Why is this lion king movie being called a live action remake?

It's basically the equivalent of Disney's Dinosaur, which the company is considerers an animated movie. To me, it's just a CGI remake which I thought no fan would want.

I've been wondering this myself. Photorealistic cgi isn't live action.

I think it's being called a live action remake because it's a shot by shot, exact copy of the original movie just "live action". More CGI.

Are they including the songs? I know The Jungle Book did so only minimally.

Also, I believe, that like Jungle Book, which only one human character, a lot of the backgrounds have been filmed on location, so it's not 100% animated.

Some people don’t know they are still drawings. The term animation is a bad word to them or triggers babyish.
