Why no walkup counter service at SSR?

First of all, my family and I are big fans of SSR. We really enjoy ourselves there, and plan on more trips there in the future.

However, I do find it hard to believe that a resort the size of SSR doesn't offer a walkup-style counter service eatery. Yes, I know that Artist's Palette is conisidered to be counter service, and they have an interesting menu at relatively reasonable prices. And yes, I also realize that DTD is just a short trip away, with McDonald's and E.O.S. there. But there are times during the course of a stay when it's nice to be able to make a quick pitstop for a fruit cup, burger, or ice cream, the way you can at Hurricane Hanna's (BCV) or Goods to Go (OKW).

Sometimes Artist's Palette can be downright packed, and it can be a real chore to get what you want quickly. This is understandable since SSR is easily the largest DVC resort. I think that Disney just figured that guests would frequent DTD for it's variety of food options, but that is not very convenient when you just want a quick bite.

I think that Disney made a mistake in assuming that Artist's Palette would adequetly serve such a large resort. That said, it certainly won't prevent us from returning.

I am not sure what it is you are asking, as SSR does have counter service.

If you are commenting you can't get a burger, then it is simply menu choices, and I prefer the SSR menu to the burger and fries offer elsewhere.

If it is quickness, depends on when you go. We have gone to AP and very quickly gotten food.

So I guess I am confused to your complaint.

I noticed your BWV siggie and as a another BWV family who have stayed at SSR, we felt like we were in heaven having AP as an option during our stay at SSR.

Having absolutely no such options at BWV has been a large negative, in an otherwise wonderful experience at BWV, for us. It's truly a hassle to just even get a drink refill or a muffin for breakfast at the Boardwalk Bakery as the lines are out the door all morning and afternoon.

It's also why we prefer our VWL Home to our BWV home.

It's also why we enjoyed SSR so much!

Sammy, I wasn't asking anything. What I was doing was stating an opinion, which is that one counter service restaurant is not enough for such a large resort. Artist's Pallete can be very busy, and I believe that a second should have been built (like Hurricane Hanna's at BCV) offering a more traditional American quick-service menu.


diznyfanatic, I couldn't agree with you more about BWV. We love it there, but the lack of a counter service place has been confounding to us, as well.

I'm confused also with your statement. You can get items from the refrigerated case or the pastry/bakery case and pay for these at the checkout without even waiting to order them. There is almost nothing at BWV. OKW only has Goods to go which still requires that you wait your turn (Turtle Shack is only open seasonally and they have a very limited menu). You do have Hurricane Hannah's at SAB, but that's serving YC/BC and BCV. Everyone goes to Beaches and Cream, so the wait there is very long. VWL shares Roaring Forks with WL.

If you really need a sandwich, you can go over to Earl of Sandwich or McDonalds or Wolfgang Puck Express.

I like the fact that Artist Palette has a different menu than all the other places.

I totally agree. We popped into AP several times for quick snacks from the bakery and refrigerated cases. Something I don't care for though is having the gift shop side and restaurant side checking out at the same place. I had to stand in line for what seemed like forever just to purchase a SSR coffee mug.

I think the bigger issue here is that AP shares it's registers with the gift shop. I constantly wait in line with a tray full of food, while a Castmember is helping someone find the right size sweatshirt. I think the new model is to combine the resort giftshops with the counter service to save on payroll. A stupid idea as far as I'm concerned.

I think the bigger issue here is that AP shares it's registers with the gift shop. I constantly wait in line with a tray full of food, while a Castmember is helping someone find the right size sweatshirt. I think the new model is to combine the resort giftshops with the counter service to save on payroll. A stupid idea as far as I'm concerned.

I don't like that either, there should be separate registers for food and "stuff"-at least during peak mealtimes.

There is Tubbie's Buffeteria at the Dolphin. Although it is a bit of a walk from BWV.

While it's nice to have choices such as those that AP offers, I also miss being able to grab a burger and fries. I also think that it is much too small for a resort of SSR's size. We love the food court at Pop much better. But, I also agree, it's better than the NO food court offered at BW.

as most know DVC has a full Kitchen in 1BR and 2 BR and a kitchenette in the studios I think they intended on a good number of people cooking etc. I think all of the DVC resorts are lacking as far as food is concerned as it is either a long walk and or limited offerings. I am like a seeming increasing number of DVC owners who does not use the kitchen period except for some drinks. I also think if there is money to made Disney will expand on the offerings. I am also least impressed with BW I do enjoy the bakery but there is only so many times you have the same thing..(I will galdly have some now though) But on the other hand the service is slow at the other resorts making it a wash and worth it for the most part to eat at a park or DTD for us.

The pool bar at the Grandstand area stocks some sandwhiches and snacks. It's limited as far as selection, but it's something if you don't want to leave the pool and go to your room or main area. I also don't know if they are going to keep the bar open once the summer ends. But it was nice when we were there in June.
