it won't be too long until your June trip!

Denny and I had a great time in W-burg so I definitely want to do a recap especially since I want to talk about the timeshare pitch compared to the DVC tour.

I can't wait until June! :cool1:

Excellent update! (Well, most of it.)

Thank you and :rotfl:

Love your kitties :lovestruc Kismet has a really precious face!

Thanks. Kismet is a little cutie. All four of her paws are white. So cute.

Sorry about your odd experience in the phone booth. :confused3 Perhaps the person calling was actually the drunk one?

That was just weird and I really do think it was someone calling from outside of Disney because they definitely weren't feeling the pixie dust love.

That bonsai tree is... leafy!

Tell me about it. :rotfl:

The pictures around France are gorgeous! Very artistic and well composed :goodvibes

Thank you. I am really pleased with those pictures and I completely forgot I took them.

Celebration sure is pretty.

I definitely need to go back and look around more. I want to see the Celebration Hotel.

Sorry you didn't have the best welcome home :sad1:

It was annoying, to say the least. I actually think Nick was more upset than me.

I can't believe it's over! What a great trip! Can't wait for the next one! :thumbsup2

I'm going to drag it out a little bit longer. I can't say goodbye yet. :goodvibes

A last lap around the World Showcase really is a great way to close out a Disney trip! Nick's bonsai tree definitely doesn't look like one I've ever seen, but it does look like a cute plant!

It really is the best way to go out, isn't it? It seems its usually the way I close a trip and I like it that way.

I'm getting Nick a REAL bonsai tree whether he wants one or not. Hmmmph!

Celebration looks like such a nice town!

I really want to get back there and nose around a lot more. This time I'll have the right lens to take better pictures!

Sorry to see the Disney portion of your TR come to an end, but can't wait to hear about your recent trip next! :goodvibes

Our recent jaunt to W-burg was a ton of fun. I hope I have time to write about it soon.

Back with more replies tomorrow.
