Why Not Animation Magic Over Crush?

With both the Fantasy and the Dream doing shorter sailings more often out of FL, why do you think they keep the Crush show over Animation Magic as the default AP show? I kept hearing new cruisers talking about Animation Magic (I'm guessing they had watched videos about it) and they were disappointed to find out it was Crush. What do you prefer? I think the Crush show is cute (depends on how Crush is feeling that day & also if you are lucky enough to interact with him IMO) but the Animation Magic is pure DCL magic and something very special.

If you had to do one show or the other, Crush or Animation Magic, which would you want on your sailing?

I like them both. But my drawing skills leave much to be desired, so it embarrasses me to have my drawing up there.

I have no knowledge of reasons behind the decision. But I can think of a few possible reasons:
  • The Crush show is much easier on the serving team than Animation Magic, since they don't have to do anything extra (gather papers, redistribute them, stay out of the way of the show). Therefore, it's better when the servers are already used to the parties and what they're likely to want.
  • Because Animation Magic is popular, it could encourage people to consider booking a longer cruise so they can experience it.
  • The Crush show may be more appealing to young kids, whose families are likely to start cruising on the shorter cruises.

Especially now that they've got rid of the pre-set appetisers that would generally be served when Animation Magic was being performed (or at least they have on the Wonder). Having everyone be served the same dishes cut down quite a bit of workload for the servers when they also had to take the artwork then re-distribute it later on.

I really don’t like the Crush show but love Animation Magic.

On shorter sailings on both the Wonder and Magic, they ran Animation Magic when I sailed. (4 x since COVID.) The Dream a few weeks ago had Crush. I would prefer them to mix it up and maybe have the Dream showing Crush and the Fantasy having Animation Magic so you see different shows on shorter cruises and it’s another draw (didn’t mean to pun lol) to sail each ship.

I agree than Animation Magic is a more fun show. My guess is that it creates more work and uses more resources than Crush, so they prefer to run it less often.

Interesting. I have been 3x time on the Magic in the last 18 months and the "standard" show is the one where Sorcerer Mickey walks around the room at the end. My understanding is that Animation Magic is supposed to be on 7+ nights only. Very lucky!

Animation magic is harder on the servers. They have to wrangle all the drawings, have parts of meals served at certain times, be ready to interact with the show - all while simultaneously doing their regular jobs. It also takes longer for dinner that night.

We aren’t big fans of either, honestly.

On your rotation was Sorcerer Mickey the first night you were in Animators ? or did it change nights depending on length of cruise? and Crush was a different night

We were in Animators one night only during our cruise and were both VERY disappointed about it being Crush. I had no idea that would be the case or I would have requested a different rotation, our only other cruise was a 7 night and I don’t think we had Crush at all during my that one.

My daughter would have loved the animation show.

It probably would not have made a difference if you had a different rotation. On cruises of 3 nights or longer, each dining room has a show/specific menu on the same number of nights (1 or 2 on most cruises) and then on the other nights (if any) every dining room has the same menu. So it's unlikely that one rotation will get Animation Magic and another rotation won't on the same cruise.

Oh I meant in relation to pirate night. That's assuming that they did the pirate decor in there on pirate night.

Honestly, if we do another shorter cruise we will probably skip animators. We actually skipped dinner a couple nights, it took way too long for us this cruise.

The one on Magic is on all cruises. However, the one on Dream/Fantasy is 7+ nights
Sailed a 5-nighter on the Magic in August 2024 - not there, Sailed on a 6-nighter on the Magic in December 2023 - not there, Sailed on the Magic on a 5-nighter in June 2023 - not there... So I would not say all cruises on the Magic

On a 7 nighter or more on the Magic, Sorcerer is first. On something less than 5 nights, I have only had Sorcerer, and they would not put up Animation the 2nd time, as not everybody goes through it. On the Fantasy and Dream, I have only had Crush on itineraries that are less than 7 nights, but yes, have done Animation Magic during the cruise 2nd half on 7 or more night cruises on those two ships

I’m surprised you didn’t get it on the 6 night cruise. When I sailed a 6 night cruise on the Dream, we had both AP shows (we did not have the Pirate Menu that cruise.)
