Why is Peter Pan so popular?

Peter Pan is actually the first ride we do, at the start of our vacation. I guess it's probably a pretty dorky ride...but I grew up going to Disneyland with my family and I'll never forget the first time we "took flight" with those flying ships. I always associated Peter Pan with vacation. Then when I had my own children, I took them and my excitement boiled over on to them. Now, even my 16year old DS, says that's the first ride we must go on whenever we come to DisneyWorld. If I try to change our touring plans the entire family freaks out:goodvibes

I have never been on the Peter Pan ride and when we were at MK in June it has CRAZY long lines. At midnight on EMH the wait was still over an hour. What is the attraction to this particular ride?
~Wow! I've written about this before, but this was our exact experience. Peter Pan during EMH was one of the longest lines we have EVER waited in, that line was SO long and miserable, I thought we would never ride! But, I love Peter Pan, and there is something truly magical about sailing through the air in a ship. :cloud9: :goodvibes

I am a senior who goes to WDW solo most often. I love this ride because it speaks to the whole Disney experience. As in imagination and belief in " flying" and in "fairies" can transport you to the worlds you most want to inhabit. Derring do and good over coming evil... But most of all as a 65 year old who read the original long book as a child, it takes me back to the world of make believe where everything is possible and the real world can be left behind with a tiny sprinkling of fairy dust.

My Family Loves it, BUT we would NEVER wait more than 20 minutes to ride.

We were just there July 16th, the regular line was 70 minutes when we showed up .. we walked up to the FP booth at 1130am, grabbed FPs for 240pm, when we returned we waited exactly 10 minutes to ride.

As I weaved my way through an empty FP line I looked at all the poor schmucks standing in the regular line and felt sorry for them, while the ride is a good one ... it's definitely not worth enduring a 70 minute line to ride!!

Me (54) and my DW (55) always ride PP when we visit. We always get a FP and plan around that time. It is a classic, and for me, I enjoy the level of detail. I am always finding new things I never saw before, and that's half the fun on riding PP again and again. The other half - flying!!

We stood in line for Peter Pan for 50 min. I asked a CM why the wait was so long and he said almost everyone who comes thru MK rides Peter Pan because it's a classic. Standby is also very slow because for every 30 people with a FP they only take 10 out of standby!

It's one of my favorite rides at WDW. I don't feel like I've arrived at WDW until I ride PP, POTC, and IASW. They are classic Disney rides

Peter Pan has a lot of likable characters, good and bad! Love the ride but that line que is the worst....winding your way down along the building and back and down and back... yeesch :headache:
It's murder if you try to do it mid afternoon :faint:

What everyone else said, plus they give every rider something special at the end...

Peter Pan is Disney magic at its best. There is nothing quite like flying over London for the first time. That view looking down is truly something special.

The first time I went to WDW, I didn't really get what it was all about. I expected another Six Flags and didn't understand why we need to go all the way to FL. Not to mention I don't like amusement park rides. I read Birnbaum's and the Unofficial Guide, but being before the days of internet I still didn't quite get it.

riding the PP ride was when I "got it".

I love the movie Peter Pan and I love this ride! It's a classic! A fast pass is a must! I can ride it over and over again!

Peter Pan is one right that just never appealed to me but judging from the constant long lines, I am in the minority :rolleyes1

It's just so unique, so different than the other rides in Fantasyland... plus, it loads real slow.

That is one of my father's favorite rides. He never went to WDW until he was in college and actually never rode the ride until I was in middle school. It had always been his experience that the line was outrageously long, Peter Pan was not his favorite movie, and it was just some kiddie ride. He just didn't care to ride it. Then, one night, the wait was down to only 20 minutes due to it being Extra Magic Hours (many years ago when they first started having EMHs) and he, along with my mom, sister, and me, decided to go on it. He was hooked. He loved the feeling like he was flying. He loved how simple it was, yet that it stirred feelings of such excitement in him. Now, as we prepare to take my DD2 on her first ever WDW vacation, he has already claimed Peter Pan's Flight as the ride he wants to get to ride with her on.:goodvibes

For the record, DH has claimed Barnstormer, I think my sister will take her on Dumbo, and the entire family is going to ride with her on It's A Small World for her very first WDW ride.

Thats it right there - its a ride that spans across generations :)

That makes me feel all fuzzy to hear your Dad is now taking his grand-daughter .... and in years to come it will be the ride she has to ride with her kids because of the memories she has with grandpa.

This is what makes Disney special .... not the EMHs, not the napkins, not the soap that used to be in a box rather than wrapped in plastic .... the feelings it stirs within us and the memories it creates :goodvibes
