Why no 2008 BLT points?

Can someone please explain this to me. 2 weeks ago I added on at AKV and in spite of the fact that KIDANI doesn't open until May 2009 (yes my new contract is deeded Kidani), I still received 2008 points although they can not be used until May 2009 when the resort opens. So then why are no 2008 points being offered at BLT. If I buy I have to pay them $16400 and what do I get? Nothing until next year. Why did I get 2008 AKV points and BLT buyers get nothing. Maybe I am just missing something. They are both new resorts being sold a year before they open. Isn't it apples and apples or not?

It's called marketing. If DVD expects high demand, nothing extra will be offered. If sales slow then we'll see developer points, gift cards, etc.

Since BLT wont open until late next year, there is no reason to give 2008 points. Only those with early use years will even get 2009 points.

dianeschlicht,
I think everyone will get 2009 points, it is just that they have to wait until their UY rolls around (i.e. Dec will have to wait until Dec 2009 to get their points).

We have a Dec UY and we are getting Dec 09 points for BLT - and we can use them for our Oct 09 trip, it will kind of be like borrowing, but not exactly.

There are legal limitations. As a timeshare, Disney cannot pre-sell interests or portions thereof that cannot be used or would expire before the resort opens. Moreover, they have to allow for the risk, particularly if you are six months to a year from opening that opening may be delayed somewhat. In other words. they cannot sell a contract where the first one year use period being purchased may expire before the resort is open (and they cannot consider the possiblity of banking points in evaluating the situation). Thus, with a Sep 09 projected opening date, Disney is limited to selling at the very earliest points that begin Oct 08 but doing that creates risks that even that use year will expire before the resort is open if there is delay. They have apparently chosen Feb 09 points as the earliest to sell because it safely avoids unforseen delays in the opening of the resort.

They are developer points that are used as an incentive to get you to buy in when sales are slow. With excitement as high as it is for BLT, I doubt we will see any developer points anytime soon at BLT. On the other hand though, that awesome incentive for AKV is still good until Sunday but my guide said that it is FOR SURE gone on Sunday. (It is the $500 gift card, the $8 off a point, and the matching developer points but you have to add on 100 or more). BLT is far more expensive than the others at this point but Disney is banking that the location, the legacy of the contemporary, and the fact that it is the new hotness will still make it it a great deal. There are people who have been just waiting for this one. I can remember when the price per point was rumored to be $125 per point :scared1: . So for those that were expecting that, $112 with a $5 incentive is looking pretty good at the moment. Hubby and I are just waiting for the perfect 50 point add on contract at a much more reasonable price. It is possible we will see matching developer points but according to my guide Steve, BLT is expected to sell out in 8 months. (I think that is pretty optimistic but he might be right).

What UY have you got as I am guessing if your 08UY goes past May 09 then that is why there are 08UY points.

Claire ;)

Not. If you bought Kidani points you can't use them AT ALL until Kidani opens in May - not even at current DVC properties. If you bought Jambo points you can use them right now for any DVC property.

Your 2008 AKV points just purchased with August 2008 UY are delayed for use until May 2009. There are unable to be used before because Kidani inventory is not available until then and therefore those points cannot be used for reservations before May 2009 at other resorts because that is like "taking rooms away" from those resort's members and not having "reciprocal" rooms available to them at Kidani.

Not all who purchased at Kidani received 2008 UY points either; it depended upon UY month. This will be same scenario with BLT.

I mentioned one of the legal restrictions above about why they are not selling 08 BLT points. That ties into a second one which you and others above mentioned. Until your unit that you buy an interest in is ready for occupancy, they cannot allow you to use your points at the resort for any of the DVC resorts. Disney is legally prohibited from being in an "oversell" situation. At each resort, they can sell only that amount of points which would fill the resort for the year. They cannot be in a situation where the total amount of outstanding points that can be used in any given year exceed the total that could fill the resort for the year (again they can ignore banking and borrowing when determining the issue).

You've explained it much better than I tried to ::yes:: , thanks !
