Why no trams?????

I agree that the walk back to the parking lot is long at night when you (and your feet!) are tired, but i'd rather be moving towards my car than standing in a bus queue or tram queue.

Nothing is worse than waiting for your bus/monorail/steamboat and STILL having to standing room only once you finally get on!

I'd rather be walking too!

I can honestly say I was worried about the walking when we went this summer with our kids. Having toured Disney the past two years in a double stroller (twins) at age 4 and 5, we were concerned. However, we had the 7 day/2 park pass and never once did I carry a child out of the park in my arms, nor to the car. The peoplemovers were a blessings, it was like a whole new ride to them. In fact, they probably like them as much as some of the rides. Now, let's talk about walking to the bus stop at Disney, that's another story. Leave the stroller at the gate and still have to walk another 25 miles to the bus stop and then wait for a bus at the end of an evening. Now, talk about a tired and cranky dad!!!

i do the motherland and the darkside each trip i take to orlando every year.


i would rather do the walk of up to 15 minutes from the darkside park to the garage/hotel than the 1 hour travel time from a disney park to another disney park.

yes, one hour last year from Ak to sports resort and then wait at the bus stop at the resort for a bus to the mk............one hour, i timed it.

when i would rent a car, it was a 4 minute drive from sports resort to ak.
the drive from that resort to mk was only 10-13 minutes. then a tram from the parking lot to the monorail or boat dock.....then on to the mk park...


anyhoot, once at the park i forget about that walk.........


i hate the new colors.
too bright........need shades to read the threads.....

Not only that but I don't like having to peel my butt off the leather seats when my car is baking in the FL sunshine all day! It ain't pretty folks...I've been known to scare small children.

OK. I was saving this for the "secrets" thread but it makes sense to post it here. Here goes...
When you arrive in the garage go to whatever level and row you are instructed to go to. Normally at the time I arrive the attendant is just pointing down a row so you can drive right through and head for the exit.
However, if you arrive at a busy time and attendants are filling every spot you have a choice to make...
1) park in the spot you are instructed to, wait a minute or two while other spots fill, then pull out and start heading toward the exit.
OR
2) tell the parking attendant that you "forgot your tickets" (or wife, kids etc) and ask to head to the exit.
Here is the secret part. As you are heading toward the exit of the level you are on you will notice that all of the arrows from the parking rows are pointing towards your exit lane. Keep going. When you get to the very last row BEFORE exiting the parking level you will see an arrow pointing back into the parking area. Turn into that row. You are heading toward the handicap spots but you are in a row that is regular parking. Just park in the closest regular spot to the handicap spots. Often times my car is one of only three or four over there. Enjoy the shortest possible walk to the people movers

I was at Disney last week and it took 1 hour 15 minutes to get from Downtown Disney to the TTC. It was at that point that I swore I was not doing Disney again without a car!

We were at USO yesterday and I intentionally paid attention to the walk back to the garages. I see what the OP what saying... I was tired, cranky, hot, and the Coke-Icee machine was broken It is a haul back to garages, but USO has done a great job making every attempt to comfort guests as best as possible. I still don't see how a tram would work... there's just simply no place to put one.

When I originally posted this thread, I must have still been on my "Disney High" Now that I think about it, there would be no place for trams/busses/rides.....back to the cars. My only problem was that it IS such a loooong walk back, regardless of the walkways, "reliving the day" chat, stopping at citywalk....... I guess we tend to stay onsite at Disney, and we do take our own car to the parks, except for Magic Kingdom. We've never had any long waits for trams, monorails or busses. But that is just our own experiences. I told DH that our only chioce next time..(and, yes, there will be a next time at US/IOA) is to stay ONSITE and forget about that God awful walk to the garage.

We weren't keen on the walk back - end of day/tired etc, so we just decided on budgeting for valet parking - that way you don't have to hunt for your car at the end of the day, just take a left down the stairs next to the moving walkways as you come up from citywalk costs a few extra $ than regular parking + tip, but well worth it IMO :

I had a friend that went to US and she stayed at the DoubleTree and they walked everyday from the Doubletree to the parks and back. They didn't like the shuttle the hotel offered because the hours were not good. We stay onsite so I am clueless how far that is.

Last year me and my girlfriend walked from idrive (near wet & wild) to the parks everyday and will do the same this year. The only times we bothered getting a cab was a few times after HHN.

Years ago, before we started staying on-site, we just paid the extra few dollars and valet parked. They still offer that option and we would take advantage of that again if we were to stay off-site which probably won't happen since the express pass is totally worth the stay.

don't laugh but there are busses that run from the park to the onsite hotels.

i stay at hrh and took it one time.

i could have been in my room within 10 minutes but it took me 25 by taking the bus........

the real reason i took the bus was to see the all the hotels lit up at night.
you go to the entrance of the hotel for pick up and drop offs from the park.
