Why is the produce section always in front?

If I were going to set up a grocery store, I'd put the produce near the end of the store. The bananas and apples get all smushed up when it's the first thing. All I do is stop and rearrange those darned fruits and vegetables the whole way through the store.

Maybe I should start by going backward. At least then the kitty litter would be in the cart first and the bananas would be on top.

Anything about your supermarket that annoys you?

Yep....I think if a store sells nuts, they should sell nutcrackers.

Our grocery store has the deli in the beginning, the dairy section on the far end, the meats in the very back and the frozen section IN THE MIDDLE!!

I end up going through every aisle to get the packaged stuff (what little of it I buy), then I go all around the perimeter to get the cold stuff (dairy, meats, deli), and then it's back to the middle for the frozen stuff!!

There is a science to a markets layout.

Staples such as milk and bread are usually farthest away from the front door.

This way you need to walk through the store to get to them and hopefully IMPULSE BUY.;)

Yes the SuperWalmart I stop at is like this also...of course it is one stop shopping. We start on the side with all the HBA and pet stuff, and work are way back to the dairy and then head toward the front and frozen foods.

I hate the grocers that have baggers that always put the cases of pop, beer, dog food, cat food, and the laundry detergent in the cart first. Why cant they put it back on the bottom rack of the cart so when I unload it all into my vehicle I'm not digging through all my bags to get to the heavy stuff.

As for the milk being in the back of the store one grocery, Scott's, does have a separate small cooler in the front of the store by the registers that only has milk in it.

I'm convinced it is so that you have to go back to find whatever fresh item goes with the meat that is on sale that you hadn't planned to buy. Example, the roasts are ridiculously cheap, so you've got to go back to get all the accoutrements that go with your perfect pot roast. This way, they get you to walk back by all those other displays and buy more stuff!

Not that it matters, but I can't shop when I'm full

It is carefully laid out to make people buy more. I walk my empty cart to the back of the store and work my way forward. I don't usually take so long that I have to worry about my milk, eggs, and cheese getting warm. Bread, frozen food, and produce are all near the front, so it works out well.
