Our family has always stayed in the All star resorts and have enjoyed the theming etc and the PRICE:thumbsup2 We are not the type of family that spends much time actually at the resort, we get up early and head to the parks and H20 parks and may only swim at the resort once or twice in a weeks stay. But now that our family has OUTGROWN the value's we are forced to stay at POR.:confused3 It just doesnt excite us:sad2: Are we wrong in feeling this way?

no, don't feel bad for feeling that way. we're all creatures of habit! your probably just soo used to staying at the Value resorts that its just what you have become comfortable with. you know the ins and outs, and exactly what to expect. your excitment will come in due time. go search out pics of POR and that should begin to whet your appetite. and like you said, you don't spend that much time at the resort anyways, so you should be able to work off the excitment of the parks alone :thumbsup2

If you don't want to stay there, why are you? :confused3 Who is forcing you to stay at POR? You've outgrown them, as in your ages, or as in the size of your party? The size difference in the rooms is not all that great, if that is the reason, why not get a family suite at a value? If it's the age thing, DH and I spent our belated honeymoon at AS sports, just the 2 of us and had a good time.

No it's not about anything other than due to the ages of our children we cannot stay there anymore. And as I said we spend very little time actually at the resort so it is a tough pill to swallow having to pay so much more for a moderate resort when we will not be getting any use out of it! If only the All stars would allow us a roll away!

All Star Music has family suites which may be able to fit your family. I'm not sure how much they are though, it may or may not be cheaper than a moderate.

The POR seems to be a more relaxed resort for a more "mature" crowd. We just like the POP and Allstar theme more I guess. But the suites are sold out and we would have to get 2 rooms. We are paying $1415 for 8 nights at POR, thats alot for a place to sleep.

POR is your cheapest option for a family of 5 and it is a gorgeous resort! We've stayed there twice and we love it!:goodvibes It is very lush and beautiful. I'm sure you will love it!

I don't quite understand this. What about any of the other mods? When we went to POR earlier this month, 90% of the people there were senior citizens. I'm not sure if it's the resort or just the time we went, but I did not feel comfortable there.

I'm not sure I understand either. No one is forcing you. What about a family suite at one of the other values? Why does it have to be POR? What about one of the other mods? Even FQ has a few things that would be more appropriate for kids.

This is how I understand it: you have 3 kids, and the youngest has turned 3?? So now you need accomodations for 5?

POR is your cheapest deal, followed (closely!!) by the Family Suites at All Star Music. If you love the values so much, why not look into them?

POR is the only mod that can accomodate 5 in 1 room. Because of this, there are usually more families there. I don't know too many families of 4 anymore. Seems like more people are having 3 or more kids. I wish Disney would take that into consideration and provide more options for larger families. Having said that, I do think POR is a great resort!

I understand; a stay at the All Stars, etc. means WDW to you. Everyone other than the previous poster that I have talked to has loved POR and they have all been young families. I also understand that you only have certain rooms available to a family of 5: ASM family suites, POR or DVC villas. I have a family of 6 and we can't afford to stay at POR because we would have to get two rooms.
Once you get there you will probably love it. Look at the pictures at www.allearsnet.com; they will probably make you feel better. And don't forget some of the fun things about the resort: pole fishing, paddleboats and crafts for the kids. It may even become your favorite resort.
If I were you, I would look into the Disney Vacation Club; in a few years, as the kids grow bigger, a single room at POR will begin to seem cramped. Our DVC membership will take about 7 years for us to break even (I can't remember - it's been a long time since I worked the numbers); but once it is paid off you begin saving a lot. Our dues this year were around $650 and we can stay in a two bedroom for five nights with that money plus no taxes. And, best of all, two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a washer/dryer makes our trips sooooo much better that being cramped in a single room.

We stayed at POR in 2006 and loved it. I wasn't too excited about staying there when we first booked (family's choice and I didn't want to be the stick in the mud). Once I got there I was floored at how lush and beautiful it was. It was like being worlds away. We saw people of all ages not just mature guests. It was so relaxing to return there after the craziness of the parks :cloud9: . It is a beautiful resort and I am sure once you are there you will enjoy it.

we absolutly loved por! we were in room 2905, literally looking at a quiet pool which was 5 feet from our room door. we did disney a little differently, and spend about half of each day in the room/pool. we did have 2 rooms, and our ages were 6,10,16,24,27, and me at 31. I will never regret it, and we are staying there again for our trip in 2009. For our trip in 2008, I am surprising my sister and mother with a stay at the beach club, they think we are staying at por. If I wasn't going with my sister (she is ill and I want to make this a trip she will always remember as a happy one) we would be staying at por again. old man's island is fantastic!!! We have only been at wdw one time, and por is our home away from home.

It has to be POR because POR is the cheapest mod resort that can sleep 5. The CBR, FQ cannot. The Coronado has suites I believe that will sleep 5 but are much more $. And as I said earlier the All star suites are BOOKED.

POR is beautiful and 2 single girls in their 30's loved it there!(me and my sis). The landscaping is stunning and the boat to DTD is nice. As someone else mentioned, there's fishing and boats and a cute arcade.POFQ is gorgeous too. I've gotten spoiled now, I would find it hard to stay in a value`ever again. Just the noise factor alone and the fact that the Pop warner and cheerleading groups tend to stay there has turned me off. Heck, I'm a little worried because I'll be at the Poly in September and this may turn me into a deluxe snob!

PS..we also don't spend much time at the resort either, although I'm not as commando as I used to be...I actually sleep in most of the trip, and get to the parks around 10:30am.
I think once you get there it'll grow on you-I think some people are underwhelmed at first because the theming is not "in your face" Disney. But, it is so charming and to me, when we'd come back from the parks, it was very welcoming. The pool is also nice(the main one, there are several 'quiet" pools).

When faced with the same options, I took a look at the Contemporary, just for the heck of it. Of course, there is a difference in price!!! BUt wtih the AAA dicsount, it wasn't all THAT much more than POR-- I think it priced out to be uner $400 for our 6 night stay. It does sleep 5 and you're on the monorail-- think of the convenience with small kids.

Take a look and price it out-- it may add an option that you hadn't considered.

POR is beautiful, but you seem to be pretty hung up on the All Stars. If they are that important to you, I would think about changing my dates.

No, your not wrong in not feeling excited about POR, especially since its your only option at this point besides changing your dates. But, give POR a chance. It might become your new favorite! There are tons of kids at POR, especially in the AB section where there are accomodations for 5. The rooms in AB are some of the best themed rooms at WDW. Your kids will love the pool, playground (one of the best at WDW) and the coloring sheets the resort gives away to kids (in the food court by the tv and at the stand near boat & bike rentals).
