Why is the last week in April so busy?

We planned on going to Disney the last week of April. I checked the "unofficial" guide for when it would be the slowest in April and it said the last week. We just tried to get rooms at either the BC or the YC and they are all booked up. I saw someone elses thread which was a poll on when everyone was going in April and it seems everyone is going the last week. Would the "unofficial" guide be that off?
Also is there a better week in April? We have never been in April and want to avoid crowds as much as possible.
Thank you!!!!

NYC public schools, some Long Island and few other northeast school systems have spring break that week.

My son and I are heading for the airport as soon as he gets out of school on April 22. :cool1: :moped: :cheer2:

NJ systems are on Spring Break. I was originally going that week but changed my mind and going the second week of may.

Spring being so early this year, with the various Spring Breaks, these are affecting this last week of April. Usually, the schools are in full force except for Easter Break, but many schools are having this break late in the Spring. ( We have a mini-break that last week of April.....)

Also, People trying to avoid the Easter Crowds, and the big Celebration Kick-off that starts May 5th have probably planned to visit WDW during that week. Also, Grad Nites, etc....

Same thing is happening for the 1st wk in Dec....typically billed as a very slow period (UG) there are a TON of people from the DIS boards heading to Disney that week. But really, we are a very small % of the population that visits Disney. I also think this group as a whole tends to frequent more of the Deluxe resorts so that may be why the hotel was booked. JMHO.

I always plan my trips for April...I love the weather that month and as long as I plan for AT LEAST one week after Easter, the crowds are very manageable.

I just checked expedia and it looks like BC and YC are mainly sold out, but most other resorts are wide open. BC & YC are convention resorts so there might be a business thing going on.BW is open as well as the dolphin and swan if you are looking for the Epcot area.

i believe the last week of april is also Passover...

That is correct.

I just think that the "perfect" times to visit WDW are diminishing. I even noticed that September- once billed as slow/value season, has been busier and busier as the years go on. Of course, busy to DH and I is waiting in a 5 minute line for Pooh! ;)

Now I just hope that EMH plays out well for us since it is our first April trip.

I know school's around here are on break, in fact, my SIL's going down the last week in April with her family :) We're going May 1- May 7...I can't wait! :)

Also a lot of people are starting their trips that week and going into May for the Celebration. This is a big event.

Congratulations areno79. My DW and I are going to be there May 1st to the 7th also, celebrating our 1st anniversary/honeymoon. I can't wait either being its her first time there.

We have gone the last week of April every year since 1997, and, at least up to this year, the crowds have been very manageable.

Perhaps it is just the BC/YC. Sometimes the YC books up with conventions.
