Why is TSMM queue boring?

As a WDW vet, I was amazed how Boring with a capital B the queue was at DL. At DHS the line is so creative and fun, so it isn't really a problem to have a long wait. And Mr Potato Head is wonderful. I cannot understand WHY they put him out in front of the ride. You cannot hear him at all when standing in line. The ride is the same good fun, but I can see why it is do much more popular in Florida.

Mr. Potato Head is on the outside because he is suppose to represent a carnival barker and is suppose to draw you in to play the games just as if you were walking down a real midway at a fair which that area is suppose to represent...in DHS the queue line is suppose to be Andy's room and your a toy so it makes sense that he is inside because if he was outside he'd just be a toy (too many humans walking around)...at least this is the explanation I remember reading when the two rides debuted...more likely they didn't want PH outside in the FL elements with the rain, lighting, and heat all summer (I can't speak to the DCA queue line's boring-ness...we decided to skip it on our trip since we go to DHS often..we just wanted to see PH outside)

I have always thought this too! I was surprised when I saw pictures online of the the queue in WDW! That looks so cute! To me TSMM is the most boring line in all of DLR! And I too have complained how you pass up Mr. Potatohead so soon and he is the only interesting thing there. You only get about 30 seconds to see him, if that. I think they could have done something more interesting in that building they make you go in and out of.

It's more popular in Florida because DHS only has a handful of rides. At DCA the crowds are distributed among many more attractions.

I totally agree. Since it is usually has a long wait time it would be nice if they had some interactive things or something a bit more interesting along the way.

I've never been to the one at DHS but at DL our family thought this was the worst line of all the rides at DL/DCA. Long and boring. The ride itself we liked though.

there's no line worse than Nemo.

Yeah, it's a bit boring especially if the line is long.

Exactly what sheetz said, it's that it's more popular in Florida. DHS barely has any rides when compared to DCA. The queue has nothing to do with it, not to mention many of the Disneyland Resort attractions and rides don't have interactive or special qeues. That's more common in Florida, where the lines are longer.

I'd stand in the boring DL TSMM line for 40 minutes any day over 120 minutes in the oh-so exciting line at DHS. Just sayin'.

And I agree that Nemo is bad, but I think that Peter Pan is the absolute worst, especially when it's hot outside. Very narrow and a good part of it is in direct sunlight. Yuck.

...and the weather is much, much, much more horrid in Florida. I'd take even Nemo's line (and a ride on Screaming Nemo's Slightly Underwater Video Watch) over any in Florida during most of the year.

I just came back from Japan and my friend had a similar complaint. The queue in Disneysea combines the DCA and DHS queues. The Andy's room portion of the queue is awesome but they also have some fun boardwalk game additions outside

My guess is that the DL queue is bad because the ride was built into a small space not originally designed for an attraction. That's why most of it is outdoor.

I don't remember the DHS queue at all, but I think that's because we used fastpass.

This is one of our favorite rides. What I wouldn't do for a fast pass for this ride. :)

They seem to be doing new ride queues (Ariel's) or redoing queues (HM, Dumbo) at WDW to be much more interactive and nice that DL/DCA. Perhaps the lines are longer there overall?

I think the Ariel's queue at DCA is boring - and that was even before I saw the amazing version of it at WDW (online video).

True, but that ride is mostly a walk on, even in the middle of a hot summer day. So I don't care how boring that line is. ;)

The best line at DLR is IJ. Wish they would do more like that!

That was my first thought too!

Plus, I generally always FP the ride at DHS so rarely see the queue.

In general WDW has more space and hotter, more humid and more rainy weather. Thus they tend to build more queues inside to get people out of the weather and into the air conditioning and shelter.

DLR tends to have better weather, less rain and less space. Hence many of the queues are built outside or kind of outside like the TSMM queue.

As long as it is not too hot or one is standing in the sun, I prefer outside queues like at DLR. But this does not lend itself to the interactive queue design that WDW is moving towards. The interactive queues and general queue entertainment (such as HM at MK) are a really cool idea and it does make the experience feel more magical.

Both approaches have advantages and disadvantages...

I'll wait 40 minutes at DCA vs 20 minutes at DHS. I cannot stand the queue at DHS. Sound just bounces around that room so badly and it's so loud that i can't hear my family. I'm all but deaf for the time we are in the line because it all just becomes white noise to me.

I don't like decorations for the sake of decorations. It's too tempting for little kids, and turns a line into a constant battle of parents vs climbing children, LOL. It's like my old annoyance at the decorations at the Neverland Pool....don't put big tempting pirate ships out there, then put "do not climb" signs...runs the fun for the littles! Same for giant tinker toys.

I actually quite like the physical space of the queues at Nemo (though I rarely ride...talk about a loud ride!) and TDMM, I think they are brilliant at how they create infinite ways to create a longer line in the same space.

I and the interactive line at Pooh at MK? UGH. Causes frantic children trying to play, quickly, before their parents have moved further in the line. Running from one spot to the other, etc. and that dripping honey wall...it's one of the spots that causes a hidden germaphobe to come out, and you can't finish clearing the he off before you've moved on, unless it's a drastically long line and who WANTS that?

Obviously I am pro boring and anti what some consider fun, when it comes to lines. :dance3:

When we went on TSMM at CA over the summer during a heatwave, that room they snake your through was sooo hot. And it is loud in there. The situation would be best remedied if they turned half of that room into a FP distribution area.
