Why, My Little Guppy Has Groupies! - A Dec. 2013 TR *Completed

Wow, 5 character meets in 2 hours is awesome!! They do such a great job with all of the theming. Landon is so cute, it's hard to pick a favourite - whether he is smiling or sleeping or just not looking too impressed with the camera lol

This update reminded me that I got Monsters U for Christmas and still haven't watched it!

Well despite Alex's non help in posing for the shirt photo, his direction was still a good clue, so I'd give a pass.

OMG that "stare down" picture of Landon at Monsters. Like "Seriously Mom... ENOUGH!!" :rotfl2:

Don't the Streets of America look hideous that time of year in the daytime??? What an amazing transformation it does at night.

Ha, funny that I've never even really noticed all the strollers in Animation Courtyard before. I guess my mind just blocks it out.

How cute is Venelope??? And OMG if Landon thought Sully was big... Ralph is MASSIVE!

"Celebrity Spotting????" I was there that day so I'm really intrigued what I missed.

I was a little surprised we got to see so many characters in such a short period of time. Everyone was waiting in line for TSMM, I guess.:lmao:
Honestly, though, I'd never been much of a character meet person, but it was one of the few things that interested Landon, so we adjusted our plans accordingly. You'll discover that on your trip.:rotfl:

I'm sure I'll get a million more pictures of Landon glaring at me as he gets older.:rotfl2:

I had never noticed the stroller before, either. I pretty much blocked out all baby stuff in Disney before that trip. And probably for good reason; I might've had a heart attack if I knew what I was walking into.:lmao:

The celebrity spotting was at our lunch. I don't know if they were walking around or not. I know from seeing another celebrity on another trip that for rides, they wisk them on and off and through backstage doors right outside the attraction.

Wow, so many character meets in so little time!

I loved your Ralph and Vanellope pics with Landon sleeping, so cute! I really want to meet them before they take them out of there for someone else, I think they would be so much fun! :cool1:

I honestly cannot think of what music they play in Animation Courtyard, and trust me, I'm all about the Disney background music! :rotfl2: I'll have to pay closer attention in September!

Way to throw Landon into the character deep end, Alex.
:lmao::rotfl2:

Let me give you a breakdown of what all of us were thinking right at that moment.

Alex: “YAY! We’re meeting SULLEY!”

Landon: “What the…?!?!”

My Mom: “I wonder what time our lunch is. I could really go for some food right now. My daughter keeps making me skip breakfast, and I’m not okay with that.”

Me: “He’s about to freak out. Any minute now. Look at that face, Landon is going to lose it, oh my gosh what kind of mother am I? Sulley is way bigger in person.”
I love it! :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl:

About a month ago, my mom and I were in a store, and I picked up a large Sulley plush to give to Landon and he freaked out! Needless to say that’s one character we won’t be visiting in May.
Well, just think about what kind of memories he might have of meeting the life size Sully at DHS! :lmao:

And now, we were about to have pictures to put under his nose of his grandson meeting his favorite Disney characters.

I never said my mother and I were nice people.

Effective, perhaps. But not nice.
:lmao: :thumbsup2 Resourceful...

My foot happened to be right next to the food, and I was a horrible person; right as the squirrel grabbed the item, I moved my shoe across the ground.

That poor squirrel jumped three feet in the air and did a little roll mid-air. My mom and I began busting out laughing.
You weren't a horrible person. That's just funny. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl: Those Disney squirrels are too brave. They think they can get food anywhere they want without fear of any repercussions. Somebody has to put them in their place every once in a while!

If we thought the Land’s parking area was brutal….

These bad boys took up what looked like an entire block. Easily 30 or 40 rows of wheels and canopies and mesh storage compartments. It was easily the biggest parking area in all of Walt Disney.
::yes:: The nice thing about this one though, is that there is plenty of room and it is organized in neat rows. It isn't like the one at the land where you have about that many strollers crammed into an area 1/3 the size. :lmao:

Vanellope von Schweetz was loving the fact that Landon was asleep. She kept making tired motions with her hands and telling her handler to keep quiet. It was a cute interaction.
She looks great! And obviously your later observations confirmed that. But it is always nice to see those characters that just give it that little extra touch. :thumbsup2

I was enjoying meeting yet another character, but all I could think of at that moment was, “Oh my gosh, if Landon wakes up right this second… could you imagine? The first thing he’d see would be Ralph’s massive head!”
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Exiting the Animation Building, I checked my phone and saw that it was only about 11:30. 5 character meet and greets in a little over 2 hours. Not bad at all.
Wow... and they were some of the more popular ones too! :thumbsup2

Wow, you did get lots of meets in!!

That picture where you summed up everyone's expressions was hilarious.. Especially your face! :rotfl:

I want to meet Sulley and Mike. I was so dissapointed they weren't out during our trip.

Now that is a whole lotta strollers!

I am a total character meet and greet junkie so that sounds like my kind of morning! Although I would need to add TSM and RNRC in there too, hahaha.

Landon is just too too adorable. Have I mentioned that?

I'm not much of a character meet person either, but the fun interactions in your post have kind of got me reconsidering. I guess I've always kind of felt like there's already SO MUCH to do at Disney World, I've never wanted to spend time waiting for characters. But I'M sure you're right that everything changes when you have kids! Right now I can't imagine ds meeting characters without completely flipping his lid, but maybe in a few years. I've gotta say, I'm impressed with how well Landon did with them!

Wow, I'm joining the list of "not much of a character greet person" but your stories sound so fun, I hope I get to meet a few more this year. Love all the pictures with Landon and all the characters, they're so adorable! (Especially Vanellope "sleeping" next to him! So cute!) That's a great way to spend a morning, and you got so many characters done in such a short time!

I tried to read your update a couple nights ago but Denny was talking and I realized I was just too tired to comprehend. so I'm finally back! Yay!

This is too funny! :rotfl2: Totally cracked me up! :rotfl2: Landon definitely doesn't know what to make of all the characters but, you're right, at least he was freaking out! Fun PP pics!

OMG! This cat is on speed! too funny!

Catching up...

Aw, cute birthday cake! I was actually just thinking it reminded me of the Poly and then you said it. :rotfl:

I think you will have to let Landon sample all different sorts of sweets to determine which ones he likes...

The beach does look fun! Izzy didn't like the sand on the Poly beach, silly girl. :rotfl:

Yay on the cruise!!! :cool1: So jealous! That's on our list for sure.

Trip plans sound great. I'm thinking you're not staying at the Poly since you talk about heading over there for dinner. :scratchin Glad you got the 'Ohana ADR!

Wow, that is sure a lot of character meets for one morning!

While Ralph isn't my favorite character, it was pretty cool to add them to my character bucket list. Since Landon enjoyed meet and greets more than rides, I began seeing way more characters than I ever had before.

I listen to the soundtrack on this one Disney website. They have lists of pretty much everything; even the resort tv channel. :rotfl:

That is a good point. And they're not cute like Disney ducks. Disney ducks can do just about anything and get away with it. Squirrels...just annoying.:rotfl2:

::yes:: The nice thing about this one though, is that there is plenty of room and it is organized in neat rows. It isn't like the one at the land where you have about that many strollers crammed into an area 1/3 the size. :lmao:

I felt like the CM who was working at the stroller parking had to have been a Type A personality. To spend hours organizing and reorganizing strollers into perfect spaced neat rows...:rotfl:

I just knew Landon was about to flip his lid! I thought all those other guests were going to think I was a terrible mother for taking him to meet this gigantic character.:lmao:

Before this, Alex and I would never have jumped from meet to meet, so this was totally new for us. Although, it was kind of nice to do something different in the park, for a change.

Haha, thank you.:goodvibes

I think his age played a huge factor into what he wanted to do. The rides were usually dark and put him to sleep. The characters, at least, had faces and moved around.

Now, though, I'm not sure if he'd be good with meet and greets. Hoenstly, in May, we're taking him to see the face characters and Mickey, and that's it.

Alex and I were only a little sad we weren't riding RNRC back to back. While meet and greets weren't AS fun, it was nice doing something different for a change. We went to parts of the park we never visited before, so that was cool.

Anytime Landon wasn't freaking out we considered a win.:lmao:

I know for a fact we won't be able to meet some of those characters (actually, all those characters) in May, so it was good to have done them on this trip.

Landon has had a bite of ice cream, before, and he seemed taken to it. So I'm guessing he'll enjoy part of O'hana's bread pudding.:rotfl:

Sand is hit or miss with kids. I was expecting Landon to hate it, since he's got a thing with textures, but I guess because it fell right off his hand he didn't mind. I don't think he's going to be a fan of wet sand, though.:rotfl:

A cruise is fun, but it's no Hawaii trip.:rotfl2: Just sayin...

Hmmm, you are very observant when it comes to the resorts....:rolleyes1

For the record I think I have only gotten two new shirts.... maybe it depends if you count the sweatshirt..... the judgement is not appreciated.

His face is really like do you mind?!

Hey he loves his little Sully doll the character is just a big one.

I would have gladly met those two but the wait for them was crazy .... and Parry wasn't even there.

That lot also shares with the Disney Jr. shows I think.

The kid in the Incredibles line had his face painted I think Landon couldn't wrap his head around why he looked so different.

With young children DHS becomes mostly about shows and character meet and greets in our experience. You've got some great ones in! I especially love the pictures of Venellope and her poses with your DS. Very cute!

I didn't even think about the sweatshirt. You have a problem, Babe.

Yeah, I'm sure we'll be visiting Disney Jr. Live in the future. Maybe in May if he keeps watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates.

That Wreck It Ralph meet and greet was pretty fun. It was cool to see the characters have good interactions with the guests.

I never realized how little DHS had to offer to kids before December. On this next trip, we're only planning on spending an hour or two there for that very reason. Our time is put to much better use in parks that have toddler-friendly activities.

Wednesday, December 4th, 2013:

At the end of my last update (which was a million years ago, or so it feels like to me) my group had traipsed from one side of Disney's Hollywood Studios to the other, finding the best of Disney characters to photograph. Seeing as you can stand in front of Tower of Terror, throw a stone, and practically see it land at Lights Motor Action (that's how tiny the park is) my family hadn't really tired ourselves out walking from place to place.

However, we had skipped breakfast and were more than ready for some delicious Disney grub.

While Alex led myself and my mom towards our ADR destination, the sky grew ominously gray.

01 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

I thought for sure we were going to hit a rain shower after lunch, but nope. Florida simply decided to kick in the dreary wintery look for that particular day.

I had reserved us seats at:

02 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

50's Prime Time Café.

Alex and I had split a meal there on our weekend trip in 2012, and we left with really positive feelings towards the place. The atmosphere was cozy, the food was inviting, and price was reasonable.

I felt that after 3 nights of really rich steaks and seafood, it would do us all a world of good to have some traditional home-cooked style food. A nice change from what we had been consuming.

While Alex went inside to ask the hostess if we could check in about 20 minutes early, I glanced up above the Tune In Lounge.

03 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

Doesn't that look like a cozy little apartment?

Would anyone want to live there?

I mean, it'd be above a bar (we could call it Puzzles!) but the location would be convienent. I mean, it's no Epcot home, but it would still be prime real estate.

Imagine...being within walking distance to Rock N Roller Coaster.

And a boat ride away from Via Napoli.

I'd snatch that up in a second if it was offered.

These were my exact thoughts (and statements) as I stood around with my mother.

I've got to wonder if anyone passes by me in the parks and questions my sanity.

I'm sure they do.
:rotfl2:

Right around the time I was painting my mother a mental image of me sitting out on that balcony, coffee cup in one hand, Nook in the other, Alex came back to us (probably much to my mom's relief) and told us that 50's was more than willing to let us in early.

Sweet.

The restaurant had put up some holiday decorations of their own:

04 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

Complete with a foil tree and tacky ornaments.
It was a fun sight to take in as we walked inside.

Even better was hearing my mom groan, "Oh, God, my grandmother had that exact same decoration up every year!"

Looks like Disney hit the nail on the head when it came to authenticity. Eliciting an eye roll and head shake from my mother made my lunch choice completely worth it.

We were led through what felt like a million rooms before our hostess stopped at a table in the back. Anyone else think 50's is a very deceptive building? The front area is so cramped and boxed in, but then the rest of the restaurant just extends and extends to who knows where.

Just my observations.

Alex settled Landon into a highchair near the tv and wall while our server appeared to take our drink orders.

05 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

The movie had just barely hit theaters and already Landon was sucked into the Frozen craze. He loved looking at the characters on the activity sheet. He must've known it was going to be a film he'd get a kick out of. (And he does.)

Our server for this meal was fantastic! I wish I could remember her name, because I'd request her again if I ever returned. She was that good.

She was the epitome of a great Cast Member.

She'd mess around with us a tad, but nothing annoying or over the top; and she handled Landon better than I expected her to. Mind you, she was pregnant and due in the spring, so she was gearing up for parenthood, but even so, she made our meal so much easier.

Little things like putting plates far out of his reach (you'd be amazed how few times this happens in restaurants) giving him spoons to play with, even just standing and talking to him to distract him were the lengths she was going to.

We could tell she was swamped with a half a dozen other tables, and she was running back and forth from the kitchen constantly, but she made us feel like we were her only guests. Never rushed us, told us some of the other antics she pulls on other customers, even answered some of our questions about her job and life in general.

She reminded me a lot of a Disney Cruise Line employee, and my mother and I couldn't stop commending her on how hard she was working at 6 months pregnant.

All around, she made our meal extremely pleasant, and it wasn't hard for us three adults to sit back, relax, and enjoy the delicious food set before us.

My mother's favorite moment of the entire meal occurred right in the beginning, when she realized there was sweet tea on the menu.
One of the only spots in Disney that had real, honest to goodness sweet tea!

My mom let out a little "Yay!" and quickly ordered that. She's the type of person who drinks sweet tea with every dinner. Some folks have their soda, some have their wine, my mom has her sweet tea.

Our server apparently got that kind of reaction a lot when people saw the item on the menu and knew exactly what to do.
She came back with not one, but two glasses for my mother:

"Just in case I don't get back to you before you finish your first one."

I'm telling you, she was amazing.

My mom ordered some onion rings for the table, and they were so delicious that they flew off the plate before I could snap a picture. This was all that was left by the time I remembered to take a photo:

06 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

One lonely onion ring.

For our main dishes, I got the pot roast:

07.jpg

Which is the best of the best, if you ask me. So tender you had to scoop it up. Mmmm.

My mom was overwhelmed with her order of Fried Chicken:

08.jpg

I think, no matter how many visits she makes, my mom will always be surprised by the portion sizes at Disney World.

And Alex, a fan of all the food, got the Sampler Plate:

09.jpg

He also ordered a milkshake, but I guess I figured you all knew what one of those looked like.

Or I didn't want to make you
TOO jealous of us and our food.

Landon got some of my pot roast and a pouch, but he didn't care too much. He had a limitless supply of spoons to entertain him.

10.jpg

Every time he dropped one, that nice server lady brought him a new one. To which he grabbed and began hitting the table and yelling as loud as he could.

If he wasn't 7 months old and cute, it would have been terribly annoying, but back then all the other guests looked over and laughed.
(Now, I'd be taking the spoon away and listening to a meltdown begin. Oh, how 5 months changes everything.)

For dessert, Alex got the S'mores.

11.jpg

I am not a fan of marshmallows at all, so Alex lucked out and didn't have to share any with me.

My mom and I ordered the Brownie Sundae.

12.jpg

Not realizing there was popcorn on top of the ice cream. Another snack item I dislike. I was kind of striking out with the desserts at 50's.

But that just went to show me I could skip that course on future trips.

Everything's a learning experience.

Now, while all of us were eating our respective desserts, not really talking, just content to be full and inside a Disney park, one of the servers in the room behind me shouted something really loudly and a bunch of people began laughing.

Well, naturally, when you hear that sort of commotion you cast a glance towards the source.

Everyone did.

I did one of those, Huh, what in world. That server is really- uh- flamboyant.

As I was looking back, I noticed there were a lot of people at one table. Like 10 or so.

And then, my mind began piecing different items together like a puzzle.

I noticed a toddler with the cutest blonde curls sitting next to a woman who was actually looking back at me.
Then I saw a guy sitting at the end of the table next to the wall in a baseball cap.

He looked familiar, but I couldn't place him. Then I saw a Cast Member with the tour guide uniform sitting at the other end of the table. He didn't have any food, he was just keeping the group company.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Personal tour guide, adorable child, vaguely familiar face...

And then it clicked.

HOLY COW!

That guy in the hat was Neil Patrick Harris!!!

:cheer2:

I very calmly turned back towards my table, and whispered to my mom and Alex, "I think NPH is sitting behind us."

:rolleyes1

Alex's eyes bugged out. "What?!"

He tried to see but there was a wall blocking his view.

My mom peeked a glance, rejoined us, and confirmed, "I think you're right."

Ahhhhhhh.

"I recognize the nanny. I've seen her in tabloids."

"I wanna see! I wanna see!" Alex stood up. He motioned me to move to his spot, on the pretense of feeding Landon, so that he could catch a glimpse.

"Oh my gosh, it is! That's David Burtka sitting across from him."

I won't lie, Alex and I spent the next five minutes silently and subduely freaking out. We didn't draw attention to ourselves or anything, it was more a slew of hushed, "Oh my gosh!" "Is this seriously happening?!" "We have the best luck!" "Ahhhhh!"

This was actually our second celebrity sighting at Walt Disney World. Back in 2010, I practically walked right into Trace Atkins at the RNRC dump shop. Apparently, Alex and I have good luck when it comes to Disney and seeing famous people.

"I wanna see him again, quick Mom, switch places with me," I hissed.

The most awkward part of that whole sighting was that EVERY TIME I looked over, the nanny was staring at me, stone faced. I think she knew I'd made her employers and was trying to silently warn me off.

She had nothing to fear, though. As amazing as it would have been to actually say hello (Alex joked that we could walk up and say, "Hi, I'm a big fan, can I get a picture. Thanks, David!" who played a guest role in HIMYM-Scooter.) we had no intention of doing that.

He was sharing a meal with his family, his loved one, his two kids, it would have been rude to interrupt them and take away from their time together. They were obviously enjoying the Disney magic and didn't need to be bothered.

I just wish I could have conveyed that to the nanny and her death ray stare!

If looks could kill, I'm telling you.

:lmao:

That being said, we did try and get an inconspicuous picture.

My mom couldn't get the shot:

13.jpg

Just boring old Alex and Alicia.
(They were hidden behind the elderly people, who'd just been seated.)

Alex tried with his phone and actually did get NPH in the background.

14.jpg

He immediately posted it to Facebook with the title, "NPH is the guy with the hat on in the background!"

It was all pretty exciting stuff, and it completely topped off what was already a wonderful meal. Even if we hadn't seen Barney Stinson, I think that was one of my favorite lunches. Not in regards to food, although it was delicious, just based on how relaxed I felt, and how happy I was.

None of were tired from riding attractions or walking long distances, we all felt good and were still relieved we had another 3 full days left ahead of us.

We all left 50's and went in search of our stroller and some more Photopass Pictures. I had to redeem the ones from the evening before!

15.jpg

16.jpg

With absolutely nothing left to do in Hollywood Studios, I ushered us out of the parks and back to Pop for a few hours. I was desperately hoping Alex and I could get some extra sleep that afternoon. Landon was killing us with his nighttime waking, and I wasn't sure I could survive the evening without some rest.

All in all, though, it was a nice morning, and it was so different from our normal routine, that it was enjoyable. An easygoing start to park touring, a delicious lunch, and a celebrity sighting. Couldn't ask for much more than that!

(Little did we know, too, that one of us would have yet another pseudo run-in with NPH's clan later on.)

Can you imagine being the CM that entertain NPH and his family? Nothing like a little pressure.

So, to the nanny with the big 'ol death stare - you can't help that the CM drew all kinds of attention to his table. Blame it on him.

Seriously though - very cool celebrity sighting. I would have tried to get a picture too. What a test of my paparazzi skills. :rotfl2:

Your food looks yummy. I haven't eaten there in a long time. Perhaps its time to go back.

I hope you guys get some rest!

Wow I do not remember those grey skies at all.

Oh I would totally live in that apartment Alicia. Well, I would totally sleep in that apartment. As soon as I could, I'd be out and about. Guaranteed.

Haha, the sweet tea story made me laugh. It seems that every time I ordered a tea in Florida I was asked, sweet or hot? I had no idea how to answer because at home, asking for tea just means hot tea. Colour me confused, lol.

OK wow, that is pretty cool seeing NPH just chilling and having lunch. Sadly I probably would have gone over just because. But I also would have felt guilty too. He does come across as the type that would be cool though.

First off, that fried chicken and smores look amazing!! I have to go here one of these trips!! I am with your mama on sweet tea, with us being from South Carolina- we love us some sweet tea!!

Glad you had a good experience with your waitress! I always love the wait staff that remembers to push plates, cups, etc out of the arms reach of small children.... It's the little things!

That is awesome about NPH... Didn't he do the candlelight processional one year? Was it this past year when you were there?

I guess celebs would enjoy going to Disney with their families! If I was loaded like that, I would be going once a month!!
