This is probably one of those questions that really have no good answer but more of a vent.

So the husband of the missing Utah women, Susan Powell is looking more and more like suspect #1. He is now a "person of interest". His camping alibi is beginning to have holes in it. The police say they now believe wife was a victim of "foul play"

disclaimer: He is not charged with anything yet.

How many times do we see these missing young women and it turns out to be the husband has done some thing awful to her.

Jeez, if the situation is that horrible why not just leave? get a divorce? any thing but hurt some one.

Usually it comes down to money. They don't want to pay child support to keep up two homes, so they convince themselves that if they can eliminate the spouse, they get out of that AND pick up a nice life insurance windfall.

There is also a certain amount of looking for sympathy and attention involved, too. A man who has just lost his wife gets a lot of nice treatment from everyone around him. Double if he lost a wife AND kids.

Often boils down to money. People don't want to have to pay alimony and child support that comes from a divorce. Chillingly just finds it easier to kill that person instead. Murderer has selfish, narcissictic, and/or sociopathic tendencies.

I'm going to have to agree with this one. Money. It's bad enough that they will detest that person for the rest of their life, now they have to pay money to the person they hate. It can be enough to make someone snap.

Unborn babies too. Statistics show murder is the #1 reason of death for pregnant women. Its because a baby ties 2 people together for life.

But let's be truthful, the fact of the matter is you don't have to pay child support. What I mean is how many single moms are there who don't recieve a dime from the dad? I know legally they are required to but nowadays dead beat dads are not shocking anymore.

While it's true that you don't HAVE to pay child support, there are often personal consequences if you don't pay it. Incarceration, losing your driver's license, your professional license, having your wages garnished, having your tax return garnished, etc. Not to mention the $$$ you might spend hiring an attorney to defend you on non-support charges. The narcissistic/sociopathic/selfish person wouldn't want to have such things happen to THEM, so it's simply easier to murder what they see as the problem.

Luckily, the kids are safe.

The news was saying there were financial difficulties. I will never understand how people can get violent over money.

That's actually an oft-reported urban myth. Pregnant women in the US are about eight times as likely to die of medical causes (such as bleeding during childbirth) than they are of homicide. Car accidents come second, and homicide comes third.

3) Good Morning America needs better fact checkers.

If Regis were to state that office workers were ten times more likely to grow horns than those people who worked in restaurants, I would not automatically believe him.

1) They don't have to pay her money.
2) They get the kids (if they want the kids.)
3) In their eyes it appears better to be the wronged party than the one who did wrong. If they think they can get away with the murder and say "She ran off" then the guy is the victim in the eyes of his family and he gets attention. If he divorces her, he's the bad guy. If she divorces him, he may feel he's still the bad guy.
4) They think the family is the cause of all their problems and if they can get rid of the family and start over they can get what they want.

Most men aren't sociopaths and don't go through this sort of thinking where it's better to kill somebody than lose your money or look like a bad guy or a failure.

Just because one sees stories on the news doesn't mean that as a percentage of the population, pregnant women are in more danger of homicide just becuase they are pregnant. News organizations like to emphasize stories with a hook, and a pregnant woman murdered is an infallible news hook.
