Why Not Just Queue Up Another Disney Trip? Link to New TR 6/24 p136!

YAY you've arrived!! :woohoo:

It's about time, right?

I'm soooo looking forward to hearing all about oour trip and of course seeing all your beautiful pictures! :goodvibes

I took a ton of pictures, but I really put the emphasis on taking pictures of things I haven't taken yet. That might help explain the 130 Osbourne light pictures. This is the first time I used my new camera to take those pictures. I also took a lot of pictures inside attractions, many with my cell. And, of course, no flash!

Hey, the painting that I thought was real life on FB!!

It's cool, isn't it? The whole mural was really neat and I regret that I never went back and took a picture of the whole thing.

Glad to see you've started the next leg of this TR!! It is funny when you compare how other places do decorations as opposed to Disney (or the surrounding Disney area, I guess!)

There really is so much attention to detail and I think all the resorts look so darn festive with their Christmas decorations. I love that!

Hurray for the start of your Christmas quickie!!!
:thumbsup2 I am happy to have this thing underway and I hope to get a real picture update in this weekend.

Yeah, packing for the entire family (well, two of your three boys) and having to close up the house would slow a person down. Glad you got everything done and to the airport on time without forgetting anything (except the coffee filters ).

Those darn coffee filters. :rotfl:

I was totally in slow mo. I don't know what my problem was, but organizational skills were not their sharpest that morning.

Denny cracks me up with his GPS panic. Like you couldn't find your way around the resort blindfolded at this point the number of times you have been!

Seriously, right? Denny is addicted to his GPS. It's really sad. And he knows that it doesn't work in the parking garage so why the panic???? :rotfl:

Yeay for the start of Christmas merchandise pictures -- those salt and pepper shakers are adorable!

They had tons of cute Christmas things. SOOOOOOOOO many things I wanted. So many!

Hurrah! You started! :yay: Sounds like it was a hectic day leading up to the flight but there's just nothing like that "D day" excitement. Not sure Denny & Nick were feeling it based on their pictures.

Yeah - they really don't look all that excited, do they? But they both had a great time and at the end of the trip Nick thanked me for planning everything. He definitely had a good time. So, they are definitely feeling the love in some of their later pictures. :goodvibes

Glad you arrived safe and sound and got a good room location. There are lots of very passionate OKW lovers out there. I stayed there ~5 years ago and loved it.

Loved the room location and I really enjoyed OKW. It would be a perfect place for a non park trip. I got the feeling there were a lot of people there just chillin at the resort. I would definitely stay there again and I bet the 2BR villa is huge!

Looking forward to hearing more! :santa:

Hopefully more this weekend!

You are so right about D Day excitement! I'm not a morning person, and never have been, but the last three times I've gone to WDW it has been on the first or second flight of the day. Can't seem to bear the thought that I could have been there earlier if I'd just woken up! :rotfl:

Going early in the morning does maximize your day, that's for sure. I used to do the first flight of the morning thing, but then it got harder and harder for me to sleep at night. I'd still be awake at 2am when I had to get up at 4am. That's not a good thing for me. When I leave a bit later it takes away that pressure of "having" to go to sleep.

I'm not a coffee drinker so I'm confused. I thought they put filters in the room? I know with DVC you don't get new ones every day, is that why you needed to get some?

They put a premade filter/coffee packet in there, but you only get one and its not the greatest coffee. So, yup, that's why you need to bring your own - because its not a regular resort room.

Love the start of the trip! Doesn't it feel like you were just leaving? How is it that we're back home and the trip is over...

Yes - OMG - I mopped around for a week when I got back. I swear - all I wanted to do was turn around and go back. Darn short trips. :rotfl:

Woo hooo for D Day!! I know just what you mean about the excitement and nervousness! I agree that packing more a girls trip is much, much easier then a family trip!! But, of course, I have still have to worry about getting everything ready for the little ones!

Packing is much easier for a girls trip and since my kids are self sufficient I don't have to do much other than make sure Nick has enough school uniforms for the week.

I love D Day!!!!! Best day EVER!

Can't wait for more!

Hopefully more is coming this weekend!!!! :)

Oh Mary Ellen! I am totally :rotfl: at all of this. I know EXACTLY what you mean about not being able to get out of your own way. I do the same thing and my KIDS pull Nick's routine everytime.

I just kept bumping into myself at every turn. :rotfl: I was a mess that morning, but I hid it pretty well. :goodvibes

And Nick - that is a big reason why I couldn't let him drive to school. I knew I would be pacing the floor waiting for him to get home. He is the world's biggest procrastinator. ugh! But I still:love: him!

I AM packing filters for Oct. :rotfl2:
:cheer2::cool1::woohoo::yay: Thank goodness! :rotfl2:

What do you think about those Starbuck's Via things that Glen mentioned? Have you tried them. I'm sort of curious now.

Hot tub before bed after a long nighttime journey sounds a great way to relax and be able to actually get to sleep and major bonus that you didn't go to be thinking "I have to get up and buy filters first thing!"

:goodvibes

That hot tub was awesome. Really one of my favs. It was nice and big and never crowded. Loved it!!!

Oh yeah - I didn't feel like tearing about the coffee packet in the room again and you know I must have coffee the second I get up!

Looking forward to seeing your Christmas quickie photos! I
Missed being there to see the lights this year! :thumbsup2

Hey HD! Hope you and your family had a great trip and I hope I will be able to keep your entertained with my pics. I took some new and different ones this trip, so stay tuned!

I love D Day! :cool1: That's funny that you were up so early even though you had a late flight! I'm always up at the a$$ crack of dawn too, to get to the airport, but leaving late does sound nice, except, I don't know if I could miss that much of a Disney day!

MCO was decorated so nicely for the holidays, wasn't it? Our airport in CT wasn't decorated either, it was nice getting to MCO and seeing Christmas stuff everywhere!

Glad you got the room you wanted at OKW! I don't really like ground floor rooms either, I don't like all the people walking by! Going in the hot tub sounds great, we never do things like that! I gotta start taking notes, because I always forget about the little things like that! Like RELAXING on vacation...we never do that on a Disney trip! :rotfl2:

Gah! I took a week off from the DIS for the holidays and missed out on the end of HHI and start of WDW!

Thanks for the tour of HHI. Definitely looks like a great place to stay. I hope we can try that one out sometime. And thanks especially for the tour of Pedros! :rotfl: Maybe one day I'll work up the courage to stop there.

I've had the debate about BWI and PHL as well. PHL is closer...BWI is usually cheaper. And BWI is a nicer airport, too.

You need to get yourself an owner's locker and keep coffee filters in it! :thumbsup2

I completely agree with you on the bathroom situation at OKW, the size of the studio is great, but I really did not like not having a separate vanity outside of the bathroom - it sure slowed us down when we were getting ready!

/
THink I need to go back and check - I think I missed the end of HHi, but I'll get to it.
I'm so interested to see and hear all about OKW since we're awaiting closing on a small contract there. We want to add a night or two there to our October trip. I'm glad to hear the studios are big - we usually only stay in studios, to save points since we don't have many! This trip we may be able to do a 1BR!

So near Hospitality house is a good request to make? What are the advantages of that area?

I totally relate to your impatient D-Day worries. I never sleep the night before a trip - I wake up a bunch of times thinking about what I'm forgetting, despite my extensive and detailed packing lists!

I like the Starbucks Via. I normally drink coffee with enough cream/sugar or some additive so it barely tastes like coffee, but I think it's good - easy, convenient! I don't even use a whole packet (just too strong for me).

Oh - by the way - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Yes the heat in June can be a bit "special" but you will have an amazing time!! One of these years I'm going to see Disney at the Holidays...it is the one thing I haven't done...I'm going to cross 4th of July off the list this year and then that just leaves Christmas!!!!

I'm so excited to see your Osbourne Lights pictures. I have no doubt they are going to be fabulous!!! Did you guys swim at all??!?!?

Yeah I would love to Hawaii but just thinking of the flight gives me anxiety....and to think I'm considering London and Paris LOL!!!

Hope you have a fabulous day Mary Ellen!!!!!

Well you better follow along with me Jen!! I am going in less than 2 months!!! I promise a TR with lots of pictures too! Need to get more memory cards. Should have asked for them for Christmas! Hawaii is on our radar too - we might be borrowing points for Aulani and since it's so expensive to fly there, we'd probably stop in LA and do Disneyland for a couple days. Then no WDW for a year or two. :scared1:

So I went back and read the end of the HHI trip - Wow. Such gorgeous pictures. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to do that trip too!!! Maybe I can get a good member discount and not have to use my points.

I love D Day! :cool1: That's funny that you were up so early even though you had a late flight! I'm always up at the a$$ crack of dawn too, to get to the airport, but leaving late does sound nice, except, I don't know if I could miss that much of a Disney day!

It's a bummer we had to leave late, but it was really better than trying to leave early the next day. That's the way I have to look at it because that's as much school as Nick could miss and even that was pushing it. I do miss that first flight of the day and feeling like you have so much of the day left to enjoy.

I
MCO was decorated so nicely for the holidays, wasn't it? Our airport in CT wasn't decorated either, it was nice getting to MCO and seeing Christmas stuff everywhere!

MCO always looks really nice for the holidays. I think its great that they make it so attractive. It's a great way to kick off a winter vacation. I remember one year that had a little quartet there playing Christmas music and other classical pieces. Now that's welcoming.

:rotfl2:

I really didn't have a specific location in mind, but I knew I wanted to be on the second floor. I just totally lucked out on the location, which was great. It turned out perfect for the first night.

Yay for D Day!! Usually exhausting but filled with so much anticipation!! :dance3:

I swear its the adrenaline rush from D Day anticipation that definitely fuels the addiction. I just never got D Day excitement with other trips like I do going to Disney. :wizard:

Gah! I took a week off from the DIS for the holidays and missed out on the end of HHI and start of WDW!

Those darn holidays! They make it SO hard to keep up with DISing, don't they????? :rotfl: I think I did most of my catching up at work when we were slow last week. :rolleyes1

Thanks for the tour of HHI. Definitely looks like a great place to stay. I hope we can try that one out sometime. And thanks especially for the tour of Pedros! :rotfl: Maybe one day I'll work up the courage to stop there.

I think you and your family would love HHI. And since you really enjoy eclectic eateries, I bet the island would keep you pretty well entertained. Plus you can't beat PB&J sandwiches by the pool now, can you????? :thumbsup2

Pedros really was a hoot. I saw L at dinner the other night and she said again how embarrassed she was that she made us stop. I'm really so glad she did.

I've had the debate about BWI and PHL as well. PHL is closer...BWI is usually cheaper. And BWI is a nicer airport, too.

My thoughts exactly! I didn't know this until this past trip, but SWA flies into both terminals there and I think its the A terminal thats so nicely remodeled and so much prettier than PHL.

You need to get yourself an owner's locker and keep coffee filters in it! :thumbsup2

You're probably right about that. I guess I better break down and get one. I feel like I am such a sherpa already that I will still be bringing extra stuff and then I will have a whole locker to deal with. I would like a place to store seasonal decorations and some of my characters!

I completely agree with you on the bathroom situation at OKW, the size of the studio is great, but I really did not like not having a separate vanity outside of the bathroom - it sure slowed us down when we were getting ready!

I started taking my makeup out into the kitchen area and using the big mirror on the back of the door so I could get ready quicker. But I hate mixing hair and makeup and food products. Oh well. I guess its really just a minor inconvenience.

Happy New Year Mary Ellen :goodvibes

Thanks Dawn! Same to you. My number one memory of this year's NYEve will be Caitlin sucking the last drop of sangria out of the carafe. :rotfl2: Tell her - thanks for that visual.

Be Back in a second. Gotta check something in the kitchen! TBC......

I'm glad to hear the studios are big - we usually only stay in studios, to save points since we don't have many! This trip we may be able to do a 1BR!

I really enjoyed my stay at OKW. I consider it very "old school", if that makes sense. I think it was modeled more after the "condo" appeal of the late 80's/early 90's, but in soft pleasing pastels. The landscaping is nice and I like that it is intertwined with the golf course.

It does not have any "snooty" airs to it. It seems like it was filled with people who really consider it "home" and are much more interested in being "home" then hitting the parks.

I also noticed a fair share of people with disabilities working there and it may just be my observation, but I wonder if Disney puts more disabled people there because it is such a nice, refreshing, accepting environment.

I think you will like the studio. It would be a nice size for your whole family. You may want an extra hair dryer though, because, like I said, the hair dryer is IN the bathroom.

I am sure the 1BRs are awesome. I think the layout is similar to Vero and those 1 BR's were huge.

So near Hospitality house is a good request to make? What are the advantages of that area?

The advantage is being able to walk to the main pool, the gift shop, community hall, main pool, health club, and video rentals. I liked being able to walk there vs. driving. I guess the down side is its harder to see some of the more secluded areas of the resort, because it is big. It felt bigger to me than SSR but my perception could be wrong because its been a while since I've stayed at SSR.

I totally relate to your impatient D-Day worries. I never sleep the night before a trip - I wake up a bunch of times thinking about what I'm forgetting, despite my extensive and detailed packing lists!

Maybe I need to do a packing list??? I think I am the only person who just goes by what's in my head. Perhaps that's my problem? :confused3 I don't know. I just know I was a mess this trip.

I like the Starbucks Via. I normally drink coffee with enough cream/sugar or some additive so it barely tastes like coffee, but I think it's good - easy, convenient! I don't even use a whole packet (just too strong for me).

Thanks for the endorsement. I was just mentioning to Denny that I thought we should get them for June because its just he and I that drink coffee. Plus I saw them pretty reasonably priced on Amazon. :thumbsup2

I like my coffee creamer too. That's part of the appeal for me! :goodvibes

Oh - by the way - HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Thanks! Same to you!!!!!!!

I can't wait to read all about your DLP trip! Those TR's are so fun. Make sure you put it here, although I guess it won't matter much once I sub to it.

Aulani also sounds wonderful. Combined with a DL trip - even better. I know I would enjoy something like that.

Check out Amazon for memory cards. I usually buy the 8gb pack at Costco, but I found them cheaper on Amazon and I ordered them from someone who did free shipping. Cheaper and more convenient than waiting for a Costco sale.

So I went back and read the end of the HHI trip - Wow. Such gorgeous pictures. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to do that trip too!!! Maybe I can get a good member discount and not have to use my points.

That's totally what I hoping for October 2103 because I definitely want to go back for a week with Denny. Or at least 5 days plus 2 days in Charleston. It was so much fun. I can't wait to go back! :goodvibes

Storming the Castle

So I think I borrowed this subtitle from someone else's TR, but I think it appropriate for my first "real" update.

But first - a quick update on our June trip. Denny and I had a nice trip to the beach yesterday. I had to return something to the outlets, so we made it into a day trip. It was a gorgeous day and we stopped at a restaurant called the Green Turtle. It was right on the beach and we had this gorgeous view.........

cea7ac78.jpg

Anyway, we decided to talk about our upcoming trip and it looks like we may actually drive and make it a two week road trip. Part of the reason for that is that we thought we had SWA credit, but we don't - long story. Flights are over $200 right now. That's more than I am used to paying.

Any hoo.....We were thinking of doing this:

Leaving June 9th, staying in southern Georgia
Check into SSR Treehouse villas June 10th
Check into BWV June 15th
Head to Daytona Beach on June 18th - spend 2 nights there.
Head to Charleston on June 20th - spend 2 nights there.
Home on the 23rd

So what do you think????? It really would be a great long trip. We would be home in time for the weekend and to rest and recup before heading back to work on Monday.

Our other option is to spend 4 nights in Daytona and head north on June 23rd and just drive straight through knowing we had the whole weekend to recup.

We have friends in Daytona, so it would be so lovely to get to spend some time with them and have some quality beach time.

Thoughts????

Oh - I almost Forgot - HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL MY DISFRIENDS. I HOPE THIS YEAR IS FILLED WITH PLENTY OF PIXIE DUST!

So....STORMING THE CASTLE

Well, not surprisingly, I was up bright on early on Thursday December 15th (despite going to bed at midnight).

I fumbled around in the dark and tried to make coffee. The light in our kitchenette didn't come on immediately. In fact, on several occasions it would take 5 or 10 minutes and then the light would suddenly pop on.

I made another crucial coffee mistake this trip. I picked up this powdered candy cane flavored creamer. Yuck! It was sickening sweet and every day I liked it a little less. Oh well.

Denny and I decided to check out the health club. This is how dark it was when we went outside.

826772ab.jpg

The health club had a nice array of fitness equipment but neither one of us could figure out how to turn the TVs on on the treadmills. And because the treadmills all faced the exact opposite direction of the big flat screen, we couldn't see that one either.

I quickly got frustrated and told Denny I was leaving to go run outside. I figured he would eventually discover how to turn the TVs on and I could run on the treadmill another day. Guess what???? He never did! :rotfl2: And I thought I was the only one that was mechanically challenged.

I am so glad I decided to run outside. It was a lovely morning, although overcast, and it gave me a great opportunity to check out the resort. Towards the end of my run I started taking pictures with my phone. I saw this path along the golf course and I really wanted to run down it because I thought it might connect with SSR.

95700ddb.jpg

However, all the paths had been signs posted that there was to be no jogging. Really? bummer. I mean - I understand they don't want joggers on the golf course when people are golfing, but a few years ago I don't remember those signs when I ran FROM SSR to OKW. So, bottom line - I was hoping to run over to the tree houses, but I never figured out how to do it without going on the forbidden paths.

Somebody is decorated for Christmas

I noticed our door mat was backwards

I got back before Denny so I hoped in the shower. He was on his computer when I got out. He has been incredibly busy at work and was doing work "stuff". It was getting late and the MK had an early morning EMH. I suggested that he just stay there and work and then come into the park later with Nick. I told him I needed to get our AP's first thing and advised him to call me when they were on the bus.

I got to the bus stop a little after 8am (later than I wanted), but had to wait a good 15 minutes for a bus. I was actually starting to get bored, but I was afraid to wonder too far for pics. I didn't quite have the bus flow down, but I figured out that the Hospitality House must be the last stop. Yawn!

I thought this looked so pretty.

IMG_97901.jpg

But as pretty as it was, I tired of the view after about 5 minutes. Come on Bus!!!!

IMG_97941.jpg

This reminds me of a cross between CSR and the beach club

IMG_97911.jpg

The pretty pastels reminded me of the BC

IMG_97921.jpg

Please bus - Please come around this corner

IMG_97931.jpg

There really wasn't anything else to take pictures of unless you want to see the parking lot, which I doubt even hard core DISers are interested in!

Fortunately this lovely couple with a baby boy and a toddler daughter joined me at the stop. Those gorgeous children helped break my boredom and the couple were so nice to talk to. The finally - a bus. And, I got a seat. The whole bus was full of excited children.

My first stop was guest services. I probably could have named this update "Sticker Shock" because I didn't check prices and I didn't know the DVC AP was now $450. Wow! My first one was something like $350 and that wasn't THAT long ago". So despite have $690 in tickets to exchange, I still owed a nice chunk of change for 3 AP's. I think for that price that should throw in a free drink mug. What do ya think???? I also purchased a TIW since we decided not to do a dining plan.

I was pretty excited to be entering the MK. When the kids were little we would always do MK and the first day and our first ride would always be???????

Well, space mountain, of course. So, that was my plan. But first I did take a few pictures.

You can never have too many castle pictures, can you?

IMG_98101.jpg

After taking the castle pictures I went straight to Space Mountain. I grabbed a FP for later and went standby. It was a walk on! I didn't ride this ride in May because of my head ache. It was a fun ride in the dark. I didn't take my red neck photo because I hated it. Nuff said.

Now, somewhere on my way to Space Mountain Nick sent me a text saying that they were getting ready to leave the villa. I was pretty shocked actually. I told him to text me when they were on the bus. I figured I had time to ride Buzz. No pictures and I don't remember my score, but I had fun!

I checked my phone when I got off. Nothing so far, so I headed to the hub and had a PP photographer take this picture of me.

IMG_98111.jpg

I'm not purchasing the PP this trip, although I did get a card and I guess I SHOULD look at the pictures.

IMG_98121.jpg

IMG_98161.jpg

When I got to the hub Nick sent me a text that they actually had to go back to the room because they forgot something or someone had to use the bathroom or something and they were NOW heading back to the bus stop. IDK. All I know is that I know had more time to kill so I took more pictures

The line was actually not moving and I started getting a little nervous, but right before I decided to bale the doors opened and I was in.

It's really great to know where all the exits are, so I could line up efficiently

I vowed to keep my camera in its case, but that was a promise I didn't keep very long. Instead, I decided to fool with the settings on my camera to see what pictures I might get

Welcome to Frontier land

IMG_98831.jpg

I thought the park was starting to get crowded, but the wait time for Splash said 10 minutes. We hit the rest rooms real quick and by the time we got in line, it was obviously longer, but not horrible.

But since we are such smart thinkers were also grabbed FPs for BTM which currently posted a wait time of 20 minutes with a FP return time in about 35 minutes. No brainer.

The line for Splash did slow down right before loading, but it gave me time to take a few pics

I learned that one of the reasons the boys took so long was that they forgot the ponchos, so they had to return to the room to get them. This was after they walked back once before so Denny could use the bathroom. Sheesh. I ended up not needed the poncho. No one was getting really wet on Splash today.

My red neck ride photo did not turn out that well. that's Denny in the second row

I was seated in a row right in front of a family that had a "handler" or whatever you call the CM's who escort people through the park. I tried to figure out whether it was a celeb and his family or just a regular person with money to burn. I still have no idea, but the little boy was so cute and declared he wanted to ride again!

Now - get ready - because in this mega extra long update I decided to do something I have not done before. Yes - that's right - I TOOK PICTURES on BTMRR. I figure if Glennbo can do it, so can I. So let's see what I got, shall we?

So far, so good (LOL)

Wow! That's quite an update!

I'm sad that BTMRR is going to be closed when we are there in April. Great photo session on the ride! I love that you can see the castle & I love riding it at night - especially during Wishes!!
