Thanks Bill! That's great information. I am impressed with your southeastern grape knowledge. :worship:
If it's about adult beverages and the making thereof, I'm your guy! Wanna know how to make moonshine? :lmao:

So, tell me this - should I have tried the jelly. Now I'm a little disappointed that I didn't buy it.

Yup, shoulda tried it. This is the muscadine grape...

Next time I make it to Natchez, MS, I'll get you a bottle from The Old South Winery.

Terrific update, MaryEllen. The yacht in your picture looks like several of the ones we've seen on the bay in Marco Island.

I love the "Who Let the Girls Out" shot glass...very cool (all three of you should have gotten one).

Your sunset pictures are beautiful.

Loved the sunset photos! No kayak for this chick, I don't swim very well, thus I must be in a large boat!

Wow, single digits, must be nice!!

I was visiting friends in Ky. this weekend. Opened the jar of moonshine soaked cherries that I got in Gatlinburg, did they ever make a glass of Coke sing!!:lovestruc

Can't wait to see the Charleston pictures. That's another place that I need to visit.

Wow the tree lined roads look really pretty and I can imagine they looked even better in person!

Beautiful! What a special place HHI is.

Lol at sending the pic of L in front of the MASSIVE yacht to send to her DH! :rotfl: You are giving me ideas on how to talk my way around on any future big purchases.

Whatever it takes, right? :thumbsup2 I just couldn't believe the size of that yacht. I was dumfounded.

Loving the pics of the views...they are making me a bit jealous as I am sat here on my computer looking out at a dark, rainy, miserable Manchester

Well, the weather here hasn't been too great either and its hard to believe that was just 5 weeks ago. How I long for the warmth. I think I am meant to be a southerner. :rolleyes1

You can never have too many sunset pics especially when they look as good as that...love the food you guys ordered as well.

Hilton Head was probably the best place I ever been for sunsets. Pretty amazing and I'm so glad I got to enjoy so many gorgeous views. Not something I see where I live, that's for sure.

If it's about adult beverages and the making thereof, I'm your guy! Wanna know how to make moonshine? :lmao:

Really now - well, I would think that could be a handy skill to have. Moonshine - I'm not so sure about, though! :rotfl: It conjures up visions of being passed out somewhere for two days. :rotfl:

Darn. I wanted to buy it, but I wasn't sure if I just wanted it because it was on sale. I have a habit of being attracted to sale items that I don't need. Oh well, next time.

Now the muscadine wine sounds very, very interesting. ;) I checked out the website. Seriously, I was ready to order if they shipped to Delaware. Denny has tried making plum wine in the past, but the results were variable and it looked like a science project on my dining room table. We both love trying different local wines. Who wouldn't want to try some Bayou Blush!

They even have a recipe for a muscadine margarita. :thumbsup2

Terrific update, MaryEllen. The yacht in your picture looks like several of the ones we've seen on the bay in Marco Island.

I bet San Marco has its fair share of gorgeous yachts. Amazing, aren't they? So much money that I don't have.

I love the "Who Let the Girls Out" shot glass...very cool (all three of you should have gotten one).

Seriously tempting. I thought of the Georgia Peaches when I saw those. We could use them to pose for pictures!

Your sunset pictures are beautiful.

Thanks!

Loved the sunset photos! No kayak for this chick, I don't swim very well, thus I must be in a large boat!

Thanks!

Who is a good swimmer? Seriously, swimming was not a requirement for that tour. If I can do it, you can do it!

Wow, single digits, must be nice!!

Nice indeed, but today I am starting to feel a little overwhelmed with all I have to do before we leave. Deep breath!

I was visiting friends in Ky. this weekend. Opened the jar of moonshine soaked cherries that I got in Gatlinburg, did they ever make a glass of Coke sing!!:lovestruc

:rotfl2: I bet! Now that would be an interesting drink!!!!!!!

Can't wait to see the Charleston pictures. That's another place that I need to visit.

I will definitely update this week. All I can say is Charleston was the most gorgeous city I have ever seen. I absolutely LOVED it!!!!! You've got to go!

Darn. I wanted to buy it, but I wasn't sure if I just wanted it because it was on sale. I have a habit of being attracted to sale items that I don't need. Oh well, next time.

That's too funny, I'm the exact same way! Somehow the 'bargain' makes me want to buy things even more. :rotfl:

Sea Pines, of course, is a gated area which requires an admission fee ($5 I think).

$5 for the peasants to walk around and shop? :sad2:

A whole marina filled with the biggest boats and yachts I personally have ever seen

IMG_0018.jpg

What recession? :confused3 :rotfl2:

I told L that instead of the pocket book, I was going to send her DH a picture of her standing in front of the yacht with the message “Look what L just bought”. After he recovered from that shock he wouldn’t care if she bought a $250 beaded handbag to use once!

:rotfl: You totally should have done it!

The view from the lighthouse was wonderful.

I see a little bit of the golf course...I usually watch the tournament on TV. (I know, right? Who watches golf on TV? What can I say?) Wouldn't mind playing that one, but I don't want to take out a 2nd mortgage.

Ok - so maybe Harbour Town is a tourist trap, but I have to say that it is a nicely done tourist trap!

Well, so is Disney World, if you wanna be totally honest. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

Wow – I arrived right on time! The sunset was gorgeous. I took a bunch of pictures with the boats in the background.

Once again, the sunset pictures are FANTASTIC! :thumbsup2

Great update! That tree lined street is so pretty!

Wow I can't believe all of those yachts!

Harbour Town looks like a cute little place to visit! I love the sunset pics! :)

/
The pictures of the yachts are fun. In Jupiter,Florida there are some really posh yachts like that. So lovely to look at, but too costly to own!:scared1: Like I'll ever know what that's like!:rotfl2:

I bought some local wine last week, Cherry Chocolate Truffle. So very delish!

That's too funny, I'm the exact same way! Somehow the 'bargain' makes me want to buy things even more. :rotfl:

It's a disease - I'm telling you! :lmao: I'm trying to break the habit! :rolleyes1

$5 for the peasants to walk around and shop? :sad2:

Seriously, that's "almost" how I felt. :rotfl:

What recession? :confused3 :rotfl2:

I find it somewhat disturbing that someone who profits from nursing homes and rehab centers owns that really big yacht. I know its a business, but I always think of health care as non-profit. Surely, its not the case with nursing homes. Clearly, there is no recession in that marina!!!!

:rotfl: You totally should have done it

:rotfl: You think? ;) Acutally, L's DH is pretty cool so he would have gone right along with the joke.

I see a little bit of the golf course...I usually watch the tournament on TV. (I know, right? Who watches golf on TV? What can I say?) Wouldn't mind playing that one, but I don't want to take out a 2nd mortgage.

I know there are a lot of fabulous golf courses on the island and I bet they are all lovely. But, you're right, super expensive as well.

Well, so is Disney World, if you wanna be totally honest. :rolleyes1 :rotfl2:

True, true. But there is something about Disney World that totally makes you think its NOT a tourist trap, and that's why we all love it so much. KWIM?

Once again, the sunset pictures are FANTASTIC! :thumbsup2

thanks! :goodvibes

Great update! That tree lined street is so pretty!

It really was. There is something about a road lined with live oak trees covered in spanish moss. :lovestruc

Wow I can't believe all of those yachts!

There clearly are many people whose bank accounts are alive and well.

Harbour Town looks like a cute little place to visit! I love the sunset pics! :)

It was definitely a relaxing place to sit and watch the sunset. :goodvibes

4 Days - Are you super excited????? :woohoo: Wait, it's less than that, isn't it?

The pictures of the yachts are fun. In Jupiter,Florida there are some really posh yachts like that. So lovely to look at, but too costly to own!:scared1: Like I'll ever know what that's like!:rotfl2:

Yes - very lovely to look at but I can't imagine what is does cost to own a boat like that. The gas alone? :faint: and then all the people to maintain it. Very extravagant, indeed.

I bought some local wine last week, Cherry Chocolate Truffle. So very delish!

So is it a red wine with a chocolate taste or is it one of those chocolate milk looking wines? It sounds wonderful! I bought something like that in WVa and broke one of the bottles when I got home. I was so upset! :headache:

Fantastic update ME! Great sunset pictures, so incredibly beautiful with the purple coming into play toward the end. I have one like that from Myrtle Beach, SC, one of my favs! :thumbsup2

Your dinner looks delicious! I always have such trouble choosing between the chocolate and the fruit dessert, so it's awesome you all got to have a little tasting of them all1 :goodvibes

It is a cherry wine, so it's sort of a red wine. Can't wait to open it & I will drop some of my moonshine cherries into the glass. I'm enjoying a gin & tonic now! :thumbsup2

So happy that you had fun kayaking. :goodvibes It is so serene and I love to kayak on our lake. It's nice because you can go so close in to shore and I love going through the lily pads and grass. We have a two seater and a one. I like to sit in the back and pretend I am paddling while someone is in the front. :rolleyes1 I know you totally can't see me doing that ;)

Stunning pictures as always. Nice yachts!!! I can't even imagine that lifestyle!!

Are you beyond excited for your trip? :yay: I am excited for you!!! Hope you keep us updated on FB as to where you are at :goodvibes

Ugh - I had my replies part way done and my safari closed. Ughh! :headache:

Thanks - glad you liked! :goodvibes I really enjoyed that sunset - it was lovely and maybe one of these days I'll actually turn one of those pictures into a "real" picture in frame. That would be novel.

I can't remember exactly what we had, but all the flavors worked together really well. It was a yummy treat and I dug right into it as soon as we got home. :rolleyes1

A cherry chocolate wine? Yum! That sounds delish, especially with the moonshine cherry. ;)

Gin & tonic sounds pretty good right now too.

It must be great to have your own lake. I would love that. I don't know if there is really any place "safe" to kayak here, although I am surrounded by the Delaware bay, Chesapeake bay, and a bunch of small creeks. I really did enjoy it and would love to try it again.

No - I totally can't see you pretending to paddle. :rolleyes1:rotfl2:

Stunning pictures as always. Nice yachts!!! I can't even imagine that lifestyle!!

Those yachts were beyond nice. They were pretty amazing. I tried to get some pictures of the inside of one of them, but I was starting to feel like a paparazzi or a stalker. Take your pick. :rotfl:

Tracy

I am really looking forward to my trip, but the anticipation gets all mixed up with the "getting ready for Christmas" stress. I remember from last time I visited WDW in December that this is not a good time to go, but I know I'll love it the second I arrive!

So, I had good intentions of doing an update tonight but its going to have to wait until tomorrow. So many good updates out there that I just spent the last hour reading and not updating. And I still have some TR's to catch up on.

That's what I did the other day. :lmao::lmao:

Can't believe your trip is just five days away.

Still reading, still enjoying, still loving the pics and feeling like I'm along on your travels!

Wishing you a fabulous trip to Disney!!

4 now! :woohoo: Woo Hoo! We are all struggling a bit to get all the last minute things done, but can't wait!:santa:

Still reading, still enjoying, still loving the pics and feeling like I'm along on your travels!

Wishing you a fabulous trip to Disney!!

So glad you are still here and enjoying this TR which I hope to have done BEFORE I left, but now have no chance.

Thanks for much for the well wishes!!!!!

Charleston – I have heard so many people say what a beautiful city Charleston is and that's no lie. I fell in love with it from the first moment I saw it. Several hours into my morning I decided it had to be the most beautiful city I have ever seen. Read on........

Thursday October 27

The decision was made – today was Charleston day and we all got up promptly and were out the door by 7:30am. I skipped my run today, which was just as well because my hip was bothering me.
I knew P was getting tired of driving, so I offered to drive. I think it took us a little over 90 minutes to get there, and that included a stop at a convenience store. Again, our trusty GPS took us to a high rise parking lot adjacent to the Historic Area Visitor Center. We decided to focus all our efforts on the historic district. There are so many things to see and do in Charleston, but with only a day to do it, we needed to be selective.

The Visitor Center is quite lovely. We really didn’t need much information, although I’m sure we picked up a brochure or two. P and L had already figured out where we were heading. We decided that paying for the trolley in Savannah was a waste of money, since we hardly even used it. Today we would set out on foot. Although by the looks of this map it is obvious that Charleston has great, free public transportation.

IMG_0142.jpg

I immediately started taking pictures, although I had no idea what I was taking pictures of.

We just don't have fountains like this on every corner up here in the northeast.

IMG_0146.jpg

IMG_0153-1.jpg

It didn't take long to find a beautiful church

IMG_0148.jpg

Flowers in late October. We sure don't have that up here
IMG_0156-1.jpg

Cool old building
IMG_0157.jpg

I’m pretty sure we walked right by the University of Charleston.

IMG_0158-1.jpg

IMG_0160-1.jpg

You know I'm a volunteer firefighter, right?

IMG_0166.jpg

(cause I'm in the marching band)

Before too long we were passing Hymans Seafood. Jackie (Charleston Princess) told me this was the place to go for food. Too bad it wasn’t anywhere near lunch time.

IMG_0169.jpg

I actually stopped here on the way back to the car much later that day and bought Denny a bottle of wine

IMG_0171.jpg

Sorry, I couldn't resist

IMG_0161-1.jpg

It didn't take long to find one of these.
IMG_0167-1.jpg

IMG_0179.jpg

We stopped at the Market Place where I picked up a small sweet grass basket. Read more about Sweet grass baskets here http://www.charlestonsweetgrass.com/ If you are curious about price I did note that the prices here are representative of what they were charging at the market. They did act willing to do some negotiations, but the price was still more than I wanted to speed.

I did see a necklace I liked. It was called a rice bead necklace. Here are some pics http://www.bing.com/images/search?q...C5B9984DC53935612C6FBF9C4366D7E6C8F01&first=0
Again, the necklace I liked was just a little bit more than what I wanted to spend. I did end up buying a small caliber rope sterling silver necklace for my beads and slides. They did not negotiate other than to wave the sales tax. L bought a ring.

I had actually forgotten that some cruise ships sail out of Charleston

IMG_0173.jpg

Our next stop was this church and cemetery. It had so much character. I couldn’t resist taking a bunch of pictures.

I didn't feel comfortable taking pictures inside the market, but I did grab a couple sweetgrass basket picture on the street

IMG_0206.jpg

IMG_0227.jpg

sorry - don't remember the name of this park or the person in this statue

IMG_0209.jpg

IMG_0210.jpg

Ah - here's a clue

IMG_0211-1.jpg

I just like this shadow. Interesting thing about the lamps - many of they were light all day and night because its easier than having to re-light them every night.

IMG_0214.jpg

I haven't seen one of these in awhile....a LONG while

IMG_0215-1.jpg

Then we found St. Michael’s church were we went inside to take a few pictures.

If you haven't already noticed, I have this thing about old churches. I think they are so beautiful and they have so much character. It doesn't hurt that they are also the house of God. There is something comforting about being in a church. They are peaceful. I feel my worries fade.

Pretty house on the street - I love this house.

Is that a Patriots flag?

What a pretty, little garden

The next stop was the Nathaniel Russell House

Admission for this house was $10. There was a beautiful garden, so I took some pics while waiting

IMG_0241-1.jpg

IMG_0245-1.jpg

These statues have seen better days
IMG_0248.jpg

See what I mean

IMG_0249.jpg

If you don't see this pic its because it was censored by the DIS boards.

IMG_0250-1.jpg

This was a wonderful tour. The house had a gorgeous staircase. What I thought was so interesting is that all the entertaining was done upstairs. The downstairs rooms were very modest because visitors were not meant to see them. Everything was upstairs. YOu can also see in this picture that is was quite in vogue to put a room with curved walls in the house. It was a sign of wealth and prestige.

IMG_0251.jpg

Another thing I remember was that all women were required to learn to play a music instrument with proficiency as part of their schooling. Can you imagine that being a requirement nowadays.

I loved this house and, although I felt a little uptight with the “no touch, no picture” thing, I thought our tour guide was lovely. She was clearly a senior, but she had a beautiful speaking pattern and was dressed impeccably. Plus, she really knew her stuff.

One last picture of the gate as we were leaving

IMG_0253-1.jpg

One last picture of the house

IMG_0255.jpg

We continued to walk to the end of this road which brought us right up to the water

A few more pictures along the way
