Why is there Always room at SSR?

Don't get me wrong, I am happy that I can get a weeks stay in the same room, anywhere, Disney last minute (2 months out), but why does it seem there is always something available at SSR.
Anyone care to share the up/downs of staying there?
We own at BWV and have also stayed at OKW, AKV (Jambo and Kidani), HHI, and BC.
The only time I have set foot on SSR property was to eat at Turf Club, once several years ago--quite good btw.
The March trip, we will be driving from Toronto area, so will have a car, and there will be DH, DS (18), DD(16), and myself.

I am looking at the SSR lovers thread too, but input, both good and bad, would be appreciated.

SSR is the largest DVC resort.

Our favorite resort is BCV for the pool and proximity to Epcot.
Our second varies between SSR and AKL.

I love the atmosphere of SSR. It's proximity to DTD is wonderful. It's a great resort for joggers. I think next to BCV, it has the nicest pools.

Downsides- you must take a bus to all of the parks and there are multiple bus stops. I also am not a fan of the exterior hallways, but it's really no big deal.

SSR is very large, but beautiful and relaxing. The buildings are well maintained and the staff very friendly. We always enjoy our stays there.

At really busy times, even SSR is full. We found that out when we tried to plan a Christmas visit at only 3 weeks out.

We did end up staying at SSR, and I will say that we really enjoyed it. We were in a 2 bedroom villa, and the decor was tasteful and beautiful. The villa was very spacious and in great shape. The grounds were well taken care of and they did a great job with the Christmas decorations. We used the new walk way to Downtown Disney and it was so convenient.

We had excellent bus service and we were there at a very busy time. All in all, we would stay there again, even when it wasn't our only choice!!

It is huge.

Many people also buy resale there for "cheap points" with the intent on trading out. Therefore I think it gets the most breakage, probably more than Disney can even rent out at times.

Stayed there this summer and it was nice for the times we went to DTD. We were there for 2 weeks, so had already spent time in the parks, and by the time we got to SSR, it was more down time.

But, we enjoyed the resort, the pool, etc. and on the last day, the only day we attempted to hit a park, the buses came to our stop (Grandstand) pretty quickly. The ride was easy and felt it worked out well.

What I like is that the TIW works for the CS meals there...while not a lot, it was nice to get a little extra savings!

The points are sold out, so if the people who bought there did so because they love to go there, it would be full. SSR was the first resort to be sold with a later contract date, so people initially bought it for the length of contract. (I did) I enjoyed SSR when Pleasure Island was open.... the only reason I stayed there. I don't care for the outside hallways (Key west also) (same reason why OKW is the second last to book) Once the resorts opened with walking access to the parks, these two fell to the wayside. Hence the low point costs on resale. Undesirable.

There is probably some truth to this, I've stayed at SSR 2x, BWV 2x, and AKL 2x, with my first stay at BLT next month ...so they may all be undesirable, who knows. As far as low points go, I'm glad you mentioned it because I probably would have never looked into it otherwise -looks like my points at SSR are selling above where I bought them which is find with me. But I probably won't do anything with them until Disney Springs is complete.

Supply and demand.

As people said, its huge.

But it also doesn't have any big draw. It isn't on the monorail or out the back door of Epcot. There aren't animals out your balcony (although VAKL usually has availability late as well - in part because it is also huge). Its a good deal points wise, but OKW is a better deal with bigger rooms.

When the seven month window opens and you have the choice of anything with availability, SSR will be the first choice of fewer DVC members than any other on-site resort.

The largest factor is simple demand comparative to the other resorts on property. Size is a factor but a smaller component.

I think SSR gets an unwarranted reputation as the being the dog of DVC resorts. In reality it has gorgeous grounds, wonderful pools, a beautiful golf course, great view and proximity to DTD, beautiful rooms, and the tree house villas. It is one of my first choices to stay at.

I don't think it is a dog, it's SSR.

Each resort has something different to offer and SSR's offerings aren't as popular as some of the other resorts.

All of that's true but that's not the point. It simply has a lower demand and is larger. And it's also the largest single negative when trying to book resorts at the 7 month window. The reasons are fairly straight forward, it's location and it's points table that's a fair amount higher than OKW. That a given person may prefer it to all others resorts is somewhat irrelevant, it's the collective preference that determines demand.

Lack of demand also leads to even less demand.
Some pro sports teams experienced better overall attendance after moving to smaller stadiums. When the team was in a big stadium, tickets were always available, people often thought, "I can go the following game"

In a newer, smaller stadium, tickets sold out for some games, which results in more fans advance planning, and buying more tickets in advance, which results in more fans attending each game.
