Why no Mulan or Pocahontas?

We were at WDW last week and my DD14 and I noticed the absence of Mulan or Pocahontas during parades or character meet and greets. We know that Pocahontas is not 'PC' so that may be the reason for her absence....but Mulan?

I told my DD that my DIS friends would know....

We see Mulan frequently in China at EPCOT. Pocahontas is usually to be found at AK (Refiki's whatever thing that you take the train to. . .brain fart).

In the parades, they only have so much room, so I assume they go w/ the most popular characters.

You can meet Mulan at Epcot in China. I know you used to be able to see Pocahontas at AK in her show (and I believe meet her afterwards), but that show closed a little while back.

Pochontas also has a prominent part in Fantasmic and until about 2 years ago stared in her own show at AK. She may not be 'pc' to some people but Disney does not share in that view.

Agree with that - we have seen Mulan most trips in China and we have actually seen Pocohontas at the Camp Minnie Mickey party thing they do in AK as well (but not all the time) - I think that's called Camp Good Times when they do it.

Mulan can be found at the China pavilion in Epcot, while Pocahontas "lives" at Disney's Animal Kingdom -- appearing at both Rafiki's PlanetWatch and the Good Times Gathering Spot.

They generally do not appear in the parades or princess breakfasts, mostly because they are the least popular of the Disney princesses, and Guests tend to want to see the "royal princesses" as opposed to Mulan and Pocahontas (and, to a certain extent, Jasmine). Basically, they want the princesses with ballgowns over those without.

:earsboy:

Mulan is in china in Epcot, and occasionally in DHS's animation studio meet and greet area (where we saw her). Pocahontas though I've never looked for.

That reminds me we saw Pochontas at the animation studio meet in DHS twice last year. I think it was in Feb and May (could have been August but not 100% sure).

Saw her at Rafiki's Planet Watch in April 2010.

I'm looking forward to possibly having dd meet Mulan in Epcot (China) in June 2011.

JLR, thanks for posting your photo! Pretty girls! :goodvibes

Thanks! Of course I always think my daughter is beautiful. I especially like that Pocahontas was being strong in the picture - look at her fist.

My daughter was Pocahontas 2 years for Halloween and we had a Pocahontas party (complete with pin-the-tail on Meeko), so we didn't mind the ride out to rafiki's planet watch. (Although the wait for the train was the second longest wait of the whole trip!)

Well...Mulan is technically not a princess, she married the general or something like that. I don't know why neither of these movies are played up in the park any more. It probably has to do with the fact that they are focusing more on promoting the new movies then these older ones :confused3

Thanks, all! Clearly we just weren't at the places where Mulan and Pocahontas hang out :) Made it to China but didn't see her and our time in AK was shorter and was quite packed so we didn't just wander....

Glad to know they are alive and well!

I can usually find Pocahontas at AK, I know I saw her in September, as well as Meeko the racoon. Mulan is almost always in China, and is usually at the princess meal at Akershus as well. I've also seen them both at the Studios, though I don't think that's a regular location for either of them.

We saw Pocahontas at Ak on 12/20 at about noon in the area that she used to do her show. They are having a dance party with chip and dale, thumper and the girl bunny.

They had Pocachontas set up on the side for meet and greet.

During our past trip (Dec 11-17), we saw Mulan and Pochantas w/ Meeko during Characterpoolza in DHS (non-fantasmic nights).

We also saw Pocahantas in Camp Minnie Mickey. After meeting her our first day, my DS3 looked at her and said, "This is not real Pochantas. She is different." I wondered if he thought her face looked different...nope, "her dress is wrong. She wears a short dress." So my son already prefers women in short dresses than long sleeve/ankle lenght winter-time dresses! haha

We saw Pocohantas at Animal Kingdom. She was in that building they take you on the Jungle Trek on the train. (sorry, I can't think of the name). We saw Mulan at EPCOT in China, but dd3 never saw the movie, and didn't want to wait and see her. Just a tip, if you stop by any guest relations, they will tell you when and where any character you want to see will be, and at what times they will be there. (that is if that character is doing meet and greets at that time)

The only parade with Princesses is the one at MK; neither Mulan or Poca meet there, hence their absence from the parade.

Also, the princesses in CDCT include: Ariel, Belle, Tiana, Cinderella, and Snow White.

Want to talk about the shaft? Aurora and Jasmine! Both are Princesses by their own birth and neither are featured in a parade. Aurora is in DAWM and Jasmine makes an appearance on the steamboat in Fant! The sad thing, they both appear at MK; maybe they just nap during the parade?

On a side note, Mulan was in the parade that predates Block Party: Disney Stars and Motor Cars.

Mulan appears regularly in China at Epcot. Have seen Pocahontas in October at the International Gateway. I think she also appears at Animal Kingdom. It isn't that they never appear anywhere. Disney prefers to use the "classic" Princesses at the meals and for parades.

We saw Mulan last summer in Epcot at the China pavilion right at the opening of World Showcase. She spent a ton of time w/ DD. We saw Pocahontas at Rafiki's Planet Watch along with Jiminy Cricket (I've never seen him in the parks before).
