Love that they had an adult pool!! Your pictures once again are beautiful...some of the buildings reminded me of Liberty Square! Your dinner looked so good and I can only imagine how delicious having access to fresh seafood is...living on the prairie doesn't afford us that luxury
I am 100% with you on the ord sighting!! I was bummed you couldn't go on the ghost tour, that would be so cool! I can only imagine how spooky that house at the end of the street looked because the gate had an ominous look to it!!

Sorry Cynthia - I did not see this last night.
It really was a fun evening - the pool was great (when the karoke ended), the food and beer were great, and the guideless ghost tour was....well....FREE!
Not sure how I got 6 pages behind.
Probably because I am updating at 3X my usual speed. Trying to get as much done as possible before I leave for HHI!

That's so good that you still went on the trip despite the cancellation. It is a area that's well worth seeing.
The whole jogger thing was weird.
I guess its a tradition - just something they do and I guess no one has ever been hurt doing it. I did see a couple girls running by themselves, but everyone else had at least one running buddy.I'm glad you think so.
I have heard mixed reviews about the ghost tours. some people complain that is too much history and not enough ghosts. Doh - Of course its going to be history.

The adult pool was great! Loved that!
Those historic buildings are sooooooo cool. I also took some day time pictures before we went home, so stay tuned.

That place looked sooooooo creepy. I've seen it in the daylight and it looks a little scary then, but at night - watch out. It was surrounded by a big brick wall and that gate. It was pitch black. I wanted to find an orb in that house, but I guess it followed me.

Many Disers refer to Universal Studios as the "Dark Side". I really haven't heard any nicknames for the Busch Parks, so I think I will affectionately refer to Busch Gardens as the "other dark side". Except - it wasn't dark at all. It was a bright, pretty, and well landscaped park.
I found my receipt the other day and my ticket was $57.88 (AAA single day price). In case anyone is interested.
When I got up in the morning I felt like we had plenty of time because BG did not open until 10 am. I used this as an opportunity to take a few more pictures to see if the view from the back of the condo had changed.
Nope - Looks the same!
Today I ran in a different part of the complex, just to get a feel for how big this place actually was. Pretty big! To stay in some parts you definitely need a car to get anywhere central in the resort.
It was shaping up to be another beautiful day!
We left the condo around 9am, figuring it would give us plenty of time to get to BG.

I think this picture makes the park look sooooooooooo empty.
I don't remember exactly how much parking was. I'm sure it was at least $10, probably more. For another $10 upcharge you can get preferred parking. I figured with today's crowd level, that certainly wouldn't be necessary.
Better picture of the lift hill
The main difference between the preferred parking and the regular parking is that you have to take the tram from the regular parking. Not so much because it isn't walkable, but because it would spend too much time figuring out exactly HOW to walk it. The regular parking requires you to somehow cross the main entrance road. I certainly wasn't going to figure that out, so we hopped on the tram.

The tram actually took you away from the park, made a u-turn and headed back to the park. I am sure this is to pick up from even further areas of the parking lot. But those areas remained empty all day.
In no time we were getting ready to enter
Now, it may surprise some of you, but I did not take my camera into the park. I left it in the car. I didn't even have to go through bag check. Shocking, I know. I had a water bottle and my ticket and my phone. I wasn't sure how I was going to store my camera for the coasters, so I decided to go without it.
But - never fear - I went back later in the afternoon to retrieve it!
So for now you will have to suffer through phone pictures.

We stood just beyond here while they did their version of rope drop. Not sure what they did, but people just started moving. We hung a right and ended up here
This attraction was called Europe in the Air. It was BG's version of Soarin, if you will. However, you are never in the air. Rather, you sit in a refurbed theatre and the seats vibrate or girate or something as the film changes scenes. The vibrating got old after about the first three scene changes, but it was not an entirely unpleasant attraction. The scenery was pretty, but the film quality was terrible. I don't get it - with all the digital technology out there, why did this video look circa 1970's?
My review - I certainly wouldn't wait in a long queue for this, but if its a hot summer day and you need a some AC then its worth a go. Don't expect to nap here. The moving seats will prevent that.
Our Next stop was
I love this coaster because I am a sucker for hanging coasters with a good lift hill and loops. I'm pretty sure this is a B&M coaster which stands for bolliger and mabillard. They are extremely well known for designing many major theme park coasters, among them - the Incredible Hulk.

Before we got on the ride I suddenly got very nervous - no - not nervous to ride it, but I was afraid of losing my phone. I had flashbacks of Ellen (podsnel) losing her phone on Sum of All Thrills. Denny's pockets were the velcro type. Nope. I was going for a locker. And much to my happiness - the lockers at BG were only $1. That's right - one American dollar. Well, alrighty then, I could have brought my camera after all.
Phones, keys, wallets and change locked away, we took to the skies on Alpiengist. So fun. I think we may have ridden three times in a row just because we could (and we wanted to get our money's worth out of that locker). Then we went over to the little flume ride right around the corner. Nice little drop hill, otherwise just your typical flume ride.
When we returned to the locker we rode alpengiest one more time. I seriously don't remember if we rode three or four times, but it was just the right amount.
Moving on......
We past some cute shops (one with soccer stuff, the other with candy)
We must have hit a german shop as well

Our next stop was the Curse of Dark Castle
This is one of the indoor rides like SpiderMan at Universal. Let's see if I can find a description for you.
Deep in the snow covered hills of Bavaria stands a foreboding castle frozen under the spell of a centuries-old curse. The castle has been uninhabited for decades.
By the living, that is.
Literally frozen in time, these ancient castle walls ache to reveal the secrets they have held. To whisper a warning. To tell you, urge you, beg you to leave. Except it's too late.
What begins as an enchanted sleigh ride ends in a bone-chilling chase packed with dizzying drops, surprise twists, and such sensational 3-D visuals, you won't believe your eyes.
You know - one of THOSE rides. No wait, 3D glasses. It was fun although I had no idea what was going on.
Next stop - lunch -
We decided to eat at the German restaurant. We actually didn't eat anything too German as you can see here.
Boring people. We both had the turkey breast sandwich. I put chips on my sandwich, in case you were wondering what that foreign substance was.
The best part of this sandwich - plenty of turkey!
While in Germany, we watched the German show
Lots of music. Lots of dancing. At one point I got pulled up on stage to dance with one of the guys. Thank goodness we don't have any pictures of THAT. By the time Denny figured out how to take video on his phone, it was too late. See - there are some advantages to not having a technologically advanced DH.
The music was good, the performers were just "eh", but they WERE really trying. I think a couple of the girls were new because they boys were whispering directions to them. I know - I was sitting as close to them as possible.
From Germany we headed over to Italy. We passed this
In Italy we decided to watch their show. I loved this show. Probably because it was all music and these guys could play!!!!!!!!
I only took one lousy picture, but if you go to BG and you enjoy instrumental music with a lot of action - see this!
Our next stop was Apollo's chariot - the coaster you saw on the way in.
We paid for another $1 locker and off we went. I'm sure we rode it twice. It's possible we went one more time, but I can't remember.
Then we went over and rode the ride that's like Kali River Rapids. I actually like the BG one a little better. It is possible to get absolutely soaked on this ride - we DID not! Yeah. BTW - BG offers something called a family dryer. Its $5 and a whole family of four can step in there and get dried off.
From Italy we headed to Ireland.
We were on a roll with the shows, so we decided to see the Celtic Frye show. This was the best of all of them. The singing, the dancing. The lead female and male singers had fabulous voices and I made sure to tell them so as we left the theatre. There's one thing I've noticed, no matter how good a singer is, they really appreciate getting positive feedback. I did not take any pictures in here. I might have tried but it was inside and dark and they wouldn't have turned out with my phone.
Our next stop with the Irish bar where we decided to share a beer flight
By now it was about 4pm. We had circled the park, seen all the shows, ridden two out of the four coasters, and done a couple other rides. At this point I asked Denny if he would mind if I went out and got my camera to do one more loop of the park.
He was cool with it, so off we went to catch the tram.
Entering back through England you can see that there are phone booths here, just like in Epcot
Except that there are no phones in the booth! But it is a novel way to do a height check.
Oh - and in case you were wondering if you would ever see a picture of me during this trip. Well, this is about as good as it's going to get - my reflection in the phone booth.
It's only 4:30 and the park doesn't close until 7pm
I think Denny left his wallet or phone or something in the car, so he went all the way back to find it. I took more pictures while waiting.

I love white hydrangeas. They are actually my favorite flower and I have no idea why I love them so much

I took a lot of pictures of the Pompei ride. You can be certain I was not about to get drenched on this ride. I did it when we took the kids here and I walked around feeling like I was wearing a diaper for the rest of the day

When Denny finally returned from his RETURN trip to the parking lot, we rode the sky way over to France. This worked great because it allowed me to take some great pictures of the Griffon, the coaster I did NOT go on.
I'll admit. I chickened out of this one. The whole 90 degree angle drop and the 6 second hang looking straight down unnerved me. After all, I am not a spring chicken anymore. But, I after to admit. This ride DID look very cool and it we return next year I might, might, might be convinced to take the plunge.

There were actually a lot of people in the queue and we probably waited between 20 to 30 mins to get on. But once we were in there was no turning back.

But we did have it with German beer!
I think we just split a slice - something to tide me over till I got home to my left over crab a bella!

We stopped in the gift shop in Italy. Isn't this the coolest mask?
I finally found a souvie that was in line with our budget conscious trip. I found the coolest onion holder. It was in a pretty sunflower pattern and the best part - 75% off. So for $4.50 I managed to find a practical solution for onion storage (since Denny grows them and they are usually hanging upside down on my back porch). sorry - no pic, but it is cool and I love it.
As we were walking by Apollo's chariot I realized we still had time to ride it. My onion holder fit right inside the locker and *BAM* we were on the coaster. In fact, we got to ride it twice before the park.....CLOSED!
Bummer. Couldn't it just stay open another hour?
Oh well - I got a few more pictures on the way out.

I actually considered upgrading our one day ticket to a 2 year annual pass. I think they were just under $300 and they are good at all the A-Busch parks. It includes free parking, which is a nice perk. I figured we could go to seaworld in June and back to BG in August. But, I decided against it. I will wait to do an AP once Denny and I can take two week vacations. There are so many good promos out there that I figured I would just wait a year or two.

You impressed me with your B&M knowledge. I used to work for Six Flags, so I'm well versed in coaster. It's always nice to see someone who does. As a whole, B&M and Intamin are my favorites coasters normally. Smooth and consistent.

I am glad you enjoyed it. I work for awhile to get the whole day posted to night. My son went over to his friends and came back two hours later to say, "You are in the exact same spot where I left you".
When my kids got to roller coaster age I was very afraid of flipping upside down. I really had to ease into it, so I read about coasters a lot. I find them fascinating. I think the first time I was flipped was on the Great Bear which is a coaster at Hershey Park. that's how I learned about B&M coasters. I started reading about other B&M coasters and I've never been on one that I didn't like. They have some (or at least one) at Dorney park, which is also in Pa. They are very, very smooth. I actually didn't know until tonight that they Griffin is also a B&M coaster.
It was a great day. I didn't really post my final thoughts about the park, but I think its obvious we had a great day and I would definitely go back in late August. Perfect time to visit!

Great photos of Busch Gardens, Mary Ellen. I have to say you are a braver woman than me doing ANY of the roller coasters. We went to BG in Tampa in 2007 and at that time I would have been game for the coasters; however, 75% of the park was closed for refurb, not working, etc., and we didn't get on any. Now, I just can't do them without getting a really bad headache.

It really was a great day. It's not Disney, but there was still so much to see and do. And how can you not love a day with fantastic weather and low crowds?

Oh Kathy - I hear ya' I totally get the coaster headache. There have been times where I couldn't ride at all. We went on a band trip to Kings Dominion and my head hurt everytime I went on the wooden coasters. I couldn't even think about going on a scarier one. And one year at Dorney Park I had to wait 30 minutes between rides because of my head. I guess I just lucked out on this particular day.
But the second my head starts to hurt, I stop.It was a perfect day. Loved it!

Great update of BG! My very first upside down roller coaster was Alpengeist on a band trip in 2000! When we moved to VA Beach in 2009, we got a 1 year 2 park season pass. BG is a beautiful park, they get rated every year as one of the most beautiful landscaped parks..in the springtime their tulips and lillies are outstanding. Blake's family lives about 25 mins from BG, and they say Griffon isn't as bad as Apollo's Chariot, but I have riden Lochness and it's not that bad at all and I'm totally not a roller coaster rider! We would go sometimes just to do the Celtic Show and walk the park, it's just a great park overall!
I hope you girls have a blast in HH!! We lived about 3 miles from the VA Beach oceanfront before we moved back to Maryland so I'm interested in what all you saw there!
BTW...Salisbury today..OMG, Seagull Square is HUGE!! The bookstore was open today for parents weekend and I stocked up on new tshirts, looks like Nike picked them up and they had an awesome selection! Have a great trip!!

That's very cool that you started to really look into coasters. I've never been on a B&M that I didn't like either. Apollo's Chariot is basically a replica of Raging Bull, which is at Six Flags Great America (which is the park in Chicagoland that I worked at). While I worked there, we did the commercial shoot for the ride, and I rode it 68 times in one day! Talk about an experience. But it's still on of my favorites. I got to meet some of the individuals that worked for B&M because I also worked the media day. It was very cool.
Most coasters, B&M included, can be identified by their track. It's like a signature. If you compare the track of all the B&M's that you know, they're all the same or similar. It's how the companies identify themselves I guess. Yup, I'm a dork.
