I still like the show but agree with several other thoughts. Normally I can find a few that I like, some I don't like and at least one (or two depending on the newer seasons) that I really want to win which means I'm usually focusing on things here and there while enjoying the overall season in general. So far though I would say out of the new era versions this season is just not doing it for me.
I sorta think they have jumped the shark on their own casting calls. Rather than trying to find actual contestants it feels more like trying to find random but specified people. Specified meaning they fit into the type of character which may have felt less forced in the past than this season for me. You want varied contestants and ones from different walks of life but it feels like maybe this season is almost like they are typecasting contestants into roles so instead of feeling progressive (and by that I mean just varied and up to date on how society is) it feels artificial.
Even down to the weather talk with the heat this last episode. I have no doubt it is absolutely brutal out there but they used to talk more about that, more about being there in monsoon season and we'd see episode after episode of just rain and storms and wind. And the heat was talked a lot about in the past and people dropping like flies in challenges due to it or shown at camp just utterly exhausted by it. But this season it's like "well I have mental exhaustion" and that was kinda it but feels at odds with how hot we're being told it is. I'm appreciative of how they take safety more seriously in the new era so I'm not speaking to that just that the contestants themselves in the past seem to have experienced overall much more extreme conditions in a more robust way.
However, what I will say is in contrast, IMO, to the last couple of seasons I did like that Sage was less hiding of her feelings about Shannon, of course not exactly to her face until Shannon was voted out, but I just mean her facial expressions when others weren't looking were almost like a breath of fresh air because realistically people are not all happy go lucky about other people who are annoying them. I'm sure Jeff has perfected the art of schooling his face he didn't seem to give anything away when Sage's facial expression was really telling it like how she felt. I'm not fond of Sage but just thought that detail was nice to see.
