Why is only The Magic Kingdom Dry?

Doc, your a bad as I am with Walt trivia.!
~LOL! I don't know what's going on! :rotfl:

You are correct that was his last appearance at DL. He love wondering the place, especially at night.

That is how the light in the firehouse window started.....it was kind of a signal. When ever Walt was in the park at night, the light in the window was turned on (It is my understanding this was with his approval).

One story was he was walking down Main street and noticed the iron horse tie ups were looking shabby. He got hold of the painting foreman (there is painting going on 24 hours a day at all the parks) and told him he wanted them all redone. The foreman said he would have it put next on the list.
Well Walt was not happy about that......told him to call in anyone he needed.............NOW, and have the old paint scrapped off and repainted.*THAT NIGHT*.:wizard:
~Wow, that's a fascinating story. This reminds me of "The Disney Way." :( ~There's no need for boxes and scrims, when you keep up on maintenance every day! :goodvibes

Another fun story was before his face became to well known, he would wander the parks and go on the attractions. One CM reported that a lady and her son were next to go on the natures wonderland train, and she pleased the CM if Mr. Disney is ever in the park???...........seems before the CM could as anything.the man standing behind her, commented in that now well known voice, that he got there when ever he could........:wizard:.

He was very protective of his attraction as well..a story still told is about a CM boat driver in the jungle cruise. Walt was sitting in stern and was not happy with the fast..rushing though ride he got. He got out of the boat and called the lad over to the side..........told the lCM he put a lot of money and time into giving the folks a fun adventure and not to...DON'T RUSH THOUGH IT.

We came back a hour later and was very happy of the ride he had with the CM.

Legend is that a month or so later he returned and the CM was back to the rush though........it was the CM's last day at DL as a CM.

~Thanks for sharing these stories, Tonka! I've haven't been on the Jungle Cruise yet, but after reading this story, I'll be watching the speed of the boat! :goodvibes

Anyone know why DL does allow drinking in Club 33 but not in the park proper? Do you not have to go through the park to get to Club 33? To me, it just sounds a bit odd to be so adamant that a park be dry but to have the special members-only-expensive-exclusive club where you can drink.

Club 33 is not open to the public. It is a private club. They're not allowed to take the drinks out of the club, either.

Both Disneyland and WDW's MK sometimes have private events in the park where alcohol is served - sometimes while the park is still open, I've attended one event like that.

Its not odd at all really,if you know the history.........it was set up by Walt as just as Nala said a private club for his friends and business associates. It is very expensive and the waiting list is years long.It is really a lot more like a 5 star restaurant then a club or bar.

If you do a little searching, you will likely find photos and video of the inside.

The drinks stay in the club,so it blends with the park dry policy which helps keep the family atmosphere. :thumbsup2

I keep wondering if Gaston's Tavern will be dry?

I assume it'll be dry since MK always has been, but why create a place called a tavern ("a place where liquors are sold to be consumed on the premises") if wanting to stay dry?

Yes, it will be dry. Just like Liberty Treee Tavern and Tortuga Tavern in the MK.

Good question. I would make an exit right from FL and build it there. It would not have access from outside but it would give you a chance to have a drink.

There's some rumors that Gaston's will have a specialty beverage (nonalcoholic) somewhat like Universal's Wizarding World has butterbeer.

Folks when a poster(s) takes the thread south please do not encourage them.
Report the post and poster and we can hopefully deal with the problem and keep threads open :thumbsup2

I grew up going to Disneyland. It was always kind of a joke about the park being dry. All you ever had to do was to hop on the Monorail and get off at the hotel with the bar. Very quick and easy. For the record, I have seen more drunk people in Disneyland than in Disney World. Mostly young people on what seemed to be dates. For my part, I would be just as happy if all the parks were dry.

I like the fact that magic kingdom is a dry park, because Walt wanted to create a family atmosphere. Magic Kingdom is the essence of childhood, and you don't need alcohol to have a blast there (especially when there's dole whip). It keeps magic kingdom special!
